Was 2Pac Bigger Than Snoop In His Prime??

It can't be denied Snoop was monstrous when Doggystyle dropped. However, in hip hop circles the anticipation for Nas was just as big with Source and legends hyping him up as the next Rakim. Snoops advantage was being on Dre' s album.

Glasses Malone I don't think he is looking at this from a global outlook. Snoop had the bigger anticipation for album, but Pac in Juice was totally different.

When Pac went to jail and dropped MATW that was crazy too. IMO, 2pac wins this question. Snoop also fell off drastically too and there was a reason Suge was on Pac heavy when he arrived on deathrow. He had the rock star movie star aura to transcend the labels exposure in Hollywood.

Snoop was a beast though in 93.

Country Grammer-era Nelly is like 1/4 of what it was like when “Who am I?” Came out. Like the ni99a said you’d have to compare it to maybe 50, Eminem, or Drake in terms of his initial impact. I still don’t think any of them came out of the gate as strong as Snoop, though.
Only 50 and the rest of G Unit compared...Eminem might have in the "mainstream" world but Snoop was everywhere "mainstream" and otherwise

the Academy dgaf about what YOU’VE seen or think.

its not up to you, me, or our culture, its up to them. and have a history of not recognizing our talents.

?????

He got a lot of actual respect in Hollywood for his acting in Gridlock’d and gang related. His performance in Gridlock’d was the the one that would have put him into more indie movies. But the man died like 4 months before the flick dropped. He never got a chance to hear what people thought of his work.

mase n puff was def as big or bugger than snoop or dre
Same situationa well known producer with fresh new talent. No arguing that

My original point was more directed at 50 not snoop

Snoop and Tha Dogg Pound changed the game. They were just so laid back. 2Pac was just so hard hitting and relentless they just took a backseat to Pac. They had no choice. Pac just had major star power and his work ethic and music backed it up. It’s kind of like Snoop and Pac were in two different eras almost even though they overlapped. Snoop came along in the 40 & a blunt, grunge era and Pac helped usher in the bling era. Pac became bigger though.

I still remember popping in All eyez on me and The Chronic and Doggystyle. Man! Talk about good music you can ride to all weekend long. Man!

I dont agree with some of the points made in the video...but as far as hype etc....no...92 to 94 Snoop mania was crazy and the anticipation around the Doggystyle album was next level....it would take until the early 2000's with 50 Cent and G Unit before that level of anticipation was out there for an album
I think you forget the 2nd wu album.... The anticipation for that was crazy... It juss didn't live up to the hype

Agree with everything you said. But, I think the next level of anticipation was Wu-Tang Forever. It may not count for your point because that was a sophomore album. As an introduction craze I will say DMX It’s Dark and Hell is Hot.

Nonetheless, you are spot on to what Snoop was and Pac not.

Wu 2nd album, Biggie second joint, Illmatic....they definitely were some that had big anticipation....I just dont think any of them quite reached Snoop's level as far as the entire country....Snoop had the feeling of a movement because it basically was G funk taking over....G unit had that same movement feeling...Wu tang (and dipset as well) was definitely a movement but I dont think Wu was as popular everywhere in the country like Snoop was

So those people never saw juice or above the rim? Not even poetic justice? Never heard of Pac come on dude was in a few hood classics plus he starred next to Janet Jackson in a flick... I remember that was a big thing for females to see Janet Jackson in a movie

I was in my early 20's and I remembered that time very well. Pac was bigger than Snoop. Then Biggie came, BIG was bigger than Snoop. I love Snoop but he wasn't bigger than Pac or BIG.

Tupac was a Jordan, Snoop was just a Pippen.

That is actually giving Snoop too much credit (and Pippen too little). Tupac as a Kobe and Snoop as a Pau Gasol seems more accurate.

As far as dating Tupac's prime, it extends well past his death. If we define prime as peak popularity & influence, Tupac had a postmortem prime (which is the best kind).

Pac prime was from when he dropped 2pacalypse now in 91 to when he died in 96.
That dogg father album almost killed snoop career in 96 lol.

Before prison Snoop was bigger than Pac after prison Pac took the game over.

:itsawrap:

Snoop and the dogg pound are the reason the west coast took over the rap game from the east during the 90's period. The influence of snoop and the dogg pound had east coast niggas like Pac not only claiming the west but dying to be on death row records and be apart of the west coast lifestyle.

Tupac may have been around longer than Biggie and Snoop but both had instant super star fame the first time they hit the scene, it took pac years of grinding to match their instant success and album sales. pac was known but he wasn't selling albums like neither of the two until the MATW album his first platinum of his many albums.

Part of that albums success came from Pac being locked up and most never thinking he wasn't getting out but once folks seen how fire the album was, peeps anticipation and hopes of him getting out grew even more.

Part of his beef with Big was because of big's success, that's why pac would tell anyone who's listen that big slept on his couch and stole his style etc. pac couldn't fathom Big coming out the gate blowing up like he did. Pac already knew Snoop was the Big artist on death row when he arrived so now it's competition with snoop too which pac ultimately won kind of.

daughter hell he was in the media more than snoop dog was for various reason plus his movies plus his tv show appearance (different world) he had numerous celebrities friends and he was known on both coast (east and west) he roamed both coast. Snoop dog fell off a bit after doggystyle and didn't start getting his buzz again till Master P signed him! I remember people back then rocking the tie beenies because of what 2pac wore + the bandanas!

I don't know what some of these dudes talking about, Me Against the World was the #1 album when Pac was locked up.

In music, no. Snoop first album was epic. Culturally, Pac is the clear winner. His music has a greater influence on the culture.

But the double cd was ok at best. Would have been one goooood album.

Ooooohhhhhh..... have to disagree slightly; it was a great double album that would have been a classic if it was one album.

Ambitionz As A Rider is one of the hardest lead off track in rap history.
