A DC basic income program is letting people choose the amount on their checks. A participant said $1,400 a month is what she needs to pay medical bills.

A DC basic income program lets participants choose their monthly payment amounts, no-strings-attached. The CashRx pilot by Bread for the City aims to improve health outcomes for low-income residents. Deborah Ogarro Kelly, a participant, is using the money to afford medicine and rent.

Michael Tubbs, former mayor of Stockton, California, co-founded a coalition of cities and counties who support guaranteed income programs.

Alien: Romulus director, Fede Álvarez, aims to bring back incompetent horror characters, reviving a hated aspect of Prometheus. Álvarez wants the heroes of Alien: Romulus to be inexperienced and relatable, unlike the tough characters of previous films. While introducing inexperienced protagonists could be a fresh take, Alien: Romulus risks leaning into the tired trope of clueless horror heroes.

South Africa could be the first-ever country to provide a no-strings-attached universal basic income

Universal basic income has wide support in South Africa. South Africa's largest political party recently pledged to make it a reality. The country is ranked as one of the worst countries in terms of income inequality.

Denver gave people experiencing homelessness $1,000 a month. A year later, nearly half of participants had housing.

The Denver Basic Income Project helped participants secure housing and full-time jobs. The pilot program provided direct cash payments to over 800 Coloradans experiencing homelessness. Results showed 45% of participants secured housing, while $589,214 was saved in public service costs.

2 St. Louis, MO. residents are suing the city's basic-income program in an attempt to halt what they call 'unconstitutional' $500 monthly payments to low-income families

The lawsuit alleges that it's unconstitutional for St. Louis to use public money on basic income.

This state just inched closer to giving every resident a $750 universal basic income each year with no strings attached

UBI advocates in Oregon say they collected enough signatures to get the measure on the ballot.
The first-of-its-kind initiative would give each resident $750 a year by taxing corporations.
Basic income programs throughout the country have delivered promising results.

The plot of a new Fox animated comedy series is about a guy who gets a $3,000 monthly 'universal basic income'

Fox will release "Universal Basic Guys," a new animated series, this fall. The show satirizes universal basic income. It stars two brothers in a $3,000-a-month program. While basic income programs have become popular in the US, they are not without detractors.

Artists in New York got $1,000 monthly through a basic income program. One participant used the money to pay bills and afford healthcare.

Creatives Rebuild New York gave 2,400 artists $1,000 monthly for 18 months in a basic income program. The program aimed to help New York artists financially recover from the pandemic. Guaranteed income programs are being piloted across the US as an approach to poverty reduction.

How AI And Robot Job Displacements Could Lead Us Down The Road Of Universal Basic Income And Loss Of Identity

While AI and robotics will undoubtedly change the nature of work, it's unlikely that these technologies will eradicate the existence of all jobs. The focus will likely shift toward human-AI collaboration and jobs requiring uniquely human skills. The future of work could involve a combination of paid employment, universal basic income and a renewed focus on finding meaning and fulfillment outside of traditional work structures.

City of St. Louis will ‘follow judge’s order’ to pause guaranteed basic income program

St. Louis City Mayor Tishaura Jones has released a statement after a judge issued a temporary restraining order on the guaranteed basic income program. “It’s just outrageous that the judge is going to do that. St. Louis has plenty of money. They can help somebody,” said resident Gary McClendon. “We continue to take away resources rather than support our citizens here and that’s not going to fix anything in this city,” resident Ro Kicker said.

Sam Altman's basic-income study is out. Here's what it found.

The results of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman's guaranteed-basic-income study are in. Overall spending increased, but most of the extra cash went to food and rent. Recipients experienced decreased financial stress, but that faded over time, the study found.

Vinod Khosla says universal basic income may be needed as AI takes over jobs and drives wealth disparity

Silicon Valley investor Vinod Khosla says AI will handle 80% of work in 80% of jobs. Khosla argues AI will reduce labor value, making expertise nearly free and driving down costs. He said the resulting disruptions to the labor market help make the case for universal basic income.

Universal Basic Income—Not the Panacea It’s Advertised As

A recent UBI experiment has given us some real-world results. The findings from three new studies of the Texas and Illinois UBI programs clearly demonstrate the pitfalls of UBI. With federal spending already astronomically high and employment inordinately low, America cannot afford a costly UBI proposal that would just make matters worse.

you would have to look at how they did the study..

More than 800 people were selected to participate in the Denver Basic Income Project while they were living on the streets, in shelters, on friends’ couches or in vehicles. They were separated into three groups. Group A received $1,000 per month for a year. Group B received $6,500 the first month and $500 for the next 11 months. And group C, the control group, received $50 per month.

About 45% of participants in all three groups were living in a house or apartment that they rented or owned by the study’s 10-month check-in point, according to the research. The number of nights spent in shelters among participants in the first and second groups decreased by half. And participants in those two groups reported an increase in full-time work, while the control group reported decreased full-time employment.

The project also saved tax dollars, according to the report. Researchers tallied an estimated $589,214 in savings on public services, including ambulance rides, visits to hospital emergency departments, jail stays and shelter nights.

The $9.4 million project was funded by a mix of public and private money, including $1.5 million from The Colorado Trust and $2 million from the city of Denver’s pot of federal pandemic relief money. The University of Denver’s Center for Housing and Homelessness Research collected personal stories from the participants and studied the outcomes of the project. (The Colorado Trust funds a reporting position at The Colorado Sun.)

