What's a good state for regular folks that don't make alot of money?

All of the place you mention are in the south.

If you are not expecting much from yourself, which your original
post seems to indicate, then just throw a dart at a map. Anywhere in the
south will likely get you what you want.

If you are quite young, which I suspect, and I were in your shoes, I would avoid the
south like the plague. And you would be avoiding the plague, actually.

Southern black people are still in 1965. My uncle kept telling me that when I first visited Mississippi.
I could not understand what he meant a first. A week or so later, there was no doubt.

Reasons: The south is super religious. Religion and common sense do not always get along.

Slavery. Supposedly over long ago, it still exists, on a psychological level. Be prepared for the first
20 something year old person to say: " you gotta dance to the tune the white man is playin'" or the
ever present " they (white folks) ain't gonna let you do nothin' like that".

Hatred of city people. Self explanatory. Trade in your BMW for a stake truck with velvet interior.

Prepare to make cutting the grass the high point of your week. This is provided you manage to survive.

As an alternative...why not consider someplace with some kind of culture that did not come out of Gone with the Wind
or Sounder?

If you gotta be south, Baltimore is a rough city, but 40 miles from DC, which is a great city. You can also get to any place in
the world from Bmore, trains, long distance buses, subway, all at your fingertips.

If I had another 40 years to spend, Bmore is about the closed south I would be. Culture is on the coasts. If you really want to live
like you are in the 3rd world, skip the south, get a passport, and go to Central or South America, or even the DR.
.
You can live very well in a few countries for less that 20K. Finding work would be hard, but you can always teach English.

Going to Atlanta is a lot like going to Detroit. Half of Detroit seems to live there now. This is not a good thing.

But the states you mentioned should just get together and form the nation of Dumbfuckistan.

I would take my chances damn near anywhere else.
Dang bro. You must have had a horrible experience.

In reality though, all parts of the south are not the same. Some bad, some good, just like up north.

Contrary, to your suggestion, I would never advise anyone trying to start over to do so in Baltimore. It's cool if you have a career, but starting over at zero?? Naw brah.

Go to western N.Y. or Mass., and report back to us. Btw, take your chances in Iowa or eastern Washington or Oregon, and let us know how that works out.

I'm gonna take a road trip to Georgia and Alabama and see how things go. I need a change to see if my luck changes.

Yeah. Don't fuck up and go to NY man. Shit expensive out there. If I were u I'd go downstairs or to a state that has a small population. Vermont, or something like that

Seems like you're hustling backwards by the way. Don't move to a new state without employment lined up first. Assuming you have savings, you will blow through it quickly just living day to day if you don't have income.

Hiring is virtual at the jobs I mentioned earlier. Get hired over Zoom first then set up living arrangements...you have a car so do Doordash on the side if nothing else.

See if you can make enough where you can save one paycheck and invest the other, or do that with your Doordash income. 6 months down the line you should be off probabation at your job and have full benefits.

Get your mind prepared for college and enroll...take a couple classes and see how you do. Work your way up to full time hours. You ain't the first and won't be the last in this situation. You can do this.

IF IT IS TO BE IT IS UP TO ME!

I'll never do NYC, not in a million years...

Vermont seems okay, somewhere quiet with the opportunity... I do have sickle cell and that cold could be a problem alone.

I'm gonna do security temporarily, it can pay for a room and put gas in my car and I should get between 13-15 an hour to start. I have little bills so it makes sense, then I can work my way up. Since I'm not a resident of whatever state I go to I gotta wait a year for resident tuition rates.

The goal is somewhere cheap and do the basics to survive, Warner-Robbins seems pretty good it's mostly white black, and some Asian folks but it looks pretty quiet and boring which is kinda good.

I still want to do Tallahassee and see what it is, but the graduation rate is like 50% bachelors... I don't know if that makes sense since it's not a dumb population at all. Jacksonville is to ghetto and too spread out I'm still deciding

Most medical professionals know nothing about it, most of us don't have insurance "black" and it ain't profitable like cancer.

I can't even remember the number of doctors who stopped doing it and moved on to more lucrative procedures and specialties. No money in it, they don't care.

That's a death sentence

If there is a substantial black population you can find treatment especially in the hospitals...

crime is specific to neighborhood so that shouldn't even be included unless you live in the hood.

How about Delaware and West Virginia?
Two states outside of high population states/cities with high incomes.

Actually, most black medical professionals are aware of SCD. I have mentioned numerous times throughout my years on this forum that I sat on the state SCD Board for a number of years. The conundrum surrounding SCD is multi-faceted. As someone mentioned, there is little money in a real cure for SCD because the ones affected in the US and Africa are black. Additionally, for the pharma companies that are conducting research, it is virtually impossible to get people to volunteer for studies. We are skeptical, as we should be, but we will never move forward with a real SCD cure if we do not participate in the studies. We cannot have it both ways. Lastly, black folk have to be more responsible regarding creating children with SCD. People can be, should be, and used to be tested for SCD before they got married. However, we fought to eliminate that. Plus over 70% of black children are born to single mothers, so there is no marriage anyway. Lastly, one of the biggest factors for the lack of medical treatment nationally is due to the people making the decisions within the hospitals. There are very few of us who are black and senior executives in healthcare. This is where the policies, the direction of the hospital system, and the focus of the mission is determined. This is why I STRESS that we need more black doctors and more black healthcare executives. Some people on BGOL would lead you to believe that being a doctor isn't a big deal and that you should not encourage your children to pursue the career. I disagree.

