Snoop prime was 93/94 , 2pac prime was 95/96

People forget snoop dropped this album in 96 same year as all eyez on me

220px-Tha-doggfather.jpg

The album debuted at number one during the week of November 12, 1996, selling over 420,000 copies, but it failed to match the commercial success of Doggystyle.[1]Dr. Dre had left Death Row to his partner Suge Knight, who was indicted for racketeering by the end of 1996. Tha Doggfather was also released only one week after another Death Row release, the first posthumous album by 2Pac, The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory, which debuted at number one. Consequently, Snoop's second album stalled at sales of two million copies.

This is why I mentioned Doggfather. Glasses Malone can't just ignore when Pac got locked up and dropped MATW. Then after that All Eyez On Me and during this time Snoop was obviously slipping to Pac. It is also why I posted that video about Snoop vs Pac. There was tension at Deathrow. Pac took the unknown producers that was mocked as the wack room and got hits like Hail Mary out of them and then Snoop supposedly was upset that Pac was hogging their production after the fact.

If Snoop was so much bigger than Pac as Malone is saying, then why was there tension with Pac and Snoop about Pac taking over Deathrow? Pac was the bigger star that's why. He was the guy that was signed to Interscope and not under deathrow initially that was under Interscope.

Glasses Malone is doing revisionist history from just a local perspective. Pac going to Deathrow was Interscope getting rid of a headache in their mind. It was like a demotion.

With I Wanna Thank Me on the horizon, Snoop Dogg is back with another single off his upcoming seventeenth album.

After kicking things off with the title track and rocking a “Countdown” with Swizz Beatz, the Left Coast legend keeps it rocking with a third single.

On “Let Bygones Be Bygones,” Snoop reminisces on his Death Row days as he salutes Suge Knight, recalls getting 2Pac signed, and much more.

Short but sweet, the Battlecat-laced track can be heard below.

Snoop had one album that was like the Chronic 2 and with that did for him is something that only happens once in a blue,he got lucky but no one wants to hear his new shit or the shit he did with Nolimit but I understand he doesn't get a dime from it so he had to move on.

but he isn't and never will be bigger than pac but he's alive so

I still feel this is a ridiculous question.

Its called a prime for a reason

And they both were incomparable

Because of cd sales tv music video touring magazines radio overseas and the very beginnings of the internet

Its almost impossible to quantify

But Tupac was such an urban legend at that point and please don't dismiss the fact that Pac was a sex symbol and his ability to speak with such conviction

Its just DIFFERENT

its Pac Snoop Biggie Jay DMX 50 Cent Eminem...

We may NEVER EVER see those levels of dominance in hip hop again.

One could argue...

Nas never had such a moment?

I actually think the peak was with Pac and Big with that whole east coast west coast hype. It took all the different regions to the next level mainstream wise. Even Outkast at the Source Awards got the south on the map with it.

The new era though some may argue that Drake may be just as big(imo he isn't, but I have seent his argued due to his long dominance on charts). I don't know how historically how guys of this era will be seen with the ease of digital downloads and so on.

The argument will also be Drake competed with the likes of GOATS such as MJ and Beatles on Billboard charts.
Then again this all depends if one counts Drake as a rapper or rapper /singer.

Well, Snoop did make a big comeback with Pharrell which reminded people of ol' Snoop of Deathrow Doggystyle days.

that album that pac used the producers from the wack room dropped after his death. and that 7 day theory album was orginally going to be a street album. in 1993 snoop sold 800k off doggystyle it's 1st week. and another 800k the 2nd week. the murder charge put more exposure on snoop as well.

that being said...

what Snoop has accomplished as a former gang member gansta rapper tried for murder?

And become a complete cross over beloved icon of ALL ages?

almost family friendly?

And STILL make music

Is AMAZING.

I do NOT think Pac could have accomplished THAT image wise.

I don’t think he could accomplish it either since he’s dead. But he lived who knows? Look at ice cube.

Imagine Pac used the "wack room" and got 7 Day Theory album out of it. Producer Kurt Kobane talks about Deathrow days with Snoop and Pac.

Snoop had the higher peak. The hype when Doggystyle dropped was unprecedented. But then he fizzled a bit shortly after after Deathrow folded. Only Fiddy's GRODT comes close.

Much of Pac's fame came AFTER death, contrary to popular belief. Sure, he had movie roles & whatnot, but dude was more of a jester, known for his antics, rather than his acumen.
Similar to how Rodman stayed in the news around the same time. The "beef" and eventual death immortalized his legacy like no other.

See I have to disagree here. Snoop was HUGE and no way that could be argued for 1993. Being outside of LA and New York and looking at it without those scopes and yes a lot of Pac's fame increased after his death, but it also happened because people went back and watched his body of work.

Snoop fizzled out because his body of work didn't and doesn't hold up to Pac's. As for Pac being seen as more of a jester than Snoop? I don't know about that. Snoop got a lot of hype through Dr. Dre just like 50 did which is ironic with what you stated about Doggystyle and GRODT. It was also at a time when the west coast was starting to kill it for hip hop under Dr. Dre before guys like Nas was seen as the Messiah in 1994 for NY.

Pac and Snoop were in the media just the same for the "jester" stuff you accuse Pac of.

While the image of Snoop was what you see above in 1993, below is the same year Pac was doing speeches at black conventions.

This is why the feds were documenting Tupac's moves and you would not see "this Pac" in the media or masses. Then fast forward 2 years later in 1995.

So there was a switch here as Pac came out in 95 for his case and Snoop was mired in his case, by 1996 Tupac was ahead of Snoop on his own label where jealousy started to occur because Suge was now rolling with Pac more because he had more of that "Rock Star/Movie Star" appeal for that mainstream crossover.
