Actually the fact it has to cover birth control and physicals each year at no cost is revolutionary. The fact that college kids could stay on their parents insurance until they were 26. They had to meet minimum standards of care so that people weren't paying a ton of money for insurance that didn't cover anything when they actually needed it. It put a cap on how much could be used for administrative costs, so reps are less likely to be paid thousands of dollars to deny care so the company could get a higher profit margin. They were basically being paid bonuses to not save your life. Death panels were used as a scare tactic, but it was already in place with companies denying to cover procedures before ACA. Premiums were going up every year anyway, ACA slowed them down.
