I was expecting more action.

It looks like season 2 might kick it up with action.
Lmk if/when the action kicks in… lol

House of Dragons - I’m low key done with that shit. I’ll fuck with the new IT based shit if it’s good and same for whatever the other Thrones spin off is later this year. Shit is burn out on the IP rehashing. Just like in movie thread where it was the tweet showing umpteen and twenty sequels and adaptations.

In regards to the fave series of 2024 list from weeks back, add the following ones too ...

- The Responder - season 2

- The Curse - season 1

- Vigil - season 2

The Curse is an American satirical black comedy thriller television series created and written by Nathan Fielder and Benny Safdie, and starring Emma Stone, Fielder, and Safdie. It was filmed from June to October 2022 and premiered on streaming and on-demand for all Showtime and Paramount+ with Showtime subscribers on November 10, 2023, before making its on-air debut on Showtime on November 12.[7][8] Its first three episodes premiered at the New York Film Festival on October 12, 2023.[9] The first season concluded on January 12, 2024, receiving critical acclaim.[10]

The series explores "How an alleged curse disturbs the relationship of a newly married couple as they try to conceive a child while co-starring on their problematic new HGTV show, Fliplanthropy."[11]

The Responder is a British police drama television series set in Liverpool, written by former Merseyside Police officer Tony Schumacher, with Tim Mielants [nl] as leading director and starring Martin Freeman, Adelayo Adedayo, Ian Hart, and MyAnna Buring.[1] It aired on BBC One on 24 January 2022. Schumacher has said that the character has "a lot to do" with him and the struggles he faced as a police officer but that the storyline is fictional.[2]

In late March 2022, the show was renewed for a second series, consisting of six episodes,[3][4] which began airing on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on 5 May 2024.[5] The second series marked the final acting performance of Bernard Hill, who died the day of its release.[6]

Chris Carson is a police officer in a fictional constabulary covering Liverpool, who has been demoted from his position as an inspector and undertakes a series of night shifts in the city centre. He is a conflicted and compromised man, with somewhat divided loyalties, a desire to do good, but with anger issues brought on by childhood trauma and exacerbated by his experience in the police. Shots of him working are interspersed with scenes at therapy, at home, with his mother in a nursing home, or visiting his estranged father. His partner is Rachel Hargreaves, an inexperienced and idealistic officer who wants to play by the rules but who ultimately dislikes her job.

Vigil is a British police procedural drama television series created by Tom Edge and produced by World Productions. The series premiered on BBC One on 29 August 2021.[1][2] The first series stars Suranne Jones, Rose Leslie, Shaun Evans, Paterson Joseph, Gary Lewis and Martin Compston, and is set in Scotland, primarily onboard HMS Vigil, a ballistic missile submarine of the Royal Navy.

The second series premiered on 10 December 2023. It replaces the nautical setting of the first series with a land-based drama that focuses on prototype drone technology. Jones, Leslie and Lewis reprise their roles with Dougray Scott and Romola Garai joining the main cast.

The Responder is really well acted. Short seasons too - only about 5 episodes each.

The Curse is a crazy ride. One of those shows with many WTF moments as it plays out. I appreciated the way it was shot too. Often lingering in the awkward and uncomfortable. Emma Stone is great.

Vigil has a good assortment of characters each season. Nice tension throughout. A friend of mine recently watched the 1st season and said thanks for the recommendation & plans on starting the 2nd season soon. He's about 3/4 the way through The Day of the Jackal, and gonna finish that first.

If you're a fan of Martin Freeman ... keep an eye on the amount of facial / reactionary acting he does in The Responder. There's alot of it, and he's very good at it. Especially in a role wherein he's experiencing frustration and burnout.

The Curse is one of those series wherein you'll probably ask - "Where are they going with this?" aloud. Some scenes work better than others. But it definitely flew under the radar on Showtime.

With Vigil ... you might not recognize alot of the actors by name, but may know their faces from other overseas projects. My friend was saying - "I knew her from this, and that guy from this ...", etc.

anyone fuck with Netflix AMERICAN PRIMEVAL?

I just listened to this interview on the morning commute. He gives some good, honest answers ... and the stuff re: his work with the shaman was very interesting.

He mentions New West and North Van briefly earlier in the interview (those are local regions here).

He was born a few hours away, but grew up locally ...

For 20 years, Canadian actor Taylor Kitsch has been disappearing into his roles, whether it be a high school football player in 'Friday Night Lights' or a loner frontiersman in his latest series 'American Primeval.' He joined Tom Power to talk about the intense preparation he does for his roles, why he thinks of acting as service, and his thoughts about appearing in the upcoming 'Friday Night Lights' reboot.

Limited Series

8.5/10

This is a new limited series that just debuted on Netflix. I watched it this evening with my sons at home.

The series is based around the infamous 1857 Utah Massacre that was committed by the Mormons.

I wasn’t expecting much, but this series highly surprised me. If you are familiar with Taylor Sheridan’s “1883”, this series is similar but amped up more. This series is what Kevin Costner tried to do with “Horizon”.

The series doesn’t hold back on how hard life was back in the Utah territory in the 1850s. There is hardcore graphic violence throughout and scene of rape (nothing graphic). Lots of fight sequences are shown. The series does not hold back showing how violent Whites, Mormons and Native Americans were against each other.

Casting is top notch with the main characters. Cinematography looks great showing how dark and dire life was like. Every character looks dirty, rough and nasty. Indianapolis Colts owner, Jim Irsay has a small, speaking cameo in Episode 1.

The series is written by the same person who wrote the “The Revenant” starring Leonardo DeCaprio. It has the same vibe as the film. As of now, Netflix has this listed as a limited series with no plans to continue it. The producers have expressed interest on continuing it as an anthology series.

Synopsis

A mother and son fleeing from their past form a found family while confronting a harsh landscape of freedom and cruelty in the American West.

Finished it yesterday. Pretty good overall. Easy watch to get through. 8 eps at 29 - 35 minutes each. It's an amusing show and deliberately NOT laugh out loud funny. There are a few moments I played back though and got a real laugh out of.

From what I gather it was primarily filmed in Seattle and Vancouver, as I recognized some shooting locations. Especially so for Vancouver in the finale with English Bay, Yaletown, and downtown.

I mentioned it to my mom as I might save the series for her, and noted it was based on an Aussie original. She just texted me to say the Aussie version is available on TUBI currently for those who check out this U.S. version and want to circle back to the first version of it.
