They Said No to My Show, Then Made Their Own Version—Help Me Outshine Them. ✪Promo✪

No funny, but Poet is probably better off not working with dude; if that's the quality work he's putting out. It would've broke his hart to see what they would've done to TPT. My boy wrote a movie, sold it, and hates the finish product. To the point he tried to dissuade folks from seeing it. Even with his name plastered all over the jawn
That would fucking hurt. I mean it. The novels that I'm working on, and I have some really really good premises, if I sold them and they ended up being an embarrassment I didn't want to be associated with instead of the greatness that I saw in them when I started writing them I would be pissed.

I was working on one of them last night creating dialogue between the characters. I would be heartbroken. One, if done properly is Oacars-quality content/subject matter.

Can you sue?

Nah. My lawyer said he'd just claim parallel thinking and despite us having receipts of sending him my stuff, he'd deny the inspiration came from that especially since he's using a different animation style. Everyone I talked to in the industry has said the same. Best I can hope for is he acknowledges behind the scenes that it's similar and he tries to make things right.

I can't promise you a ton of views, but the least I can do is subscribe to the channel. I respect the hustle, and we've gotta have each others backs when we can.

Not surprised to hear some of what you're dealing with, though. As crummy as it is, the industry is basically like that in a lot of ways. The best thing you have going for you is that you've actually produced work, which is the step that a lot of people never even get to. It sucks that someone is hijacking the same idea, but very often execution is what ends up creating the best results. Best of luck to you.

I just appreciate the subscription, fam. Recently heard someone from Philly say Lee Daniels jacked their IP. Didn't get the details on it though. Shame that it's Philly on Philly again, too.

Are you doing the YouTube shorts? Have you looked into any of the AI short creators?

I notice my YouTube recommendations are getting flooded with shorts recommendations. They also seem to be getting a ton views, even more views than the videos they were created from.

So I tried to pivot a little into SHORTS but I get no traction with it. I've heard people say if the algorithm knows you as a longer content maker, that's what it recommends. Heard someone who tried to pivot from Shorts into long form say they had the same: they crushit on Shorts and get no traction on the regular side. I gotta look into the AI shorts creators though. Don't know much about it.

Same. It felt like it was cliche after cliche. Thought maybe it was AI doing the voices, because no way those people read that script and we're like, "yeah, let's do this." That bag must've been astronomical. However; it is BET+. That Tyler Perry effect was in full force. Boondocks was right about that channel. They hate black people. It was cringe as hell. Sorta like that Good Times cartoon. Before I knew the backstory, I was hoping that LK was going to be like the Everybody Still Hates Chris show, but it 100% was not.

I think that's part of what makes this shit worse. If you're gonna do the shit, at least do it right. At least hire some Philly writers and voice actors so it sounds like Philly. I'm a big fan of the actors they hired but they don't sound anything like Philly. That's one of the cool things about Abbott. Quinta is unapologetic about making sure it sounds like a Philly school, despite having mostly Hollywood actors.

Damn he really is advertising that shit :eek2:

I'm already a subscriber/viewer so I got you there.

Unfortunately my social media presence is so low that you might actually lose subscribers if I attempt to share it lol.

Ironically, I was just watching this yesterday and it seems somewhat similar to your situation so maybe it's worth a listen.

What stands out to me is he says in this video that if you're going to take legal action the time to do it is when they're advertising and ready to start promoting which appears to be the case here:

This was a really good watch. Thanks, fam

Would it help to your shorts under a different account?

maybe start a 2nd channel?

something like VisionPoet Clips - 2.5 minute vids and 90 second shorts?

True.

The smartest thing for him would to hire in some form which would have been a way to accomplish this without any potential blowback.

Playing devils advocate, do you think it's possible that the individuals who were supposed to be taking your idea to him on your behalf could have possibly taken the idea to him and presented it as their own?

Good question. Not sure about the first one. We've been friends since HS so I wouldn't assume so, but Hollywood has a way of changing people
The 2nd one was a producer attached to my project who set up all my pitches so I doubt it.
The 3rd one is possible. We're cool but only industry cool.

Smart man.. see I didn’t even get to look at his whole page but the shorts definitely get to go more viral or get more viewership.. I’ve heard some people be making a low 5 figs a month just off of YouTube short vids… he has 91 segments so he has a bunch of content to use.. 91 shorts could be a summary of each segment.. could take a 30-60 sec clip off of some of his segments that he find real funny.. could mix and match shit and be like Philly slang be like “….” Bunch of sub genres.. people with short attention spans can definitely view those clips.. once again brilliant recommendation by you

BGOLiens, I need your help.

Some of you know I’ve been grinding on my animated comedy, Trashterpiece Theater. It’s an edgy adult animated show set in 1990s and 2000s North Philly, and it’s my baby. It’s my love letter to Philly, the era, and the utter ridiculousness of coming of age as a Xennial. The cool part is it shows how so many of us have similar stories regardless of background and location. I’ve been developing it for a larger platform and pitching it over the past few years, staying patient while waiting for the industry to shift from shows like Rick and Morty back to grounded, character-driven stories like The Boondocks.

