Two 'bungling' drug dealers jailed for 12 years after leaving bag of drugs on train then reporting it missing

https%3A%2F%2Fcontentstore.nationalworld.com%2Fimages%2F78217174-71af-452f-a9e2-0617f33e885d.png

The court heard how McCourt-Knight and other members of the organised crime group had used the ‘Encro-Chat’ app to discuss the sourcing, supply and receipt of drugs from Portugal. McCourt-Knight’s costly mistake led to the unravelling of the entire drugs line with Harley Hall being identified through messages on the phone as another big player in the drugs enterprise.

Texts revealed Hall and McCourt-Knight had secured what he promised to be a higher grade of cocaine which he was selling onto other members of the group to pass onto street dealers. But the deal went wrong and the pair fell out when customers complained that the cocaine was not up to standard due to the amount of cutting agent used to bulk it out.

Monsignor Jamie Gigantiello, pastor of the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Williamsburg, has been removed from key duties after an investigation found he spent the church’s money on himself and doled out nearly $2 million in unauthorized loans to entities owned by Frank Carone, an influential advisor to Mayor Adams, the Diocese of Brooklyn said Monday.
The investigation, which was initiated after Gigantiello allowed pop star Sabrina Carpenter to film a music video at the church, found that loans totaling $1.9 million went to Carone’s law firm as well as two other companies affiliated with the former Adams chief of staff.
“I have also relieved Monsignor Jamie Gigantiello, the current pastor, of any pastoral oversight or governance role at the Parish because he has mishandled substantial church funds and interfered with the administration of the Parish after being directed not to do so,” Bishop Robert Brennan said in a statement.
Federal authorities subpoenaed the church in September over possible dealings with Carone. No one has been charged in connection with that probe.
An internal investigation found that Gigantiello issued a million-dollar loan to Carone’s law firm, Abrams Fensterman LLP in January 2019 without the required approval or notification to the Diocese. It was repaid with 9% interest between June 2020 and June 2021, according to the release.
In August 2021 and November 2021, Gigantiello dug into the Parish coffers to make two more loans totaling $900,000 to two companies also affiliated with Carone: Cesco LLC and Lex Ave 660 Partners LLC. These transfers were also made without approval and without notifying the Diocese.
Gigantiello also used the church credit card for substantial personal expenses, the release said.
Gigantiello has served as lead pastor since 2017.
The internal review, conducted by firm Alvarez & Marsal and Sullivan & Cromwell, came after the pastor allowed singer Sabrina Carpenter to film a music video inside the church.
Carone, Adams’ first chief of staff, is now running a lobbying firm and is expected to chair the mayor’s 2025 reelection campaign.

Neither Carone nor Gigantiello — who are longtime friends — have been accused of any wrongdoing by the Brooklyn U.S. Attorney’s office.
Carone and Gigantiello are partners in a corporate entity called DMC Capital Group. Gigantiello holds a 7.5% stake and Carone’s family trust, which he controls, holds a 24.67% stake, business records show.
DMC Capital Group is an investor in and co-founded another corporate entity called Financial Vision Group IV, records show. Financial Vision was sued by GEICO in Brooklyn Federal Court last year in a civil suit alleging Financial Vision helped fund a scheme where doctors billed the insurance company for $3.5 million in no-fault medical procedures that either didn’t happen or weren’t necessary.
Bishop Witold Mroziewski, is now administrator of the Parish, according to the release.
The Parish’s temporary administrator, Deacon Dean Dobbins has also been relieved of duties after using “racist and other offensive language during private conversations” that were secretly recorded by Gigantiello, according to Brennan.

A Russian ballet dancer who was an outspoken critic of Russia’s war in Ukraine has mysteriously plunged to his death from the fifth floor of a building.
Vladimir Shklyarov, a married father of two, plummeted around 60 feet to the ground from a building on Saturday, a spokesperson for the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg, where the 39-year-old was the highest-ranking dancer, told Fontanka.
Russian authorities initially labeled the fall an accident, blaming the painkillers he was taking before a complex spinal surgery.

However, he joins numerous other critics of Russian President Vladimir Putin who have met untimely ends — including others who have fallen from buildings.
The dancer had lashed out on Facebook in 2022 despite the Kremlin’s crackdown on such criticism.
“Friends! I am against the war in Ukraine! I am for the people, for a peaceful sky above our heads,” wrote the dad, who was married to fellow ballet dancer Maria Shirinkina.

“Politicians should be able to negotiate without shooting and killing civilians, for this they were given a tongue and a head.”
“My grandfather, Anatoly Filimonovich, graduated from school in Ukraine with a gold medal, my great-grandmother Sonya lived her whole life in Kyiv,” he continued.
“It is impossible to watch everything that is happening today without tears. I want to dance…I want to love everyone – that is the purpose of my life…I do not want wars or borders,” he wrote.

In the past year, a member of Putin’s United Russia party mysteriously fell to his death from a third-floor window while the deputy editor of Putin’s favorite newspaper was unexpectedly found dead at 35 inside her apartment.
Two other notable Putin allies, Lukoil tycoon Ravil Maganov and Marina Yankina, also suspiciously fell to their deaths in recent years, though both were said to be suffering from heart problems.
Earlier this year, a journalist who took aim at Russian officials and promised to release details of “gigantic corruption” was also found dead on the side of the road.

An official cause of death for Shklyarov has not been shared.

Shklyarov was married to Maria Shirinkina, a fellow dancer at the Mariinsky Theater, and they had two young children.
Shklyarov’s career spanned over 20 years at the theater, where he first started in 2003 after graduating from the Academy of Russian Ballet. He rose to the role of principal dancer in 2011, and later was named an Honored Artist of Russia in 2020, the theater said.

The dancer starred in classical ballets including “Giselle,” “Le Corsaire,” “Sleeping Beauty,” “Swan Lake,” “The Nutcracker” and “Don Quixote,” among many others.
The American Ballet Theater mourned him as “an extraordinary artist whose grace and passion inspired audiences worldwide.
“Vladimir danced with American Ballet Theatre as a guest artist in 2014 and 2015, leaving an indelible mark on our stage and in our hearts,” the dancers said on Instagram. “Rest in peace, Vladimir. Your light will continue to shine through the beauty you brought to this world.”
