I think Will wildly overreacted to a light joke. Will made easily the biggest mistake of his career. Regardless of what else is pent up in him. He should have seen this was a bad move. Even if you think the slap was justified because he was "defending" his wife's honor. You have to see the blowback only opened the door for consequences that are completely out of your control. If he would have talked to Chris Rock during a break or after the show, this would be a non issue. He turned a joke so tame that wouldn't even have registered 20 minutes from the time he said it into something that is being analyzed & dissected. All of this is now tied to his marriage, his family, his career. His Oscar win is now forever tied to an unnecessary slap of someone who has a mental disability. If he'd have let it go, the world would be celebrating his achievement. Instead they are demonizing him. And the length of this has yet to be determined. Straight short sighted. And believe his inability to truly apologize to Chris Rock is not lost on anyone.

It's looking like the Academy will let him keep the award, but its looking like he will have a one year or longer ban from the Academy which means any films/projects he does he will not receive a Oscar nomination. He also will be banned from attending any Oscar functions including award shows if they decide to go that route.
It's being reported that Will has a new movie coming out late this year that was getting Oscar buzz for him to get nominated for a Best Actor award.
Being he won it this week, if he had managed to pull it off next year, he would have gone down in Oscar history as the 3rd man to win back to back Best Actor after Spencer Tracy and Tom Hanks, along with being the first Black Man to achieve that honor.
It's looking like that is not gonna happen.
