I don’t think defense has ever really mattered that much. MVP has always been an offense player of the year award.

I not disagreeing with either of you. I’m just saying the league rarely considers . It’s been that way for a long time. It’s how I felt when Nash was getting it and I felt Billups deserved it over him that year.
In this case, defense should have been considered, but it doesn’t surprise me that it wasn’t.

You can make the case that the players, prior to '83 First official DPOY award, did take into account the Defensive side when voting on MVP before the media took over voting in '81...
I'm sure Russell, Wilt and Kareem would have been the first 3 to win multiple MVP's and DPOY's in the same year...

No more MVP's for lower than 4th seeded teams. Injury situation be damned. Awarding the MVP to somebody laying on a beach somewhere in the 2nd round while other teams still playing is dumb. Statiscally most top 4 seeds advance out the 1st round. I get it's a regular season award but damn
