When Miami police wouldn't let her get a motorcycle license in the early 1950s, Bessie Stringfield demanded a meeting with the department's white chief.

He took her to a park and asked her to perform a number of difficult motorcycle tricks — and she nailed them all. "From that day on, I didn't have any trouble from the police, and I got my license too." It didn’t take long for her to earn the nickname of "Motorcycle Queen Of Miami."

We hear so many struggle stories and horrific situations but for many Black people - they had to live their lives, and they would just approach White people with perseverance and often didn't take no for an answer. We had pilots, doctors, lawyers, and people of all professions that we were told didn't exist, but that was not the case.

Here is a little history for individuals that are fans of the movies Top Gun and Top Gun: Maverick.

The first Top Gun competition was held in 1949. The white pilots competed with the latest state of art aircraft while the African-American pilots were forced to compete with older obsolete planes. After 3 days of competition The Tuskegee Airmen team of : Captain Alva Temple, 1st Lieutenant Harry Stewart, 1st Lieutenant James Harvey, and 1st Lieutenant Halbert Alexander (alternate) were announced the winners.

There was dead silence in the room. Not one of their colleagues applauded this accomplishment. The victory was swept under the rug and the trophy was not seen by the public for 55 years. Introducing the real Top Guns.
