Weight Loss/get in better shape journey thread

I'm a couple of years younger than you, last weighed in at 192 and 3 mile runs are my thing... I had a 7:59 today and a 7:39 yesterday.

(The zone minutes discrepancy is because my phone tracked it today but my watch died mid-run.)

I wonder if I could hit 7:00 if I tried my hardest. I never sprint-- My main goal is to get through the whole 3.5 miles or so without walking at all, which I've been failing at lately.

I think I'd probably do much worse overall if I got closer to 7 but I might give it a shot one day this month. I value my overall time most-- today's 8:39 average with a slower top time beats the hell out of 9:11 yesterday with a slightly better start.

That’s excellent.

I worry about pushing myself too hard because I don’t want to get injured. Recently, I have upped my mileage to a 10k and making sure to complete that under an hour.

I see you like to burn you calories to star off. I do my fastest running on the last mile of my runs.

If I did what you are doing, I’d never complete my runs. Lol. My energy would be too depleted and I would definitely would be at a higher risk of injury.

As said earlier, weight loss can be simple. Stay away from anything that begins it's life as "white". Potatoes, sugar, white flour and corn. These are the building blocks of carbohydrates and starches and those food are nothing but empty calories for your body.

Remember the rule and stay away from anything white and you should begin to see results quickly.

Man, I need all that as a runner. I burn so many calories during a run, it doesn’t take much for me to tap out of energy.

Carbs for energy and protein for muscle building. My energy depletion runs usually consist of a salad the night before. The next day I’ll run at least 3 miles at a high pace. The last mile I turn up. By the time I finish my heart rate is up to 175 bpm sustained for at least 1.5 minutes. As soon as I stop, it feels like I can barely catch my breath, but it’s one of the liveliest feelings to have when you push your body’s energy capacity.

I can burn 1 to 4 pounds in a single 26 minute run.
Yeah he's 275 tho. I've been there and he ain't running no 7 minute mile yet lol.

It's not so much that I like to burn calories to start off as that's when I'm most capable. I usually drink two cups of coffee and blast off naturally, whereas going hard in that homestretch takes a lot of mental determination and the body has to be willing.

What type of injury are you worried about? The 12 pound weight gain I had this year was mostly because I had to stop running to let my knees heal. I run with sleeves on and luckily there has been no sign of trouble.

2023: Good first three months, stayed between 192 and 197. Mid-April was the start of a bad streak-- I was overeating and I stopped running due to knee issues. I consciously took a break, thinking it would set me up for longer term success if I let my body heal. Didn't weigh myself for a month and was up to 208 by the end of May. Ended June at 209. Got back out there in July, ended the month at 198. Ended August back at 192. Range: 17 pounds.

Groin injuries. That’s my main one and it always happens one my first half mile if I start off too fast. My body needs time to flow. I do little stretching and warming up, so with that in mind, my first mile is generally my slowest.

These hot temps lately have zapped some motivation though. I got to get six miles in before Sunday to keep my 6 miles a week streak going.

Well didn't go to the gym, my coach told me to get rest and hydrate
Glad I did
Wrestling class was brutal. 2 hours of body movement drills, multiple push up variations (500 total push ups) drills with other people's weight on us. And you think you're in shape until the last part of class is rolling. My shirt is soaked but I feel great

Had a set back this past week. I realize I'm a stress eater. Add on this medication I'm taking coupled with a few manic episodes and I got all the way up to 275 again:fuckyousay:

But I'm back on track. Drinking nothing but water, beet juice and cherry juice working out more

Had a knee injury in the spring so I'm just getting back at it. Trying non impact cardio (elliptical, row, bike, walking) 5 days a week. Maybe some basketball mixed in if my knee is feeling good.
Weight lifting those days too. Need to drop 15lbs that I packed on while being injured.
And I eat clean except for when the Steelers are playing :)

Did a 7:35 mile on my third mile yesterday. That shit hurt like hell, but it felt good.

I definitely have not hit that on mile 3...

Tuesday was my worst performance in a while-- I took a couple of days off and I never do as well on my first day:

IMG-1113.png

Came back stronger than I expected last night-- No walk breaks, thought I toughed it out for a full four miles but turns out I stopped just short :smh:

IMG-1114.png

I'd be very happy getting mile 3 below 8 minutes, not gonna hit 7:35 anytime soon!

I do sugar free Gatorade NEVER drank sodas, cut out red meat only lamb
Butter -olive oil, gotta get more pink salt though

Sugar free anything is garbage. All that shit is chemicals that make it taste sweet.

Your best bet is water/seltzer with lemon.

Sugar free is a marketing tactic by the corporations. Those chemicals are no good for your system.

Same thing as "flushable wipes". Yeah they flush down the toilet, but they're HORRIBLE for your plumbing/septic system. Keeps plumbers in business year around.

Man that wrestling ain't no joke. Had me cut up lean in HS. Best strength & conditioning I ever did. Only thing that comes close is boxing, but I never competed in the ring.
