Richard Sherman blasted NFL for continuing to schedule "Thursday night games, called it "Poopfest"

If you think about it the argument against what he's saying is similar to the one used against Kapernick such as "if you don't like it you can leave" and using his income as a reason for him not to air any grievances.
Give Kap his credit. This ain't the same. Kap has walked into a different level. Sherman is T.O.

His perspective is off. There are many people who have worked 10 days straight fam on some hard labor and have nothing to show for it.

He played a game of football on Thursday and took home $875,000 dollars. He was well compensated for being inconvenienced

So just shut up and be grateful health be damned?

What does what other people make or don't make have to do with that man?

If you want to use that argument then you could say the owners make way more than him per game just to sit in a comfortable heated/air conditioned booth so in his world/income bracket he and other players are comparable to the people you're referring to when you consider the owners of these teams are making billions compared to millions and a very short career.

Bruh the last 3 thursday night games were good competitive games.... its not the product its the matchups...
That KC OAK game was horrible; You see how bad OAK played?? Overwhelming majority of these games on thursday are awful; it not the matchup; every team has played on thursday so it has nothing to do with the matchup bro...

Bro stop comparing entertainers and athletes to the average person; they are not; if they were average, they wouldnt be in their position and/or getting paid like they do; do you know how many businesses run because of these athletes?? you know how many people are employed because of athletes, not owners, athletes!!! He has every right to try to improve his employer and better his union that he involved in; its a shitty product on thursday, hell its almost just as bad on sunday; but those thursday games need to stop asap...
Thursday night games have some of the highest ratings on TV for that night

Athletes are no different than your 9-5ers. He felt inconvenienced but was well compensated for it. Many people work grueling hours and get nothing

Give Kap his credit. This ain't the same.

Wasn't saying the situations were the same. Obviously the shit Kap is protesting is of far more importance and significance.

I'm saying the responses are similar. Instead of addressing the validity what hes saying his income is being raised as a valid counter point. Or the "he should just be grateful he's playing" argument is raised.

Obviously totally different subjects and levels of importance but the same bullshit arguments are used to discredit their points.

Actually the ratings on thursday night games have dropped every year; again comparing apples to tomatoes doesnt really make sense; and compensation or not, he still has every right to try to improve the product that hes apart of...

You're missing the point completely but as stated earlier, that's your schtick. You and others are going on about how much they make when that has absolutely nothing to do with their concern for their health.

The next time a police officer complains about the risk of getting killed on their job, or doctors complain about being forced to work longer hours, we should just say "you get paid enough, shut up and stop complaining" right?
This man played a grand total of 27 minutes. No one is feeling sorry for that clown who took home $875,000

Man he makes 14 million a year. There are people in this world who got real jobs where they work 50 plus hours of hard demanding work and he complains
Well, the people in the NFL are among the best in the world at what they do. How many of the people who are in the top 1 percent of what they do are complaining? Top lawyers. Top surgeons. Top developers.

Don't compare professional athletes with folks who aren't even among the best at what they do within their own city limits. 7 billion on the planet, but how many folks can do what Sherman does?

About time someone had balls to speak, since the players' union ain't shit.

Actually, you may have several people in this thread who have played sports and would give they left nut for a shot to play on Thursday night for a cool million dollars. Shit, the scores are so low it's more like a day off, you ain't even got to do shit but show up.

The NFL has plenty of issues, I'm not a fan of Thursday games, but I'm also not a fan of niggas complaining because there aren't enough bubbles in their champagne.

It don't matter what they'd give. If they were good enough they'd be playing this thursday...
let's not discredit the hard work and talent it takes for these guys to be where they are
it wasn't by accident.

That's bullshit. He just chose a lucrative profession.
Nobody bats an eyelash at all these other jobs that pull in millions where they hardly do SHIT and they don't have to worry about being able to play with their kids when they get older.
The money is there for them to make because we watch it and sponsors pay. So let's get off this bullshit about what they make. They make that much because the people who own the team can afford to pay them that much and still make a big profit
that's always the dumbest argument in the fucking world.

you don't like athletes getting paid so much money. organize. don't watch. don't go to games. stop the revenue stream and they won't
until then stfu

Dude whatever... it is what it is.... You are adding extra bullshit to try to validate your argument, da fuck fighting for wages have to do with him not liking playing on Thursdays...

