I had to do the Heimlich at work for a client in the late-2000s. She was quietly choking on a meal and exited to go to the elevator out of shyness / embarassment (to head back to her suite). Fortunately a guy was getting off the elevator as she was ready to get on at the main floor, and yelled for help and brought her back to the common area ...

Shoutout to your uncle for saving your sister!

Yeah - the incident was scary. I was working oncall at this location, and it was right before Christmas and the woman was heading to her daughter's place later that evening for a family visit. She was a grandma in her late-60s. I called the family to alert them she was in the hospital. Fortunately they were able to get there and discharge later that evening and thanked me. I made sure to acknowledge a few other people who were helping me, and told the manager to acknowledge all of them to their peers too. They did the following week (believe they had a cake for them).

What made the situation challenging too was that she was resisting the help and panicking, and then wanted to lie down. I had to keep her standing or seated and leaning forward, and when she was standing she peed herself and was starting to slip on the floor.

What was tricky too was the the 911 call reception wasn't that clear so I had to hand the phone off and tell the person with us to describe exactly what they were seeing, and mentioned her age, height, weight, health condition otherwise. I also had another person go and open a few doors with door stops, and another person run out to the street to greet the firefighters or paramedics when they arrived. It was an apartment building that had a long walkway to get to the front entrance (sort of hidden), and several doors to get into the common area where we were. So that was good. Helped speed up the process w/ emergency response getting there.

The paramedics had her lying forward and on her side and were struggling to dislodge the food too. Eventually they got it out with a hook / suction device in the ambulance. It was a meal of baked ham and scalloped potatoes.
