Last year, CBS was criticized for a new fall lineup that featured six shows all staring white males.

This fall’s just-revealed lineup shows the broadcaster has gotten more diverse: Five shows starring white males … and one starring former Criminal Minds favorite Shemar Moore.

A reporter at the CBS press breakfast on Wednesday asked CBS chief Les Moonves if having no new shows with female leads is really a good idea. “We saw this with you guys last year,” the reporter asked. “Are you concerned, particularly in a medium like television where women watch more than men, that you have such a male-centered [lineup]?”

“Well, number one, more women watch CBS, percentage-wise, than any other network, so our shows have a lot of female appeal,” Moonves countered. “I don’t think we’ve ever had to apologize for having Madam Secretary and Lucy Liu [on Elementary], and The Good Fight [on CBS All Access] and The Good Wife. We do a number of pilots, a lot of them have women in starring roles. There are a lot of women on the schedule. The best pilots win at the end of the day. And we think our track record is okay.”

The reporter pressed: “We’re at this point in the industry — FX, for example, is trying to make sure half its directors are female. It seems like you guys might be facing in the wrong direction?”

Moonves replied: “I don’t think that’s the case. Let me put on my CEO hat for a second because I’m not the president of entertainment. When I look at the totality of what CBS is, I look at news, I look at daytime, I look at sports, I look at Showtime, I look at The CW. And when you look at the totality of that, I think we’re fine in terms of the amount of women who are behind the camera and in front of the camera. I think we’re doing a very good job. I don’t think we’re looking in the wrong direction, on the contrary.”

ABC defends Last Man Standing cancellation

Star Tim Allen: ‘Stunned and blindsided’

ABC is breaking its silence on its decision to cancel Last Man Standing — and so is star Tim Allen.

The axing of Allen’s sitcom, which delivered a strong 8 million viewers on Friday nights, has upset fans — particularly conservative viewers who feel the show’s conservative star was singled out. ABC entertainment president Channing Dungey defended her decision to reporters on a conference call Tuesday, noting she also canceled shows with decidedly more progressive politics this year, like producer John Ridley’s acclaimed drama American Crime and columnist Dan Savage’s comedy The Real O’Neals.

“A large part of these jobs are managing failure and we’ve made the tough calls and canceled shows that we’d otherwise love to stay on the air,” Dungey said. “That’s the job. I canceled Last Man Standing for the same business and scheduling reasons that I canceled Dr. Ken, The Real O’Neals, The Catch and American Crime. And Last Man Standing was a challenging one for me because it was a steady performer in the ratings, but once we made the decision not to continue with comedies on Fridays, that was where we landed.”

Meanwhile Allen took to Twitter to express his thoughts on the matter: “Stunned and blindsided by the network I called home for the last six years,” he wrote.

In the wake of news that Last Man Standing was canceled, fans started an online petition pledging to boycott the Disney-owned network.

Last Man Standing stands out in the sea of network television sitcoms. It is a show that appeals to a broad swath of Americans who find very few shows that extol the virtues with which they can identify; namely conservative values,” reads the petition, which topped 106,000 signatures as of this writing. “Last Man Standing was not just selling conservative ideals though, as some of the characters in the show are clearly of the liberal persuasion, yet the characters on the show all manage to get along and take care of one another, despite their politically opposed views … Last Man Standing is one of the only shows on broadcast television, and the only sitcom, that is not constantly shoving liberal ideals down the throats of the viewers. And sadly, that is likely the real reason the show has been canceled.”

Earlier this year, during an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, Allen compared being a Republican in Hollywood to 1930s Germany. He previously told Fox News, “What I find odd in Hollywood is that they didn’t like Trump because he was a bully. But if you had any inkling that you were for Trump, you got bullied for doing that. And it gets a bit hypocritical for me.”

ABC just announced its fall schedule, revealing the Friday 8 p.m. hour that housed Last Man Standing and Dr. Ken will now be taken by the seventh season of Once Upon a Time, which Dungey confirmed will have a full 22 episodes despite downsizing its cast this year.

That show became unwatchable to me once Stifflers mom became a regular with that awful polish accent. I enjoyed Kat's titties too... although she is awful at tv comedy . Says her lines like 10th grade drama student on opening night.

truth be told I am suprised it made this far
i know they must've fought tooth & nail to get some of those shows on air with their subject matter & real take on things

i wonder if this all the fallout of the shooting episode that was postponed

I suspect that is part of what caused the cancellation.

He said this in an interview at one point
Earlier this month, NBC pulled an episode that centered on a mass shooting in light of the shooting in Alexandria, Virginia, but the network eventually relented by airing the episode earlier this week. Carmichael said on Chelsea that NBC’s initial decision to pull the episode was “criminal,” noting that he “handled the episode with as much love and integrity as we possibly could” and pulling it “seems to do a disservice to the viewer, it does a disservice to you, it does a disservice to all of us.”

He was one of the main writers for the show and the creator of the show.

Carmichael shouldn't have been judged by ratings alone.
For the most part it was a summer filler and it doesn't look like it costs a lot to produce.
It seems if it's making $$$ for the network (makes more $$$ in ads per show than what it costs to bring each show to air), RENEW!!
