TV SHOWS / SERIES - Seen any good ones lately? Please feel free to post reviews / feedback / trailers / articles / TV news / all that shit ...

Finished Fleishman is in Trouble season 1 yesterday. Episode 7 is the one wherein Claire Danes gets to show off her acting chops. Could easily see her getting an Emmy nomination off the strength of that episode - as she is mostly a secondary character the rest of the season. Very good performance.

‘Wednesday’ Outpaces ‘House Of The Dragon’ To Become Most-Watched Premiere Of 2022; Widespread Streaming Content Fuels Subscription Cycling — Report

Streamers hoping to capture audiences with their latest television series have a limited window to do so, according to a new report from Samba TV.
In fact, shows may only have a shelf life of about two weeks to attract viewers. Data from 20 of the most popular shows released in the second half of 2022 shows that 15 of them had driven more than 75% of their total 51-day viewership in just the first 15 days of release. The only exception? Netflix’s Wednesday.

The Addams Family spinoff series had only attracted about 66% of its viewers in the first 15 days and had a longer shelf life than most, Samba reports. Wednesday also blew past HBO’s House of the Dragon to become the most-watched premiere of 2022 in the 40-day viewership window (House of the Dragon won in the initial 15-day window).

According to Samba, Wednesday‘s success was driven at least in part by the way the series went viral on social media, attracting younger audiences.
Getting Gen Z’s attention might be the new key to longterm viewership when it comes to streaming series. In addition to Wednesday and House of the Dragon, Ryan Murphy’s offerings Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story and The Watcher were among the most-watched premieres of the year in the first 15 days of release. All four over-performed among Gen Z and millennial households.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, more people continued to ditch their cable subscriptions last year as well. Only about 48% of U.S. households have a cable or satellite TV subscription — and that number is significantly less among Gen Z and millennial households. More than eight in 10 Gen Z and millennial viewers stream their television, Samba reports.

But despite heavy content investments, viewers continue to demonstrate that their interest in a specific platform is oftentimes tied to only one piece of content, particularly across newer entrants with smaller catalogs of content like Apple TV+ and Paramount+, where over half of viewing households watched only one of the top 50 programs. For example, Paramount+ drew much of its viewership thanks to Taylor Sheridan. One in four subscribers only watched his shows on the streamer in the second half of last year.

Meanwhile Netflix and Disney+, each of which produced significant content across multiple genres, fared better with less than 40% of their viewers watching just one of their top programs throughout the half.

This leads to what experts have dubbed subscription cycling, which is when viewers sign up for a service just to watch one specific program, before canceling and moving on to another streamer. According to Samba, only 29% of U.S. adults have subscription cycled in the past six months but over two-thirds of plan to in the next six months.

Thanks for the info. Did you get a chance to watch The Responder last year? And if so - how did you like it? Glad to hear it's been renewed ... also a BBC series ...

The Responder is a British police drama series set in Liverpool, written by former Merseyside Police officer Tony Schumacher, Tim Mielants as leading director and starring Martin Freeman, Adelayo Adedayo, Ian Hart, and MyAnna Buring.[1] It aired on BBC One on 24 January 2022. Schumacher has said that the character has "a lot to do" with him and the struggles he faced as a police officer, but that the storyline is fictional.[2]

In late March 2022, the series was officially renewed for a second season.[3]

You

8/10

This is a suspense thriller series on Netflix.

Season 3 came out the Fall of 2021 and I just got it finished last night while on the road. It shows how much programming I’m trying to get caught up on.

HaHa!!!

This is a damn good thriller series. Plenty of violence and suspense in each episode to keep you glued to the screen.

The primary character does his role well being that he doesn’t look or fit the profile of a serial killer.

The first two seasons mainly focus on the killer looking for his perfect partner in life. He finds her toward the end of the 2nd season.

The 3rd season goes into their relationship and the series takes a different direction being now there are two primary characters. Season 3 keeps the same pace and tone as the first two seasons and amps it up on suspense until the season finale.

