The Walking Dead: All Seasons (DON'T POST SPOILERS)

After last seasons horrible finale, I was seriously considering not going back, but my DVR recorded the 2 hour series review last week and I found myself sitting through it. I realized how many genuinely great moments the show has had. I figured I'd watch this premier just out of loyalty, but overall it was just ok to me. So here's my Good Bad Ugly review

The Good:
Killing Glen off. I figured Abraham was safe one to kill off now that he's doesn't have any deep attachment to anyone and his need to protect Eugene is gone, but killing Glen off proved the show can still take some unpopular actions (from a fan perspective). Technically, Glen was already on his second life anyway after last seasons miraculous escape from a horde of zombies. I don't think it was random either. I think on some level Negan suspected Abe was a true danger in terms of physical violence and resistance and that Glen was the emotional backbone of the group. On the other hand, I think Negan underestimates the women on team Rick and that will probably become evident later on.

The Bad:
Negan's a bad guy. We get it. We've been shown all manners of bad guys, truly psychotic people, deranged and insane people and I guess Negan is all that rolled into one. But I feel like the Winnebago scene was just some extended scenery chewing screen time for the actor playing Negan. Could've skipped straight to the Carl arm scene without going thru all that extra bs. I would have liked to see more of how Negan gained control or a bit more of the power structure in his group. I guess that will come later. Would have been nice to get a Carole/Morgan update. Even if just a quick flash

The Ugly:
As they drove off Rick doesn't even flinch when the zombie starts to dig up Glen or Abraham's grave. That more than anything shows you Rick is beat down mentally.

Agree 100%

As wild as he comes off, those killings were very strategic. The obvious threats were eliminated and helped to break Rick down. Then he took away Darryl. #Textbook.

Thing is, he aint seeing the whole board. Carol is in the wild and Maggie looking like she bout to raise up. Its the not-so-obvious ones that will end up turning the tide. Have no idea who at this point. But change gon' come

I hear some on here talking about how fine some pale skinny ass chicks from the cast are. Well Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green) is fine and beautiful as a muthafucka mane.

over the top violent and sadistic because there's no more plot left. this is the end of the road.

this is like when Oz ran out of good writing so they just filled the last few seasons with violence and jailrape...

you guys are confusing torture porn for good tv. shit was trash.

Its wasn't trash, but it didn't move me either.

I'm not really as interested in series as in the

past. Don't know if it was the lay off, the

garbage other series, or my interest being

Elsewhere. But this happens in the comics

Which were already written. So your whole

plot suggestion is off based on no more

material or the writing.

My point is this...

There's a way to do it without the violence taking center stage.
Negans bat had a stronger performance than Rick or Glen.
That's not good TV.

I shoulda left that episode wondering how Carl is gonna cope with seeing his dad get trained like a puppy that pissed on the rug.
I should left that episode floored at how Glen is never gonna see his unborn kid or over his last words to Maggie.
That's how they kept me in the game in the past. The violence never overshadowed the people.

Last night, seeing 2 guys get their heads beaten into a pulp was the strongest thing I left that episode with. It was lazy. The cliffhanger episode last season was lazy. I'm saying that the show jumped the shark. Maybe I'll be proven wrong...

You're making excuses for it but I'm saying the same thing you are. The episode was draining and didn't draw me in whether part of the comic plot or not...
Wow. But the whole point of this particular episode was to see who died. Not sure how that's jumping the shark. Maybe next episode will get more personal and you'll walk away having those feelings.

Only thing i didn't like, was Glens death was similar to the comics, but I didn't get that realistic vibe from it. I don't know what it is, but when I watch something and I see a bunch of adults "following the leader" it just seems corney to me.

I agree. The Winnebago scene was drawn out too long. IMO it would have been better if Negan just went to the arm chop scene and killed people from the group every minute he hesitated. The arm chop was what really broke Rick. I'm actually glad Glenn died because him surviving like he did was the biggest BS scene in the series. the idea that the zombies stopped smelling him, and just quit while he hid under a dumpster was BS.

The basically die a GOT level psychological breakdown in 45 minutes.

good work

and the double death?

was completely unexpected.

scariest thing to me?

If you watch Talking Dead...

they had reaction shots and there were some truly soulless cacs watching that with eyes wide open and didn't flinch or react damn near looked like they were taking notes or watching a home movie.

nah - the winnebago scene was very needed
Rick had to be physically and mentally broken before Negan put him in an difficult choice
Negan appeared unarmed and couldn't start the winnebago but after he proved his point that he was always prepared,
he cranked the 'bago right up on first key turn, then the zombie ax challenge was to reinforce to Rick he was toying with him

"Did you hear that? He said 'suck myyy nuts' (mocking Abraham)...ha ha haaaaaaa!!"

"HA HA HAAAAA,,,you guys, look at my dirty girl (lucille)!!"

"Sweetheart, lay your eyes on THIS!!" {puts bloodied bat in Rosita's face}

"Ohhhh Damn, were you together? That sucks."

"Red, he is, was and will ever be red!!" {points bat at whats left of Abraham}

"Not one bit of that shit, flies here!!" {after Daryl didn't heed the warning}

"Lucille is thirsty, shes a vampire bat!!"

Negan to Rick: "What? was the joke that bad?"

So many quotables from Negan

another quote from negan.......

"He got guts, not a bitch like someone i know."

Another one...

"You bunch of pussies (while standing over Glenn's body, about to hammer the bat down one more time). I'm just getting started"

I'm far from a film or TV critic. I do not normally pickup on the beauty and intricacies of a scene. However, I was almost mesmerized by the cinematography of the darkness, the headlights from the cars in the background, and the mist or fog in the air being illuminated by the headlights, while Negan is taking shots on Glenn. I keep rewinding that part. I want to find that scene and make it a wall paper.

Man. that's when he started to break him. He did that to exercise absolute power over him.
He was training his new pet. The arm break scene doesn't happen without the RV scene.
Rick went from plotting to kill him to realizing that it's done. To the point that Negan felt comfortable enough HANDING HIM an axe and driving with his back turned to Rick having an axe and knowing rick ain't going to do shit
