my pops loved some mary wilson..i was raised on her...2021 so far is ahead of schedule according to 2020..the grim reaper done called in helpers to help snatch souls..

The bitterness was mostly on Mary's side, no doubt as a result of jealousy over Diana's dominant role in the group and her success as a solo act.
Mary's bitterness ran deep, even to the point she would always refer to Diana as Diane (her real name). It has been speculated that Mary felt she was the prettiest member of the Supremes and should have been out front more. She may have been but she didn't have the singing chops to pull that off as evidenced by her flop at a solo career.
Mary just couldn't accept she was little more than a backup singer, a pretty one to be sure, but a backup singer nevertheless. Personally imo neither of them could a candle to Flo Ballard in the singing department. I'll admit my judgment may be influenced by the fact that Flo hung with the brothers sexually while Mary and Diana chose to dip frequently on the "other" side. All that said she had a great life and I'm sorry to hear of her passing.
The only thing in here that's correct is that Flo had the strongest voice. Mary could sing Diane under the table - most women could. And most everybody called her Diane that knew her from the beginning. Especially Martha Reeves and Wanda Young. When Ross started that "Miss Ross" bullshit everybody doubled down on calling her Diane because they knew she hated it.
Flo had the best voice of the three, Diana's real name was Diane, and both both she and Mary frequently slept with white guys; that's three things that are correct not only one as you say. My intention was not to cast aspersions on Mary Wilson but for you to say she could sing Diana Ross under the table is a stretch because if that were true she would have had much more success as a single artist. Further, as stated in Mary's book "Dreamgirl :My Life as a Supreme" the name Diana and the moniker Miss Ross came about as a result of Barry Gordy's insistence for commercial promotional reasons, not because Diana's dislike of the name Diane or because she was on some ego trip. Lastly, let's just celebrate her as a talented beautiful singer and mourn her passing.

You're wrong again. But I'm not going to belabor the point. That book you referenced is Mary's vent and not unbiased. I've read numerous books on the whole Motown story plus talked with people who were there. Mary's career didn't really take off because Diane torpedoed it. Everybody knows that. Except you, it seems. Plus she didn't have the Motown machine behind her. Same with Flo. Her lp contains really insipid songs and she wasn't in the best of voice but you could hear she was still a hundred times better than Ross.
Ross was the absolute worst female singer in Motown's stable. The. Worst. Even the white girl, Chris Clark, was better. The main thing Ross had going for her was Berry Gordy was in love with her.
I think it can be argued that Diana Ross didn't have the greatest voice, but what she had is a voice that was unique that listeners liked.
I read that folks at Motown didn't see her as a great vocalist, but once the songs were released she just took off. In music you never know for sure what is going to sell. Ol girl just had that something.