Here’s the kicker: This isn’t just a concept. It’s a proof of concept. I’ve got 91 episodes of Trashterpiece Theater out right now. That’s years of work, all done independently—writing, animating, voicing, editing, everything. With no budget.

Here’s the bullshit:

  • 2020: I tried to pitch the show to an A-list comedian from my neighborhood through a mutual friend. He passed, then created his own version of my show and posted it on his IG (it’s still up). He was checked on it and never did another episode.
  • 2021: A producer I was working with sent it to his team. They passed, saying they “weren’t doing anything edgy.”
  • 2022: It was sent to him again by an industry mutual colleague (A John Singleton apprentice). He passed a third time, saying he wasn’t doing edgy content because he was in hot water for some personal stuff and wanted to stay in that Disney/The Rock pocket.
  • 2025: Dude announces his own edgy adult animated coming-of-age series set in 90s North Philly. It’s now airing on a streaming service, and the irony is fucking brutal.
  • This is gonna make pitching to production companies and streamers significantly harder. When I start pitching again, there may be some folks who say my series is too close to his (peep the irony).
I’m not here to bitch about it (okay, maybe a little). There’s nothing I can do to stop his show or force him to admit he stole my premise. But I can fight back by boosting Trashterpiece Theater as much as possible. I’m not giving up on my vision.

Here’s how you can help:
  1. Subscribe to my YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/visionpoet). Bigger numbers = more eyes = more chances to get this show in front of the right people. Plus, higher subscriber counts actually matter when proving to industry folks that there’s interest in my concept. I have 77k on IG, but IG doesn’t push videos over 3 minutes anymore, and my episodes are all 8-10 minutes.
  2. Share the series with anyone who loves edgy, irreverent animation. Word of mouth is everything.
  3. If you’re a YouTuber/Reviewer, I’d love for you to check out the series and share your thoughts. It’s hard to grow when you’re a one-person team grinding out episodes every week. To grow on YouTube, you really have to be uploading daily, and that’s impossible for me right now because animation is so tedious. If you know a review channel or YouTuber, would you refer it to them?
I’m not asking for pity, clout, or to push him down to lift myself up. I don’t want things to get messy because I still want homie to win (maybe I shouldn’t, but I do). All I’m asking for is a fighting chance. Trashterpiece is my heart, and I refuse to let it get overshadowed by someone who couldn’t be bothered to meet with me when I pitched it to them.

Check out a couple of episodes:
  • Pimps, Pranks, & Poltergeist: The Legend of Daddy God

  • The Mason-Dixon Lie

Thanks for reading, and thanks for having my back.

And yeah, I know...

200w.gif

As someone who knows writers personally, deals with writers, and has written part-time himself (though mostly as a hobby), understand that your best bet for preserving your work is to produce it yourself. Any sort of handoff, unless it's to someone that you trust implicitly, is probably going to get chewed up and reprocessed into something else.

One of my friends talked about how he's written stuff before, sold it to someone randomly, and then basically seen it pop up years later on SyFy or somewhere. It's never exactly the same thing he wrote, but it's close enough that he knows that it started with an idea that he delivered.

And there is something to just writing for content or to create a body of work that is sellable. But hold your real babies close to you, unless you just really want to gamble on what might happen to them.

I don't know if you already have but if not you may want to check this IMDB page to see if you recognize anyone you know being credited as a writer/creator/producer:

Man, if anyone read Michael crichton's Jurassic Park and then saw Jurassic Park the movie...man. Steven Spielberg did a number on that movie. And while it was popular and made a shit ton of money, it was nothing like the horror movie that Michael Crichton wrote.

Ironically, Steven Spielberg did a similar number with the movie Jaws, which was not entirely like Peter benchley's jaws novel.

He made them both quasi family friendly, Jaws was as family friendly as it could be. In the book not only did Matt Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss) fuck the Chief's wife, but he was eaten when the shark broke thru that shark cage.

When it comes to novels being translated from book to film, the closest I've ever seen was the green mile, with the only difference being the nursing home worker who was similar to Percy at the prison

What's interesting is Kevin Hart doesn't have a direct yt page but his network LOL does. Lol has 5.2 mil subs, they have their own link to the episode and it has less than 90k views in a week. Bet plus has 112K subs and their video has around 310K views in a week.........

We gotta put comments under both..... let's go BGOL, We can do this

Man, there is so much lack of accountability.

"We're sorry you feel wronged"

The fuck you mean you're sorry I feel wronged

People keep asking or the debate that is currently hot is why would Elon Musk steel from people like us when he's the richest man in the world?

For some reason, rich people want to get even richer Even when they have all of the monopoly money and Park place and boardwalk and most of the other properties.

Folks like me just want to get Oriental avenue. Maybe St James place. These folks got the whole board sewed up, And want to keep me poor So they can get even richer. Makes no fucking sense

Dude could’ve got an onlyfans and ask the people to join/buy the special on there for $5-$10.. he’ll get 80 percent of the proceeds.. he could even ask for tips or thank you donations... I don’t know why more indivuAl’s utilize those services..direct to consumer income
He did say he was releasing it on Patreon which I imagine is just Onlyfans without the titties?
