After last seasons horrible finale, I was seriously considering not going back, but my DVR recorded the 2 hour series review last week and I found myself sitting through it. I realized how many genuinely great moments the show has had. I figured I'd watch this premier just out of loyalty, but overall it was just ok to me. So here's my Good Bad Ugly review
The Good:
Killing Glen off. I figured Abraham was safe one to kill off now that he's doesn't have any deep attachment to anyone and his need to protect Eugene is gone, but killing Glen off proved the show can still take some unpopular actions (from a fan perspective). Technically, Glen was already on his second life anyway after last seasons miraculous escape from a horde of zombies. I don't think it was random either. I think on some level Negan suspected Abe was a true danger in terms of physical violence and resistance and that Glen was the emotional backbone of the group. On the other hand, I think Negan underestimates the women on team Rick and that will probably become evident later on.
The Bad:
Negan's a bad guy. We get it. We've been shown all manners of bad guys, truly psychotic people, deranged and insane people and I guess Negan is all that rolled into one. But I feel like the Winnebago scene was just some extended scenery chewing screen time for the actor playing Negan. Could've skipped straight to the Carl arm scene without going thru all that extra bs. I would have liked to see more of how Negan gained control or a bit more of the power structure in his group. I guess that will come later. Would have been nice to get a Carole/Morgan update. Even if just a quick flash
The Ugly:
As they drove off Rick doesn't even flinch when the zombie starts to dig up Glen or Abraham's grave. That more than anything shows you Rick is beat down mentally.
