You co-signed a defense of America's white supremacist middle east policy on the basis of resentment of American advocates.
I draw a distinction between the Palestinians in Gaza and the people, some of who were agitators, protesting here in America. The people in Gaza wanted Harris or a dem president. Their
only hope was Harris or a dem president. When Harris first got the nomination and had a surge of support, Netanyahu started to come to the table for a cease fire deal, but then blew it up after Trump reached out to him and convinced him to hold out. If you'll recall, I was against Biden stepping down. You and I went back and forth about it a time or two. When I saw the surge of support, I thought maybe I was wrong and a Harris nomination would be a good thing because it energized the voters, but no, even though Harris ran an wonderful campaign, Biden should have stayed in, IMO.
I'm not mad at the protestors, though the people of Gaza probably should be. It saddens me that they have no help coming because neither Trump or the GOP gives a dam about them or anyone who isn't a rich white man or a person they can benefit from. Dems were never going to go back on an agreement made to an ally. They did their best to give humanitarian aid and limit the damage Israel could do, but ultimately they are a sovereign country. Now Israel has more money, more powerful weapons, the blessing of the POTUS to wipe them out, and we aren't going to be taking any of the refugees in and protestors can't be heard or advocate for Gaza because they will be targeted for deportation or as a terroist sympathizer.
Places like Dearborn/Dearborn Heights went FOR Trump. Harris got 36%, Trump 42, and the rest were 3rd party. So they got what they voted for. I'm just sad the people of Gaza are the ones who have to pay the price while the people who voted from the comfort of the US, many of whom are still in the comfort of the US, at least until Trump finds a way to deport them, get to hold on to their self righteousness that is benefiting no one. They are unserious people. Just like the don't vote, vote Bernie, JIll or third party dissenters of 2016, they thought they were going to be able to vote for Trump and have the rest of the state or the rest of the country cover their vote so they could be self righteous and yet have the benefit of a dem win that would keep their dem protections and dem policies in place. Surely, after seeing the damage Trump did the first time, the rest of the country wouldn't vote for him a second time, when there were fewer guardrails, no adults in the room, and when he had already said Israel could raze Gaza to the ground? Others said it didn't matter who was president, we had survived him the first time, we'd survive him again.
FAFO is real. I'm not happy about it, though. I'm not celebrating it or the people getting hurt, even if it is MAGA folk. I'm not one of the people ok with suffering as long as someone I don't like is suffering worse.
The protestors wanted Black people to sit out or vote Trump/3rd party to punish dems, when we knew what a second Trump presidency would lead to, for both us and them. They were warned that if Harris didn't win what the consequences would be. That we would ALL be screwed. They were mad at us because esssentially we were not willing to to suffer in solidarity or virtue signal alongside them when our quality of life and freedoms were on the line. So now they have what they voted for - dems have no power. They can't help us. They can't help them. We have to hope the courts keep the country together and that the judges ruling against Trump don't get impeached.
So tell me, now that they got who they voted for, how are things better or different for Gaza now than they would have been under Harris?
