Just a Whole Bunch of Questions About Baby Yoda
By Jen Chaney, Jackson McHenry, and Kathryn VanArendonk
What to expect when you’re expecting a Baby Yoda. Photo: Disney+

After a bit of space-adventuring and Blurgg riding, The Mandalorian ends its first episode with a major reveal: There’s a new little green bundle of joy in the Star Wars universe. Our chrome-headed antihero spends the episode tracking down a mysterious 50-year-old target, which turns out to actually be a 50-year-old Baby Yoda. Well, not Yoda exactly: The Mandalorian discovers a cute, baby-eyed creature that appears to be the same species as the most powerful Jedi tutor in the Galaxy.

All we know so far is that Baby Yoda is very cute, so much so that the Mandalorian shot a droid bounty hunter to protect him (understandable), and then paused to re-create The Creation of Adam by sticking his finger toward its floating crib (this bounty hunter lives for art history, apparently). While Vulture’s staff is similarly willing to go to war in defense of Baby Yoda, we still have many, many questions about it and what it means for the Star Wars universe. We convened to lay out all our Baby Yoda–related questions (and also demand that The Mandalorian answer them as quickly as possible, especially the ones involving diapers).

1. Where did Baby Yoda come from? Was it born, hatched, or what?

2. Is Yoda the father of Baby Yoda? If so, does Baby Yoda have a mom?

3. There’s already a fan theory that the mom is Yaddle, a minor character we all surely remember from Attack of the Clones. If Yoda is the dad and Yaddle is the mom, what is the baby’s name? Yodle? Yoddler? Yaby? Lil’ Yoda?

4. The characters on The Mandalorian speculate that Baby Yoda is 50 years old. If they’re right, who was hiding him for all this time — throughout the rise of the Empire and subsequent rebellion — and why?

5. How many Yoda-like creatures are out there? Is Baby Yoda the last one?

6. Is Baby Yoda force sensitive?

7. Does Baby Yoda’s crib float on its own, or did Baby Yoda make it float?

8. What will it look like when Baby Yoda has a tantrum?

9. Will future episodes of The Mandalorian revolve around Baby Yoda causing chaos, a la Jack Jack in The Incredibles? (Please say yes.)

10. Does Baby Yoda wear diapers?

11. Does the Mandalorian even know how to change diapers?

12. What does Baby Yoda eat? Does it drink from bottles? Does the Mandalorian’s ship have a dishwasher?

13. Will the Mandalorian have to hunt down Yoda-appropriate forms of baby food? Is this where the green milk from The Last Jedi could be useful?

14. Does the Mandalorian need to throw a baby shower now? Where is he registered?

15. Will Baby Yoda learn to speak like Yoda if it’s raised by the Mandalorian?

16. What are the developmental benchmarks a Baby Yoda should be hitting? Does the Mandalorian need to read up on some parenting literature?

17. Most parenting literature suggests it’s very important for babies to watch their caregivers’ faces. Will the Mandalorian need to take off his helmet so Baby Yoda can learn empathy?

18. [Types into Google] baby yoda sleep training how?

19. Are there more Baby Yodas for this Baby Yoda to have playdates with?

20. Should the Mandalorian check out Mommy Poppins for the best Baby Yoda playgroups? Does Mommy Poppins even cover that part of the galaxy?

21. Can you leave a Baby Yoda with the fish nuns? Are fish nuns even certified daycare providers?

22. Is Baby Yoda innately endowed with ass-kicking lightsaber skills? How young is too young to give a Baby Yoda its fight lightsaber?

23. At what age will The Mandalorian be appropriate viewing for Baby Yoda, according to Common Sense Media?

24. Wookieepedia says that members of Yoda’s species possess a “sub-brain” that activates when they have visions. Uh, what’s up with that?

25. Does Baby Yoda qualify as a Muppet Baby?

26. Is Disney+ planting the seed for a Muppet Babies/Star Wars crossover?

27. Will there be a future scene in which Werner Herzog says, “Baby Yoda, I am your father”?

28. Will Baby Yoda eventually become Teen Yoda? Will it be a teen for centuries?

29. Wait, what if Baby Yoda becomes Teen Goth Yoda?

I honestly didn't care much for Rogue One. Outside of the Vader scenes, it was pretty forgettable.

I cared for none of the characters.

I have spoken.

That's cause they died.
It's difficult to put a 1 off against 6 movies of history
the fact that they fit seamlessly and didn't fuck it up in ANY WAY is a testament to how good it actually was
many people complain about the new star wars and the 1/2/3 series gets shat on all the time
not rogue one.

This was well done. They took their time, made sure they got the mood and the feeling right. Made sure they were careful with how they introduced us to the world we're about to inhabit. That's the bar. It had full feature-length movie production value on a tv show

This is what I was talking about in the other thread. The original TV shows aren't going to be some rinky dink hit or miss shit as far as PRODUCTION value goes. They might not be all that good as some series aren't but it won't be because they were cheap

we have a captain america/ winter soldier series to look forward to with the fucking people from the movie
as well as a loki series with loki in the bitch
come on now

I feel you. I like how they connected it to A New Hope. I just thought the movie, outside of the Vader and final battle scene, was forgettable.