So, if a motherfucker doesn't like the fact that their company business hours are 8-5, they should 'fight' to have the boss change it... Or hey, maybe be pissed because the weekend is only 2 days long and it should be 4... .

Again, the league has been playing Thursday games for 10 years, if he doesn't like it, negotiate with his team so he doesn't have to play Thursdays or fucking quit end of story... :hmm:
I agree totally man...

Being good at something does change perspective. Just because the maintenance man at your local city hall is not a athlete does not mean his work is less valuable than Sherman. Stop putting athletes on pedestals as if they are any different from you. They work the same way that you do.

I said nothing about an athlete deserving pay. My statement was very clear. I have no sympathy for a man that worked a grand total of 27 mins for $875,000 dollars.

Ask the landscaper on construction worker who has worked 10 days straight.

Before I started my cleaning business I worked in marketing in a nice plush office with cool air, coffee and internet. I use to complain about my marketing job working me to much until I started my cleaning business. Spending 13 hour days scrubbing the piss off toilets, washing floors and tubs was some demanding ass labor. That is when my perspective changed. People complain about the dumbest things

If you have the opportunity to work 27 minutes for $875,000, be thankful. Most of us will never receive that opportunity.

Yeah... this big nostril having Coon sounds like a bitch. Acting like they play Thursday and then have to play the next Sunday 3 days later...

No but they do play Sunday then 4 days later.

And they have to practice in between those days.

I guess that they could all wear the red or yellow no contact jerseys and helmets or all be put on the injury report, so that they can all skip each of the practices during those weeks....I suppose.

So in a game that is already dangerous and taxing on the body the players are assholes for not wanting these dangers compounded by having even less recovery time between games?
This. The only people that would disagree with what you said are cacs and cats who never played. Plus Thursday night games typically suck.

Football is mental and a very physical sport, work place safety shouldn't be a debate regardless on how much money sport athletes make. The mind and body needs rest. And it's not just about playing the game mid week. You have practices video reviews of games, studying the opposition. Football Players not sitting around doing nothing for the next 3-4 days waiting to play their next opponent.

Yes for 14 million a year. That is not even close to what hard labor is. Imagine riding on the back of stank as garbage truck or maintenance man or janitor cleaning toilets for 14 hours a day for $10 an hour.

People have real issues than a worrying about a dude who could retire tomorrow before 30
garbage men are making 6 figs here in ny being garbage men and i kno a lot of custodian jobs that was starting at least $15 and up..in fact early 2000 damn near any janitor job i heard was starting btw 18-22 an hr and that was back in 2000.. some people make more than that and are doing real good and none are doin 14hr shifts..if they are u best believe they getting double shift/ot which is a time and a half.. so that 18 an hr now becomes 27 an hr..remember that's starting at 18..who knows what it jumps to over the yrs

There is a very large thread on BGOL that I am active in. I have owned a janitorial company for a long time now. I am now in a few states. Those rates you posted are not even close. I never worked out of NY or Cali but you can't get those rates anywhere else

So... like I just said, if he doesn't like the way his job is set up, quit and find another job....
As with any contracted job, whenever one side realizes a deal breaker exists, it behooves them to negotiate until an acceptable agreement is met.

Quitting ends the option for either side to benefit.

He's not whining, he's using negotiation tactics.

How is he using negotiating tactics... He's under a contract he signed. There is no one else at the table. While your first sentence is very true, it does not apply in this case. There is no deal to break, and no negotiation, because he's already signed the contact. The time to negotiate would have been when he had leverage PRIOR to signing he contract. He's whining now Bruh, maybe regret signing the contract under these conditions, I don't know...

He knew he would be asked to play with no recovery and still signed the contract. No need to worry about what the man signing the checks is making... He had the option to request a no thursday arrangement when he signed the contract and didn't... Now, thats his problem. I was talking about what he's making under the context of the post I was replying to. His salary is NOT my main point of contention...
