True, you and me can't govern a person's response to a joke, but the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences can. They should do something about it but probably won't because they probably feel bad for Will .
Actually, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences cannot govern a person's response to a joke.
- However, they CAN impose consequences on guild members, nominees and attendees for taking violent actions during an event they're sponsoring.
:dunno:

I'M GONNA SAY THIS AGAIN.......KEVIN WOULD NOT HAVE TOLD THAT JOKE. HE JUST WOULDN'T HAVE. He doesn't deliver punchlines that make people laugh like that anyways. Joke would have came out even drier with him telling it. It was a bad enough joke with Chris telling it. Wasn't funny at all nor was the delivery of it. Nevermind the content.

JW you know you my dude, but I don't think it was a bad joke. It got some chuckles, even from Will initially. Was it bust-a-gut funny? No. But that type of joke is Rock's bread and butter. And Rock is not from the school of DL or Joe Torrey, where they go below the belt and mash on the audience. Rock has never been a mean-spirited comedian.

Like I said, enjoy your neighborhood where decour and couth avoid. Thanks for let me know about your skintone. If you read my post I made it a point to not identify race of the woman making the statement. Any woman making that statement lives in a piece of shit neighborhood, you just don't realize it.

You wanted to make it about Black women to garner more symapthy. That statement you made could apply to a Puerto Rican woman, you feel better now?
I don't even know who you are but I'm going to let you keep going especially on the shitty neighborhood. I can't even begin to relate. But who I am to prove myself to you.

Would they do what Will did on live television, without the money, notoriety and lawyers that Will has? Cause BS aside it is still assault, and we ain't got the pull to get community service and anger management classes. Folks be a bad decision away from being a picture on a t-shirt with Free above and YOUR NAME below.
And I clearly stated I wouldn't put anyone in the position to have to do this.

If I was Rock I would sue the Oscars. I'm sure he had a contract with them for services rendered and their is an expectation of safety when working for an entity of that magnitude.

This here. My question around all this is how the Oscars let Will Smith get on stage, slap the Oscars MC who is of the biggest celebrities in the world, sit back down, cuss and threaten him, and get his award. The Oscars management and staff didn't give a shit about Chris Rock. I couldn't imagine this acceptable if it were a White Celebrity up there. Letting anybody get on stage, slap your MC and chill was a slap in the face itself.

It reeks of negligence all the way round by the Academy. Failure to protect Chris physically, not to mention the embarrassment and damage to his career. Not a lawyer, but it would seem he has a case.

Great observation. This part of the narrative is not discussed enough. Will and Jada went into the awards with beef against Chris. Not just because of jokes at their expense at a previous Oscars but because when Oscars so White was a thing and Jada started a boycott, Chris gave the Academy cover by stepping in and hosting the awards show. Chris has to know that the Academy brought him in that year because of the backlash but he gave them cover anyway like Jay did the NFL. Then Chris clowns Jada at that Oscars even though she was not there. You usually direct your jokes to the nominees and those in attendance but he went out of his way to joke on her.

Anyway, there was a perfect storm of events that resulted in that slap which is why folks are still discussing it.
As I remember it, Jada and Will started that "Oscars so White" shit because Will's movie wasn't nominated that year. And so, I didn't take it seriously. There was that conflict of interests. As if his movie absolutely deserved nomination and was robbed because THE PINKETT-SMITHS said so. Entitlement at it's finest. It was not as if they started out specifically speaking on behalf of someone else's project(s) with which they weren't affiliated.

They did broaden it out to address a real issue of lack of representation at the Oscars. But the original premise was shaky to me. That's why I didn't have a problem with the joke Chris Rock made about them in 2016.

I don't mean bad joke as in poor taste. Fuck Jada. I'm on baord with you. It just wasn't funny to me.

In a weird way it's gonna do wonders for Chris career. Think about how many people who weren't gonna go see him in his upcoming comedy tour go see him now? He HAS to adress the issue during his show.

Adding onto @Gemini post because I wondered
When you walk onto a stage and punch/slap someone
Security should pay you a visit. And they did.
They asked him to leave.
But Will Smith said, hell no. He aint going nowhere
So security shrugged their shoulders and bounced.

That's fucked up.

No doubt. I saw a post where his tiks went from lest than a $100/seat to over $400/seat and sold out. Guess there is an upside to an ass whooping when you famous. I'm sure promotors are renegotiating them contracts.

I don't think they'll take his award. But he's definitely catching a lifetime ban. You can't have so much negative press about Hollywood's biggest event & come away clean. He's gonna have to eat this one.
That's what I'm worried about. Them overreating to all the negative press.
