Female Nigerian slave trader Efunroye Tinubu (c. 1880)

Efunroye Tinubu (c. 1810 – 1887), born Ẹfúnpọ̀róyè Ọ̀ṣuntinúbú,[1] was a powerful Yoruba female aristocrat, merchant, and slave trader in pre-colonial and colonial Nigeria.[2][3][4] She was a politically and economically influential figure in Lagos during the reigns of monarchs (Yoruba: Oba) Adele, Dosunmu, Oluwole, and Akitoye, helping the latter two Obas gain political power. She was married to Oba Adele of Lagos, and she used his connections to establish a successful trade network with European and West African merchants in slaves, tobacco, salt, cotton, palm oil, coconut oil, and firearms. She allegedly owned over 360 personal slaves.[5]
She sold slaves to Brazilian and European merchants in violation of a 1852 treaty with Great Britain outlawing the slave trade in Lagos, which resulted in her coming into conflict with the British.[5] She was exiled to Abeokuta under British pressure after plotting an unsuccessful conspiracy to remove British influence from Lagos. While in Abeokuta, she helped supply the city with munition during its victorious war against the Kingdom of Dahomey, thus granting her the chieftancy title of Iyalode in her honour.
She died in Abeokuta in 1887. The landmark Tinubu Square in Lagos, Nigeria is named after her and also contains a statue of her. She also has a statue in Abeokuta, Nigeria.

Fats Domino with wife Rosemarie - they were married from 1947 until her death in 2008 - and their six children ( two more were born after this photo was taken) circa 1959. Fats’ first language was Creole - which is sadly fading with the younger generation in Louisiana.
