You looking at this issue with blinders on the deductions that was taken away made a big difference with most of the country especially the middle class in states with sales tax.

there is an article in this thread with people that adjusted using the IRS online calculator and got killed
and there are tax experts saying the IRS helpline was also giving inaccurate info.... thats a problem
If you are following IRS guidelines and live in a state that has state tax + "penalty state" (traditional blue states )- depending on your tax bracket you are sol on withholding
