you wanna get REALLY deep and fucked up about it?

the longer she's over there the more interesting her storygets....if she gets out now...it'll be that thing that happened that time. If she's in there a few years that builds time for her to become a cause célèbre for the country...for social justice etc.

While she's not going to a country club its not in russia's best interest on the world stage for her to get fucked up in there. So I dont THINK she's in any imminent real danger. So 2 to 4 years... she gets out...theres more to build on in her story. She's just gotta get thru it.

Damn it....

Your right.

But everyone keeps saying Russia ain't gonna let nothing happen to her.

And I pray it's true

But personally?

I don't believe that.

LIFE HAPPENS

What if? She gets seriously hurt? Attacked? Raped? Or God forbid killed?

She is in a prison camp in the Russian outlands.

When would we even find out? Would we know the real?

If any of that happened...

What we gone do?

Attack?

What?

And is the country really gonna rally around a tall masculine looking black gay woman?

Who MANY think by the comments in this thread alone...

Wholeheartedly believe she brought all this on her herself?

Ok so conspiracy theorists fake Patriots and LGBTQ community will yell...

Then what?

Movies books posters clothing podcast social media posts articles etc etc

Ok THEN what?

You think there will be a george floyd level global reaction?

What Biden gonna do?

What SHOULD he do if she is seriously harmed or worse?

There is so much what about ism now...

Sorry I have near zero confidence in humanity bro.

I just want that woman to go home to her family.

Griner’s lawyers say Griner is “trying to stay strong” at her penal colony in Mordovia.

Earlier this month, one week after U.S. officials met with Griner and press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre announced she is “doing as well as can be expected,” the athlete’s lawyers announced she was being transferred from a Russian jail to a penal colony whose location was then unknown. (Per the Times, during staging — Russia’s drawn-out process of penal-colony transfers — prisoners are not allowed to communicate with the outside world and neither lawyers nor family members are apprised of their whereabouts until they arrive.) Griner’s legal team has since confirmed she’s serving her sentence at IK-2 in Mordovia, a region seven hours southeast of Moscow. The female penal colony is known for its dire conditions, with a 2017 article from Russian newspaper Moskovsky Komsomolets describing routine beatings, torture, and slave-labor work conditions. Griner’s lawyers say they visited her this week and that she is “doing as well as could be expected” in this “very challenging period for her.”

Griner’s team also expressed gratitude for her supporters: “Despite the fact that she is alone and now nearing her ninth month in detention separated from her loved ones, she is trying to stay strong,” her agent said in a statement, expressing “deepest thanks to the Biden administration, the Richardson Center, and to everyone who has reached out to offer words of encouragement to her.” Griner’s agent also said the athlete has been “buoyed” by international letters of support and encouraged supporters to write and share them at wearebg.org.

U.S. tamps down Russia's update on Brittney Griner talks

  • T.J. QuinnESPN Staff Writer
A potentially promising Russian statement about negotiations to bring Brittney Griner home was met with quick dismissal from the U.S. Department of State on Friday.
Sergei Ryabkov, the Russian deputy foreign minister, was quoted by Russian media early in the day saying there was new "activity" in talks that could see convicted arms dealer Viktor Bout, who is currently serving 25 years in a U.S. prison, returned to Russia.
"We haven't found common ground yet, but, undoubtedly, Viktor Bout is among those being discussed and obviously we are hoping for a positive result," Ryabkov reportedly said. "The Americans are showing certain activity and we are working on this through appropriate channels."
But a State Department spokesperson fired back that Russia still has not seriously engaged in negotiations, no matter what Ryabkov said.
"We are not going to comment on the specifics of any proposals other than to say that we have made a substantial offer that the Russian Federation has consistently failed to negotiate in good faith," the statement said. "The U.S. Government has continued to follow up on that offer and propose alternative potential ways forward with the Russian government. The Russian government's failure to seriously negotiate on these issues in the established channel, or any other channel for that matter runs counter to its public statements."
EDITOR'S PICKS
U.S. officials had said they hoped their Russian counterparts would engage in good faith after the Nov. 8 midterm elections, but Friday's statement made it clear that such a shift hasn't happened, as least in the eyes of the U.S. government.
Sources close to Griner said Friday that her family remained "optimistic" and confident that the Biden administration was doing all it could to get her home. But they are also trying not to overreact to the ups and downs of a process they know could go on for months or years.
Friday's official statements came after Griner's recent transfer to a Russian penal colony, a move confirmed by her attorneys but still not officially acknowledged by the Russian government. Griner's attorneys met with her in person Monday, but U.S. embassy officials have not been able to visit her yet at the IK-2 women's prison about two hours outside of Moscow.

"While we are glad her legal team was able to visit her, the fact is that the Russian Federation has still failed to provide any official notification of such a move," a State Department spokesperson said in a statement. "We continue to call on Russia to live up to their legal obligations to provide the United States timely consular access to Ms. Griner so we can provide critical consular assistance throughout her detention. That's difficult to do when we haven't been notified where she is."
One of Griner's attorneys, Maria Blagovolina, said recently that Russian officials typically notify families and attorneys about a prisoner's location by mail, which can take about two weeks during normal circumstances.
Griner has not yet been in contact with her family, a source said, and most likely won't be able to until she has cleared a standard "quarantine" period at her new location.