I'm assuming the people in groups A and B found the most help..vs group C. But there are a bunch of other factors to consider as well but generally the program actually helped people.
And? The advocates for UBI are liberal or communist. So?
The social contract of a society is to help its people. Allowing homelessness is a break in that social contract and its a detriment to society as a whole. Conservatives have a habit of saying no rather than saying heres an alternative. The funny part about Obamacare was that it was taken from the conservatives alternate proposal that was given in the early 90s mainly to kill Hillarycare. So when that plan came back 10 years later..they said no to that...this time with no alternative..so americans can just die in the streets for all they care....God Bless America right?

Disagree. The social contract is the criminal code. However, over time, socialists have been lobbying to expand it to what we see now. To compel one to support another is slavery. Plain and simple. Having a welfare state “is just slavery with extra steps” (got that from Rick and Morty). There’s nothing stopping you and millions of others from cooperating and starting a charity. Shit, the only time the government won’t dig in your pockets is when you are being charitable. But, it’s not really about helping others, it’s about the control of others. Also, I did read the study. And your attempt at shaming and guilting doesn’t work on me. Once again, where’s your money, care and organization for these people you allegedly care about? Conservative people are more charitable than liberals. I’m not going for the nonsense.

prison is just plain slavery straight up... its not about correction or rehabilitation which is why recidivism is so high. You treat people like animals and they start acting like it. And thats definitely about controlling people.

and that bootstrap shit is just that...:bullshit:

The joke of it all is that whites have been getting govt handouts and handups since the beginning. from

* The 1790 Naturalization Act permitted only "free white persons" to become naturalized citizens

* White Americans were also given a head start with the help of the U.S. Army. The 1830 Indian Removal Act to make room for white settlers.

* The 1862 Homestead Act followed suit, literally giving away millions of acres of what had been Indian Territory west of the Mississipp to private hands, overwhelmingly white, under Homestead Act provisions.

* In the South, instead of giving freed slaves "40 acres and a mule" as reparations. Government officials paid up to $300 per slave upon emancipation - not to the slaves, but to local slaveholders as compensation for loss of property.

* Jim Crow laws

* The landmark Social Security Act of 1935 provided a safety net for millions of workers, guaranteeing them an income after retirement. But the act specifically excluded two occupations: agricultural workers and domestic servants, who were predominately African American, Mexican, and Asian.

* New Deal program, the Federal Housing Administration, that helped generate much of the wealth that so many white families enjoy today. Between 1934 and 1962, the federal government backed $120 billion of home loans. More than 98% went to whites.

* Servicemen's Readjustment Act of 1944, the G.I. Bill 's language did not specifically exclude African-American veterans from its benefits, it was structured in a way that ultimately shut doors for the 1.2 million Black veterans who had bravely served their country during World War II, in segregated ranks.

* Like Social Security, the 1935 Wagner Act helped establish an important new right for white people. By granting unions the power of collective bargaining, it helped millions of white workers gain entry into the middle class over the next 30 years. Many craft unions remained nearly all-white well into the 1970s.

1790 to 1970...180 years of affirmative action and hand outs for whites at the expense of others. Seem to me the govt been giving hand outs for a long time didn't hear any conservative outcry about boot strapping and being self reliability then. And we havent touched on red lining and the war on drugs and skewed judicial system etc etc etc.

Yeah I know I threw race into the mix but thats what american society is....class and race. The fact that poor whites suffer only shows how poor whites consistently vote against their best interests and we're really going to see it at play big time when president musk gets going.

Typical liberal lies. Conservatives were heavily against the New Deal. The racism in the new deal was done by the Roosevelt Administration. Get your facts straight. And, by your thinking, once wrong is done, it's good to keep going ? Goofy logic. Like I've said on this board for two decades, liberals have no problem with tyranny, they just want to be the tyrant. I also noticed how you conveniently ignored the capacity for you to do for your fellow man. It's because you don't or can't. It's not my job to do what makes YOU feel good about yourself. And to your "outrage" gaslighting. I'm just giving it how I'm getting it. Don't be mad like a girl who isn't used to a man talking like a man. Speak cool to me, and I'll do the same. If not...

I dont care what political party it was...black AMERICANS got screwed regardless by the exclusion which means that white americans benefitted on BOTH SIDES of the aisle... conservative and liberal. From post Depression on thru WW2, the white middle class FLOURISHED.

The Servicemen's Readjustment Act of 1944, the G.I. Bill 's language did not specifically exclude African-American veterans from its benefits, it was structured in a way that ultimately shut doors for the 1.2 million Black veterans who had bravely served their country during World War II, in segregated ranks. The original GI Bill ended in July 1956. By that time, nearly 8 million World War II veterans had received education or training, and 4.3 million home loans worth $33 billion had been handed out. But most Black veterans had been left behind. As employment, college attendance and wealth surged for whites, disparities with their Black counterparts not only continued but widened. There was no greater instrument for widening an already huge racial gap in postwar America than the GI Bill.

All with the help of the GUBMENT. You wanna talk about gaslighting...that generation has the gaul to claim they did it on their own!

Its been proven thru out american history that private charities dont have the reach or ability to affect the citizens in the way the Fed/state/local govt can and HAVE. So miss me with that bootstrap/taking food off my plate BS.
