We all have done dumbshit.

My argument isn't with that.

But all we have to go on is what happened. And what happened is he ran up on someone way below his weight class.

Jeff agrees with your perspective. Fair enough. I don't because I haven't seen the proof of it.

Bottom line is, no one will ever know for sure what course of action he would have taken had it been say, TK Kirkland.

In any case, it was a costly lapse in judgement.

We in turn, in my opinion, should not define him according to this one action vs a well cultivated 30+ year career.

In the end, I feel bad for Chris but also for Will because he had to have been in a bad place to lash out that extremely in response to something that wasn't extreme at all.

I hope Will finds peace within and keeps pressing on and is able to put this behind him.

Well said bro.

All I'm saying is i don't personally believe he sized Chris up

It wasn't a business decision

When i did my dumb sh*t In that moment I should have thought he has a gun stand down

I didn't

Conversely I've slapped dudes in a lower weight class disrespectful just off GP.

again you might be right.

But I ain't never seen Will "scared"

In fact we seen the opposite

Will is leader and faces all comers.

I think when he lost it?

It wouldn't have mattered who it was in front of him

Man the way Will strutted off the stage it still looks fake to me , complete with his smile and everything.

Wow really?

Cause I've seen that same exact smile in real life after a dude did some dumb sh*t over a woman waiting for his pat on the head and cops taking him away in cuffs.

Thank you, Brother. I can say the same for you.

I'm not even saying Will made a conscious decision.

I think it was instinctual what he did.

But I also think, instinctually, that would have not been his reaction if it looked like he could get fucked up by the dude.

This is true.

Will is a stupid for Jada. He displays a bunch of “Beta Male” tendencies….

HOWEVER Will is not nowhere near shy, afraid or lacking in self confidence. He been living that Hollywood life for decades. There is NO reason for him to ever back down or second guess a decision.

It doesnt matter who was up there - when it was his time to lose his shit, he did. It wasn’t intentional. He was waiting for a pat on the back and thought everyone was behind him. That’s delusional.

Chris Rock Finally Properly Addresses That Will Smith Oscars Slap
Throughout his headlining comedy set, Chris Rock makes multiple references to Will Smith, the Oscars, and the slap heard round the world.

BY PRESTON FOSTERPUBLISHED 9 HOURS AGO

While headlining a stand-up show, Chris Rock made multiple references to Will Smith slapping him at the Oscars. Rock was presenting at this year's Academy Awards when he joked about Smith's wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, starring in G.I. Jane 2 – a reference to her bald head. Although Smith appeared to be laughing after Rock's jab, he took the stage and hit the comedian before returning to his seat and shouting, "Keep my wife's name out of your f–ing mouth." Smith took home the award for Best Actor for his performance in King Richard later in the evening.

The day after the ceremony, Smith issued a public apology on Instagram and wrote that he was "embarrassed" and that the slap was "not indicative of the man I want to be." He later resigned from the Academy and will be prohibited from attending all Academy events, including the Oscars, for ten years. Pinkett broke her silence surrounding the incident on an episode of her Red Table Talk show, where she said the Smith family would focus on "deep healing."

According to Us Weekly, Rock addressed the slap during his set at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, New Jersey. Referring to Smith as "Suge Smith," he joked, "Anyone who says words hurt has never been punched in the face." In a later sketch about playing the victim, Rock said, "I'm not a victim, motherf–er." He added, "Yeah, that shit hurt. But I shook that shit off and went to work the next day. I don't go to the hospital for a papercut."

The media frenzy that continued for weeks following the slap was a level of publicity rarely seen by the Oscars, if ever. Looks of shock and disbelief from Andrew Garfield, Nicole Kidman, Lupita Nyong'o, and Serena Williams made it onto the live broadcast. Some attributed the bizarreness of the incident to a staged publicity stunt, while others cast it off as "rich people problems." Reactions from the public and Hollywood raged across social media as millions took sides in what became Rock versus Smith. There is now even a "Will Smith–Chris Rock slapping incident" page on Wikipedia.

Regardless of who was right, wrong, or if everyone needed to move on, it was frustrating to watch the other filmmakers being recognized have their achievements overshadowed by that moment. Even though those in attendance attempted to finish the night as normally as possible, the awkwardness that sat in the air as the Summer of Soul crew took the stage to accept Best Documentary Feature from Chris Rock – which directly followed the incident – was felt by attendees and viewers alike. Ironically, it leaves a movie fan hoping that next year's Oscars are a little less notable.