It might be the best SW film Disney released so far though, but that's not saying much.

Actually dug Solo for what it was even though that movie was unnecessary too.

Mandalorian is dope.

I can't wait for the Obi Wan series...

Man Disney should just say fuck the films and do Star Wars shows from here on out....

I was honestly BORED with this show.
The only things I actually liked were Werner Herzog (HUGE Fan here) and IG-11.
The tone of the show came off schizophrenic.
Like it wanted to have a mature approach, while trying to appeal to children.
And it didn't exactly work.

My overall view is that DISNEY+ should have waited to launch with at least one of the MARVEL programs in the can first.
Because unlike STAR WARS, the interests in those MARVEL properties isn't waning any time soon.

Naw... this a perfect time for the Holiday season with all the Disney, Marvel, Star Wars movies and endless Spider-Man shit for the kids to watch while out of school and adults to binge watch old shows while off work...

Disney knows their Brand and audience...

This last 3rd installment is the last one imo

It's a western
It's deliberate
And it's a character study more than it is a wham bam

I kinda feel TORN on this one..

world building is so damn DIFFICULT to do ESPECIALLY in today's climate.

Because as WONDERFUL as LOST first episode was? OVERALL... not so much

but look at how in comparison Agents of SHIELD will go down as one of the BEST ever SPECIFICALLY because they consistently improved episode to episode

honorable mention to Arrow and Gotham

so while I AGREE a first episode is CRITICAL?

I think it also depends on a LOT of other factors

And Mandalorian is not something to be held to that

(I would put the Netflix Marvel shows in that category also)

People get caught up in expecting
That's where they go wrong

Watch a show not expecting or comparing it to shit initially
Let the show, show you

He loves star wars and he won't admit it but he was hoping for the star wars he loves and it doesn't fit that so he's upset and masking it as critique

All of his points about not liking the show stem from his ideas of what a show he never saw before should be lol

A 38 minute introduction with high drama and deliberate pacing is not what he wanted
So his reaction

In the end his opinion counts the same as mind

I'm not swayed by his

Agents of shield took a full season
And then they completely abandoned their initial way of doing shows lol

You watch it the first time with a clean slate. It's how I'm able to enjoy or judge so many shows
I almost would never do the shows the way they're done and almost always know exactly how to make it better
but it isn't about ME

this goes back to how people watch movies and shows today ad how its no fun its just comparing this thing to that thing...this is unique to this time because NO ONE would think do that 25, 30 years or so....

I don't read the star wars universe stories or ANY SciFi universe stories like Aliens or Terminator etc...and I do that because
1. I have no interest in them
2. I don't count them as integral to understanding the movies or tv shows
3. I LIKE discovering things in the movie or tv show first run.

So I have no idea what Mandalorians are or how they work and function beyond what I've see of Boba Fett
and Jango Fett in the movies. So the armor building thing and why thats significant to the character needs to be explained in the show at some point.

Here's the thing that really irks me about how this generation watches tv and movies...there's no magic and discovery and figuring things out or being presented with new information. Everything...damn near EVERYTHING in movies and tv shows have some sort of source material and/or revealed backstory that's known AND on top of that spoilers and near spoilers in articles and BTS footage is used to promote the thing so much so that you (not you specifically but you this generation) don't watch movies with the idea of magic and discovery...your just comparing whats happening on the screen to what you already know. And if things don't match up then it SUCKS!

Theres already articles and such saying theres a twist in the movie Last Christmas...guess what....just saying there's a twist...ruins the twist. What makes a twist great is that it's NOT EXPECTED... it's like telling a person that something going happen for them on their birthday...even if you don't reveal what that thing is...they know to expect something...and that ruins the surprise in and of itself. And the flick is STILL in the theaters. :smh: :smh: :smh:

If The Empire Strikes Back came out today...there would news articles with headlines like
5 THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT DARTH VADER
THE TWIST ENDING TO EMPIRE STRIKES BACK EXPLAINED
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT LUKE, LEIA AND THE EMPIRE

OBI-WAN AND YODA'S CONNECTION TO DARTH VADER

They do shit like this ALL the time now and its pisses me off. There's no fun in movie watching anymore everything has to be overly analyzed TWO WEEKS BEFORE AND TWO SECONDS after its come out. :smh::smh::smh:

it doesn't matter that he put spoilers in the post...twitter is openly broadcast so someone who hasn't seen the show yet is now robbed of the WOW component of seeing that baby whatever the fuck Yoda's species is.

This is how people watch movies and tv shows today.

The Clone Wars & Rebels animated series is on Disney+

They are both integral to the movies and will give you a complete history on Mandalorians