It is important to know if you are carrier. Most people are only concerned if they have the disease. But, knowing if one carries the trait is equally important. This information is rarely shared with the child UNLESS there are adverse affects re;ated to being a carrier of the trait.

Security is dead end job. You can get promoted in 90 days in insurance working claims.

Also you aren't gonna have your tuition paid for working security. Probably very crappy health insurance too.

I think you are selling yourself short but you sound like your mind is made up so best of luck to you.

So what are you saying you can't make a comparison between the two states ?
compare specific neighborhoods would be better. CA not as safe as Alabama. but living in Beverly Hills is better than living in South Mobile, Alabama.

The rich are super safe here. To say California is dangerous is disingenuous.

You cats thinking racism only exist in "red states" are in for a rude awakening. Racism exists wherever white people are. Like Brother Malcolm said, everything below Canada is "down south", but hey, y'all keep rolling with that "red state" narrative. :smh:

And last I heard, Black folks up North may not be too welcoming either. Quick to call someone a bama cause they didn't grow up listening to the sound of gunfire every night.

Huh? Who told you that? I stay close and have stayed in PS and Austell, chilled in other areas almost daily. It's very nice and you don't have a lot of stupidity. I20 is less than 10-15 min give or take. Marietta and Smyrna same thing. You have access to everything you need including grocer stores and Farmers Markets. What area you in?

I got this rare form of sickle cell that limits physical work, I can't do labor jobs I will end up in the hospital, thanks for this though. If I didn't have this problem I would have become a trucker but my physical limitations are a problem.

Okay well here's the issue.

I have little education and also of mental issues, my parents can't get along and my dad hates my mom for how my life came out, I have no kids and I'm over 40 so I'm depressed and I know most of my family feels sorry for me. everyone blames my mother for my issues, they say she babied me and controlled my life.

The real issue is I have an issue making money every job I work nothing connects it's never any advancement, it's just either I quit or I get fired and I'm back at square one I have also depression I deal with because I'm always sad.

Looking back at my post history when I spoke politics I kinda leaned my right because I feel they give people like me more cover, lower-income dudes who are black we at least we have each other and we could get something back from each other, I felt the left was too much into class and of course I couldn't play that game at all.

I'm old now I don't know how an old man finishing school competition with 25-year-olds will work in a competitive field like IT or something, maybe a waste of time so I said this probably is the best bet for me, I need to feel better about myself and I will do whatever but I can't stay here in this city living how I live, I try really hard but it's what's on paper and ain't shit really there.

I actually have good credit and drive an old honda that's reliable, with little bills and I never defaulted on my loans but my issue is I can't make money for shit and I'm going crazy. I kinda wanna run away like a teenager and start life over LOL, I really want to do this...

For instance IT, I try hard but I'm still pursuing the CCNA, I took dudes class on BGOL last year July and I never passed it yet it's some much information I'm still grasping everything, I'm all fucked up I don't even know what the fuck to do anymore which is why I just wanna run and leave and if I have to stand by a gate all night in Georgia so be it LOL, I just want to feel better and have direction in my life.

My father had me on the path to go to NYU, he ruled with an iron first but my mom took me and I ended up dropping out and being all fucked up so he hates her to death but no one can help me and I'm kinda tired.

I just want to accept my faith and disappear somewhere no one knows me and just start over, find a way to survive, or just do it. much easier anywhere than Florida where these houses costing 500k on average.

Bro PM me, if you come to GA I'll definitely try to help you.

You still living in Huntsville homie I'll be up there tonight grandson got a game in Athens and other grandson got a game Friday? That's where all my folks are on my dad's side and my daughters live in Athens right now.

But you sure about the shortage? I've been looking at houses and land in Athens and Madison for a while now and its a bunch for sale.

athen.png
Right on.. Athens and Madison are 40 / 30 min commute but are considered Hsv metro. My group Gside is from Athens. That town has seen significant growth in past 10 years

My step Dad sits on the industrial board so i have a little bit of insight. From what I understand, incoming military personnel and engineers have priority in the 'buy' market. Rental is a different story.

I'm in Sweden right now but i do have 2k sqft house in north Huntsville that i rent out to some college kids. My mom has a home as well.

Check out Warner Robins, GA.

When I was stationed there as a Company Grade Officer, even 1st Lts were buying big ass houses (would be mansions to New Yorkers). And our salary was like $56k.
i lived there in 04. My sister still does and she has one of them big houses. I can vouch for this. Decent area too. not run-down or grimey. Beautiful sistas there. and you're close to JB Warner Robins. (AFB)

If you listen to what NOTREALLY said then you're a fool like his granddaddy.

Things in the South are way different now. He and his granddad must not have heard that GA has 2 Democratic senators...Tech hubs with jobs starting around 100k...one of if not the best area to stretch your dollar and still buy a relatively inexpensive house.

Whatever. Listen to people that actually reside in the South rather than outside opinions.

Don't get mad at me because the south is full of dumb ass, backward, hep-me-Jesus dumbfucks who don't realize slavery
ended many moons ago.

Why are you taking it so personally? Typical country ass dumbfuckery.