Why do people wanna act like the NBA hasn't try helping the WNBA. Matter of fact, why do people act like NBA players made this type of money for most of the league history..The players only started making this type of money only the last 10 years.

It's like folks want to ignore all the facts and try to make it a gender issue when it's not...

I agree. Getting thru it is the worst/hardest part though. Jail let alone prison over here ain't easy. I could only imagine how much worse it is over there. The mental toll will likely be far worse than the physical.

Only real reason I'm interested in following this situation is solely because of how fucked up it is. I hope she can make it thru.

South Carolina, Stanford coaches use matchup to back Brittney Griner

i

STANFORD, Calif. -- South Carolina coach Dawn Staley and Stanford coach Tara VanDerveer wore long-sleeved shirts honoring Brittney Griner as part of a series of efforts to support the detained WNBA star during their teams' No. 1 vs. No. 2 matchup Sunday at Maples Pavilion.
The coaches got together on court before the game for a moment of silence for Griner, who is imprisoned in Russia after being convicted in August of drug charges. The Phoenix Mercury center was arrested in February in Moscow and is spending her 276th day in confinement as of Sunday. The U.S. State Department has classified Griner as "wrongfully detained."

Stanford also set up a letter-writing station in the Maples concourse Sunday to send cards to Griner, collecting hundreds of messages.
South Carolina's Dawn Staley and Stanford's Tara VanDerveer used their No. 1 vs. No. 2 matchup to keep focus on Brittney Griner's continued detainment in Russia. Darren Yamashita/USA Today Sports
"I went up and wrote a letter," said Staley, who wore a "Free BG" cap after her Gamecocks won 76-71 in overtime. "Tara is leading this campaign on this particular campus, and we both know Brittney. She's been part of our basketball family, and she's in a fight for her life. I know there are other Americans that are wrongly detained, and obviously we want them all to come home, but when you have a relationship and a friendship with someone, it's personal.

"It's a personal fight for us to bring her home, and every little bit counts. Every little bit, every letter. ... If it was anyone's loved one, loved ones, you would fight for them. I do think there's a waymaker out there that's going to make the way for her to get home a lot sooner hopefully than a lot of people expect. I'm one that's going to think optimistically and prayerfully that she gets home soon."

The back of the T-shirts, which were designed by Playa Society and are expected to be available for sale later this month, have a message to Griner that reads: "Dear BG: We love you and are fighting for you. Millions of us are uplifting your name every chance we get, and we won't stop until you are home. We hope our love and support reaches you and ultimately sets you free."

A portion of the profits from the sale of the shirts will go to the Bring Our Families Home Campaign and the James W. Foley Legacy Foundation, both of which advocate for the rights of Americans detained in other countries

The moment of silence in support of Griner has been standard practice so far this season at Stanford's home games, and the players also wore "BG" patches on their uniforms. A video message in support of Griner showed on the big screen shortly before tipoff.

Griner won gold medals as part of the U.S. Olympic women's basketball team in 2016 and 2021, the latter when Staley coached the Americans. Staley played for VanDerveer when the Americans won the 1996 gold medal.

VanDerveer spoke before the game about some of her memories of Griner when she was at Baylor. Griner's Bears squad finished a 40-0 NCAA title season in 2011-12 with a championship-game victory over Stanford.

After the game, VanDerveer brought up Griner right away in her news conference.

"It's been 276 days since Brittney Griner has been incarcerated in Russia," VanDerveer said. "Hopefully, we brought some good attention to that. We've been saying something every game and having a moment of silence for her. We need to bring her home."

Wonder if the next game will have a Spec Ops mission where you have to break her out of prison :roflmao2:
th
Wanna hear something that is right everyone knows but the media would never say...
If Briney was soft and feminine folks would be lining up as mercenaries to save her, but with her looking and acting manly no one gives a fuck.
The reason is that the real power of a woman is in her feminity and while black women are sold the lie that there is power for women to act manly and masculine, in reality, it leaves them vulnerable and weakened.
This plays in Sun Tzu's saying.
“Appear weak when you are strong, and strong when you are weak — Sun Tzu”
Where black women are fooled into thinking they are strong when they are being weakened.

The inmates at IK-2 penal colony rise at 6 a.m. each day for a breakfast of milk porridge, bread and tea. Soon they leave their barracks at this aging facility about 300 miles southeast of Moscow, in the isolated republic of Mordovia.

Long days are spent in forced labor, working at sewing machines, with only a short break for lunch. By nightfall, prisoners are fed dinner and allowed an hour or less of free time before going to sleep in dormitories crowded with scores of bunk beds. The routine reportedly can stretch for weeks on end with no days off.

I keep seeing updates on her and thinking they've finally let her out but looks like she will be in there for awhile. I used to watch those locked up abroad shows all the time and lots of those places are just like they're describing in the article above
