Season One
8 Episodes
I started watching season one this morning at home. I debated about watching “The Batman” to refresh his character, but went ahead and read a synopsis of the film to get caught up. I finished the series tonight on MAX.
The series picks up immediately after the events ending in The Batman.
First episode did a good job with character development of Penguin without dragging down the episode. The opening scene prior to title display and his interactions with his mother was done well giving us a perspective of his character. I was cracking up with him retrofitting his bedroom into a bank vault.
Victor and Sophia’s backstory was presented well also, without dragging down the series.
Not going into the plot being I’m probably the last person on the forum to watch the series. But they did a decent job keeping the character Penguin close to his original comic book roots, with him being heavily involved in organized crime. He also was portrayed as being completely sane which sticks to his portrayal in the comics, in which he was opposite of Batman’s Rogue’s Gallery of lunatics.
Casting was on point for the series. Clancy Brown when he debuted I automatically recalled him being the voice of “Lex Luther” in the DC animated cartoons.
Cristin Milioti who plays Sophia, that bird is one hot piece of Ass. She looked great up until episode 5, but they changed her appearance when her character went a different route after that.
Colin Farrell as Penquin kicked Ass. Damn good job displaying the different emotions of the character, along with with showing how ruthless and violent he can be. Just when you thought you figured him out, out of nowhere you got a different view of Penquin showing him quickly change in personality. They got him into his trademark tuxedo, came close to seeing him wearing the top hat with umbrella.
This series definitely is due for nominations in Golden Globes/Emmy’s.
MAX/DC has this planned as a Limited Series to lead into the next Batman film. There are no plans to continue it for now. They ended it leading it into the next Batman film.
The series played out better than I expected. I will give it a 8.5/10.
Like all MAX series, their are 5/6 min in-depth clips for each episode along with one hour podcasts going more deeper into each episode.