Graphic violence is at a low, but violence is handled well to get the point. Similar to the first Halloween movie back in the 1970s.

For the Thirsty, plenty of eye candy in all 3 seasons to keep you glued to the screen.

For the Gay Agenda trackers, there is a WM/BM openly gay couple. Nothing graphic is shown. There is a also a little lesbian action, nothing graphic is shown.

For the Militants, plenty of interracial in the series mainly around WM/BW. Not much is shown but PDA.

For the Pervs, there is a sexual relationship between a adult woman and teenage boy. There is also a little interracial swinging action. There is also some minor sexual deviancy to tickle you.

This is a good suspense, thriller series to watch with your girl, if you are trying to get her into stuff like this. The series originally debuted on the Lifetime Network and got high ratings being women mainly watched it. Lifetime approved a 2nd season and Netflix grabbed it and has continued it with good response.

Synopsis

Part 2 is scheduled to debut on March 10, 2023.

Season 4
Part One

Just finished watching Part 1 of the season.

The season pretty much follows the premise of prior seasons with it being independent of other seasons to a point.

This season starts out as a “ Who Done It” with Joe somewhat playing Detective to a number of killings involving the Elite in London.

Each episode is a slow burn, but ends with some good suspense to keep you watching the series.

For the Gay Agenda trackers, there is full frontal male nudity including a “Prince Albert”. There is also some watersports between a WM/BM.

There are 5 episodes that run about 45 minutes each.

The Flash

I could listen to Candice Patton speak french forever
Nice nod to Mission Impossible
people were hoping like me, that weak villains wouldnt have that much of
a place in this final season but of course they are going to have mostly every character
that has been part of this show. some cringe acting
The new Caitlin Snow/Frost is giving me Poison Ivy vibes ....hmmmmm

Picard season 3 episode 2 In the Star Trek films and shows i have always wondered why their exploratory vessels lacked in weapons with so many of Star Fleets enemies roaming the universe ...better to have a gun than none IMO
ONCE AGAIN ultra predictable but fun

Really enjoying the current seasons of Godfather of Harlem, Mayor of Kingstown, and Your Honor.

All caught up with them, and there's enough happening each episode to feel that storylines / plots are progressing.

Good recent cast addition on Your Honor too (fans of Breaking Bad / Better Call Saul will be pleased).

Kings of Jo'Burg

5.5/10

This is a supernatural series from South Africa that popped up on my Netflix recommendations last year.

I sat on it waiting to get confirmation of it being renewed for a season 2 which they did. And it looks like a season 3 will debut next year.

As we know, Netflix has become notorious for cancelling series. So with me going forward, I am not getting into anything until I know follow up series have been announced.

There are 2 seasons and I completed season 1 last night. Season 1 is a slow burn season mainly dealing with primary character introduction/development. If you suffer from TV ADHD, don’t waste your time getting into it.

The supernatural part is barely touched upon and not given any definitive explanation until the season finale. The first 5 episodes it is only brought up for a few minutes each episode. That is my main peeve so far with the series, but it looks like it will get more into the supernatural in season 2 from what I saw in the season finale.

For the Thirsty, there are a few pieces of eye candy, but nothing is shown but a few shots of their fully clothed bodies. There is some nudity, but it is not with the female characters you want to see.

Overall, the series plays out like an extended American “Hood” movie. So the main plot is nothing new and very predictable. If you enjoy American Hood films, you will enjoy this series.

I plan on getting season 2 completed within the next month or so.

The series again is from South Africa. English is spoken primarily thru the series, but the characters do flip back and forth from their native tongue to English thru-out, that is when sub- titles is used.

Season 1 has 6 episodes that run about 45 minutes each.

When looking into the series, it is a highly viewed and popular series in South Africa. A number of actors are award winners from Africa stage/film/tv series guilds.

I also found out that the main actor who plays “Simon” passed away after season 1 debuted, his spouse has taken over production.

Synopsis

The Masire brothers rule Johannesburg's criminal underworld, but a supernatural family curse threatens to destroy them.
