Smart move by Chris Mortensen, especially if he made the decision himself.
He just didn't have it anymore. As a guy who is getting older you just know the areas where you are slowing down.
You never want to stay so long you become the next Mike Ditka
I guess ESPN is letting them double dip, so I guess they might have cut their salaries and gave them allowances to make up for it.

I wanted to just leave it at congrats because she is very unfairly hated on just for being a woman
But you raise a good point.
I bet ESPN could cap all salaries at a million dollars and not lose quality but actually be better by not sacrificing the people in the background who could all get raises instead of axes.
It's really a lot like the CEO pay issue.
I'm a big fan of Mina and she deserves every penny.

I do not know these people off camera or the REAL CONTRACT numbers so I'm careful to criticize a firing from an uninformed position

And they have NO ONE to blame but themselves because since the birth of ESPN + talent there TRIED to tell these executives how to properly use, develop and monetize their insane market dominance.
Why didn't ALL THESE shows have podcasts as soon as that option became available?
They wasted so much money streaming edited versions of their shows because they didn't have the foresight to arrange permission to use footage.
Should have videotaped all podcasts and radio shows to stream later.
They could have created and OWNED a dozen McAfee types 5 to 8 years ago.
They stupidly blocked espn talent from going on other shows... in the past
But look how Pablo Bo and Mina did.
They SHOULD have did similar shared deals with other talent from jump
Sadly Bo didn't work out but they never supported his podcast properly. And used him the right way. Should have had a regular guest spot on a couple of shows.

Mina legit smart.
But what the Ringer and Meadowlark is now? SHOULD be what ESPN was aiming at with a more polished bigger budget.
They keep firing talent when they ain't really the problem...

Mina works damn hard. Knows football better than most of these so called experts and made sure to have a strong social media presence

It looks like ESPN's strategy is to pay (overpay?) for personalities and folks with large social media followers that can hopefully pull in extra viewers while letting go of folks who are just "traditional" reporters and talking heads.
Who knows if it will work in the end, but that appears to be their strategy.
I like Mina, but $1.7m per year is a lot of fucking money and I'm not sure she's worth that.
Plus she's about to have a baby (for the first time I assume) and will presumably be off the air for a bit.
I'm sure when she comes back off maternity leave they will work her like a dog and have her on damn near every show like Charles Barkley joked about.
Difference is that McAfee, Stephen A, Skip.....carry shows and have real fanbases. She's a guest on other peoples shows. People don't come for her.

The biggest thing about Mina is she doesn't really have a personality, and personality is what drives TV and keeps people coming back

Mina makes appearances on Get Up, ATH and NFL Live...

I was wondering earlier this week why I was getting Dominique's pod twice in a row, and if it was my app and then I realized what it was. They pushed it to Bo's feed.
Bomani had the number two podcast on ESPN, but ESPN figured they can develop Domonique and he would maintain a lot of the black demo, especially since they had Foxworth Friday's and all of us are familiar with him. So cut the one making more money and they can send Domique through the turnstile since that's not really Bo's thing.
