What's funny/stupid about Trump's big tariff push is that if he were genuinely interested in reverting manufacturing back to the US, it might not be the worst idea. As it is, he is basically using one of the better tools to encourage that as a bully stick to create an environment that neither he nor the business that use imported goods want to create. Keeping in mind that it was the corporations themselves that farmed all of this production outside the country in order to save on costs/labor.
Keep hope alive, i guess. As someone pointed out earlier in the thread, certain stuff like lumber, we don't have, the trees are all in Canada and other places. If it was about bringing manufacturing back, he wouldn't be undoing the chips act.
The countries that need stuff from us are not bending or waiting for us to act right. They are seeking out new suppliers. Farmers hadn't recovered the markets lost the last time he was in office and started tariff wars and on top of markets lost abroad, thanks to Elon they aren't selling at home to supply food banks, schools, or USAID and also aren't getting grants and subsidies because DOGE canceled them. Its going to be a land grab for big agricultural businesses.
There are 3 possibilities IMO, 1) he's doing Putin's bidding to weaken the US. 2) He's doing the bidding of the people around him to implement Project 25 to uphold white and Christian nationalism and target Blk ppl and other PoC in the process 3) He's wants to declare martial law to stay in power, avoid jail and enrich himself. Or all 3 at the same time.
He's cunning, devious, and has a knack for appealing to racists, poor white trash, weak Black men, and PoC who want to prove they are the good immigrants who have a WS mindset and therefore deserve to be here, coupled with an incentive to stay out of jail at the expense of all of us and democracy, but beyond the mobster like intimidation, many of the actions he is taking are beyond his intellectual capacity. He can't even explain most of it. He sounds like a five year old who trying to explain the gist of a plot to a 4 hour college documentary that he feel asleep to or played through half the time. It's all above his understanding to begin with, and little if any of what he is doing is his idea.