Chris Rock Jokes About Will Smith Oscars Slap During Stand-Up Show With Kevin Hart: ‘I’m Not a Victim’
By Julia Emmanuele
July 25, 2022

Finding the funny side. Chris Rock referenced Will Smith slapping him at the Oscars while headlining a stand-up show alongside Kevin Hart.
Everything Chris Rock Has Said About the Will Smith Oscars Slap Drama

“Anyone who says words hurt has never been punched in the face,” the comedian, 57, joked during his set at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, New Jersey, on Sunday, July 24, an eyewitness exclusively told Us Weekly. During the show, Rock also referred to Smith, 53, as “Suge Smith,” a possible reference to the currently-incarcerated Death Row Records CEO Suge Knight.

Later, during a sketch about people being overly sensitive and playing the victim, Rock declared, “I’m not a victim, mother–ker,” before joking that he “shook that s–t off” and returned to work. “Yeah, that sh-t hurt, motherf–ker,” he continued. “But I shook that sh-t off and went to work the next day … I don’t go to the hospital for a papercut.”

What Does Will Smith’s Academy Resignation Mean After Oscars Incident?

The performance comes four months after the King Richard star slapped Rock in the face during the 2022 Academy Awards ceremony. The Madagascar star was presenting when he made a joke about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith starring in G.I. Jane 2, a reference to her bald head. (The actress, 50, suffers from alopecia.) The Oscar winner then stormed the stage and hit Rock, before returning to his seat and yelling for him to “keep my wife’s name out your f—king mouth.”

In the wake of the incident, the Hitch star issued a public apology for his “unacceptable and inexcusable” actions one day after the awards show. “I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness,” he wrote via Instagram at the time. Smith later resigned from the Academy and was barred from participating in all Oscars-related events, including next year’s ceremony, for 10 years.

Rock, for his part, sarcastically said that “he’s had an interesting week” during an appearance in Atlantic City, New Jersey, on April 2. “Everyone laughed because they knew what he was referring to, of course,” a source told Us at the time, noting that the performer said he was “still processing” recent events. “He made a joke about how Atlantic City is too close to Philly for him to get into it. The general vibe of the comment was that Atlantic City could be hostile territory because it’s so close to Philly. It was said in a casual joking way and everyone laughed.”

The following month, Rock referenced the incident more explicitly while assuring audiences that he’s “OK” after the slap. “ got most of my hearing back,” the South Carolina native said during a stand-up set in May 2022 at London’s Royal Albert Hall. “Don’t expect me to talk about the bulls–t. I’ll talk about it at some point — on Netflix. Your tickets were expensive, but not that expensive.”

New Love! See Chris Rock and Lake Bell’s Relationship Timeline

In addition to comic work, the Grown Ups actor has been focused on his personal life as he recovers from the incident. Us confirmed earlier this month that Rock is now dating actress Lake Bell. “Chris has been in a really good mood,” a source said at the time. “He’s dating and spending his downtime with Lake Bell. [They] both just laugh a lot when they’re together. They have similar personalities.”

Denzel Washington speaks publicly about Will Smith Oscar slap
By Keith Allen and Alaa Elassar, CNN

Updated 9:57 AM ET, Mon April 4, 2022

(CNN)Denzel Washington spoke publicly about his interaction with Will Smith on Oscar night and what happened after Smith slapped Chris Rock on stage.

Washington was a guest and speaker at Bishop T.D. Jakes' leadership summit on Saturday. During the two-hour discussion about faith and his award-winning acting career, Washington was asked about the infamous slap and what happened afterward.
"Well, there's a saying when the devil ignores you, then you know you're doing something wrong," Washington said in video of the exchange posted on Jakes' verified Twitter account.

"You know, the devil goes, 'Oh, no, leave him alone, he's my favorite. Don't bother him.' Conversely, when the devil comes at you, maybe it's because you're trying to do something right. And for whatever reason, the devil got a hold of that circumstance that night."

At the Academy Awards, Smith walked to the stage and slapped Chris Rock, who was presenting at the time, after he made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith's shaved head.

