OXFORD, Mich. – A suspected shooter at Oxford High School has been taken into custody after at least one student was shot and at least four people were injured on Tuesday, authorities said.

No fatalities have been reported, according to police.



The shooting happened around 12:55 p.m. Tuesday (Nov. 30) in the section of the school where many history classes take place, Local 4 has learned.

Police said they responded to the active shooting situation with multiple patrol and EMS units, along with SWAT and aviation units.

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that one suspected shooter is in custody, and officials recovered a handgun, they said.

A shooter with a handgun at Oxford High School sent the township in a panic Tuesday, as law enforcement surrounded the school, helicopters swirled and worried parents took to social media to find out what was going on.


By early afternoon, the Oakland County Sheriff's Department said it had taken a suspect —and a handgun — into custody just before 1 p.m., and there were "multiple victims," between four and six, but no fatalities.
One media report said at least one student was shot, possibly in the face. The student's medical condition was not released.
"At this time, it is still an active scene," Oakland County Undersheriff Mike McCabe said in a brief statement on Twitter. "We have multiple patrol units and multiple EMS units on the scene along with SWAT and the aviation unit."

The motive for the shooting was unclear.
However, the sheriff's office dispatchers said, 911 calls were still coming in, as sirens from squad cars and other emergency vehicles blared and students were told to meet up at the Meijer Garden Center within walking distance of the school.
Officials said there didn't appear to be other threats, but were still searching the school, where some students were reportedly hiding, according to parents who were in contact with them.
Students with transportation were allowed to leave.

"In this moment of tragedy, there are heroes showing who they are," U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin tweeted. "Thank you to everyone who is stepping up to help in our community’s time of need."
Meanwhile, WILX-TV (Channel 10) was livestreaming from the school, following the unfolding scene of authorities, and the snow-covered school grounds. Other media reported some student were taken to McLaren hospital.

Authorities appeared from the overhead Facebook feed to be sweeping the school.

When no assault weapons were permanently banned after Sandy Hook, there was no reason to think things will change in our lifetimes. Doesn't get much worse than slaughtering children.

If I believed in hell, I would hope for the assholes supporting the NRA to have a special cubby hole there to burn in.

Many strongly believe they have a right to stockpile as many weapons and as much ammo as possible and just wait until they decide to use it. When its their turn to go off they can just kill as many as possible as quickly as possible and nothing should be done to infringe upon that right.

I stay about 20 minutes from the school they say it’s about 1800 students and that the student was bullied..... the usual but it’s a lot of black kids go out there to lots of black kids so you never know who it is.....

Exactly. There are quite a bit of Hispanics that go there also. It's right next to the city of Pontiac.
I have friends who live in Oxford and they would complain about the profiling. The husband and son would be followed a lot.
