I hate to say this. Refunds are only one part of the equation. I want to know how much money did people get during the year. I would like to hear some real numbers about how much people saved or paid overall.

I only ask this, because at some point this is going to be a real issue. I don't want the conservatives to derail the tax scam debate because they found two middle class people that saved overall on their taxes.

The article said a lot people did get a
tax break

The analysis that we’ve done is that two-thirds will get a tax cut, and a small percent — 8 or 10 — will get a tax increase,” Tax Policy Center Director Mark Mazur told Yahoo Finance.

and then there was this quote:

In the [George W.] Bush administration, there was a tax cut and they sent people a check,” Mazur said. “And people remembered that they got that check. In the Obama administration, there was a tax credit that was delivered in the form of a reduced withholding — and people didn’t notice it.”

He added: “When they did polling on the Obama tax cut, people didn’t think they got it. Those lessons apply here. Unless people do that comparison, they don’t know. They focus on the dollars in and dollars out when they file their returns.”

The majority of the article talks about the lack of refund.

So my question still stands. What are the overall numbers for average folk?

Again what kind of moron expects a tax return
Millions of people across the country who dont have upper middle class incomes and have been getting refunds for years....between competing sources of media with differing propaganda objectives, it is quite reasonable to assume lots of folks wouldn't know the true facts in regards to tax policy...I think if the choice was clearly presented, the majority would choose a big refund over a little extra in the paycheck....refund is like forced saving

But a refund is just your money you over paid to the government. It’s no different!

You'll have to do a lot of digging to find some non-partisan facts about this shit from top to bottom.

While this is true, and it's an interest free loan to the gov...that shit doesn't matter. People feel good getting a $500 check each spring. It's one of those things that may not make sense, but it's not gonna change. Eating pork bacon isn't healthy but people still love it...
It's similar to how I think rebate checks work better than getting a few dollars in your paycheck every two weeks. Most people aren't going to hardly notice an extra $16 in their paycheck but they will notice a 400 rebate check. Most people don't realize that they got a tax break for a couple years when Obama first got in office as part of the stimulus but everybody remembers getting an extra check from Bush Jr in 2002/3 or so for his stimulus package.

But a refund is just your money you over paid to the government. It’s no different!

They'll try to spin this as you having taken home more money up front (I've already heard that happening), but the problem for the GOP is that they know their people aren't nuanced. They conditioned them to be simple-minded.

So as much as you shouldn't rely on a tax return for your financial well being, a lot of poor people do. And it's going to be hard to explain to them how they saved so much money any kind of way when they can't spend the chunk that they're used to getting each year.

I've always wanted my goal to get as small a tax return as possible...

I need my money throughout the year, not once a year

Yeah that’s how I am, my tax return has been less than $50 for years, but this year they said I owe them about $30:angry:

This is true but most people BLOW that money within a couple of months, you’d think it was Black Friday the way people hit those stores when their taxes drop. Ask any Walmart employee, car dealer or any stripper what their favorite time of the year is:lol::roflmao::roflmao3::roflmao3:

People should have adjusted their withholding

I mean if you are getting more money each paycheck
Your tax return will be smaller

But people don’t see that