Shortly after the incident, Smith won his first Academy Award and offered his apologies to the Academy and others for the earlier incident.

During his acceptance speech, Smith said that prior to his win, fellow nominee Washington shared some wisdom with him: "At your highest moment be careful, that's when the devil comes for you."

Washington said during Saturday's discussion that he, along with actor and producer Tyler Perry, prayed with Smith after the incident.
"Fortunately, there were people there, not just me, but others in the gap," Washington told Jakes. "Tyler Perry came right immediately, right over there with me."

Washington would not say what the three men spoke or prayed about after the incident.

"Who are we to condemn?" Washington asked. "I don't know all the ins and outs of the situation, but I know the only solution was prayer."
Smith issued an apology on Monday in a statement on Instagram, calling his behavior "unacceptable and inexcusable."

The smart thing would have been to announce signed himself up to Anger Management therapy.

While in therapy, come out with a public statement saying he has anger management issues and is working on it.

Similar to drug/alcohol addicts. Part of their rehab is go meet the people face to face that they hurt while under their addiction and confess they are addict and apologize when they are sober. They usually do it alongside their counselor.

99% of the time family/friends/co-workers, etc will forgive them and help them get thru it.

Then later privately meet Chris and apologize and later come out with a public apology.

Just coming out with this video is not gonna fly.

I agree that the video is not enough but the first time they meet for any face to face apology needs to be done in public. The apology needs to be done in the same manner as the offense. Will didn't have a problem walking up and bitch slapping that man in front of millions so he shouldn't have a problem apologizing in the same manner and If I was Chris or his people I would say that's non negotiable. I don't wanna hear I'm sorry behind closed doors.

Will Smith's Self-Imposed Exile Seems Over As He And Jada Pinkett Smith Go Out Publicly For First Time Since March
By Erik Swann published 11 minutes ago
Will Smith is out and about again.

It’s been months since Will Smith slapped Chris Rock on stage at the Oscars and, since then, the I Am Legend star has been keeping a relatively low profile. Though Smith did break his silence on the slap just a few weeks ago and apologized to Rock for the situation. (The star also addressed his “irreparable” relationship with Rock’s brother, Tony.) Though he’s mostly been out of the public eye, it now looks like Smith is out of his self-imposed exile. At least, that’s what one might gather since he and wife Jada Pinkett Smith were spotted out in public for the first time since March.

Paparazzi captured photos of Will and Jada Pinkett Smith this past weekend, as the celebrity couple enjoyed an afternoon visit to Nobu Malibu. Based on the snapshots that were shared with People, the two stars (dressed in relatively casual attire) appeared to be feeling good as they took in their surroundings. Will seemed especially calm and was photographed throwing up a peace sign to a nearby fan. Smith’s viral apology video suggested that he’s moving into a calmer state of mind, and these photos seem to indicate just that.

Though this is the first time the King Richard star has been spotted in public with his wife, he had reportedly been making some moves soon after the Academy Awards debacle. It was said that the actor had embarked on a “spiritual journey” of sorts, which took him to India. The star had apparently sought to attend a meditation retreat there in order to get away from the drama surrounding his actions at the award show.

Will Smith slapped Chris Rock on live TV after the comedian, who was presenting the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature, made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith. Rock declined to press charges against Smith, who gave a tearful Oscars acceptance speech later that night. In the week that followed, Smith formally resigned from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and the organization formally banned him for a decade shortly after.

Jada Pinkett Smith has been a bit more vocal when it comes to the slap. During an episode of Red Table Talk, Pinkett Smith called for a reconciliation between her husband and the veteran comedian. While her hubby said during his apology video that he’s ready to talk whenever, the Saturday Night Live alum doesn’t seem too eager just yet.

As it stands, Chris Rock allegedly has no plans to reach out to Will Smith, with a source claiming that the apology was done in the hopes of repairing the Oscar winner’s relationship with the public. All the while, the Everybody Hates Chris creator is still on the comedy grind, having even headlined Madison Square Garden with Kevin Hart and Dave Chappelle as of late. While he hasn’t formally addressed what went down between him and Smith, Rock did seem to respond to the apology during a stand-up routine.

All in all, it doesn’t appear that Will Smith will have an opportunity to truly mend fences anytime soon. But of course, things could change, as Smith slowly but surely re-enters the public eye.
