‘Power’ Prequel ‘Raising Kanan’ discussion

I heard they finished wrapping up Season 5 as well...I wonder if season 5 will be the last season of this show???
Also, depends on how season 4 plays out with another major character being killed, that could determine if season 5 is their last season or not.

This shit needs to end and season 5 should be their last. No need to keep dragging this shit further.

Raising Kanan is my favorite of the Power universe but I also agree there is no need to drag it on.

Raising Kanan starts in 1991, and the final scene of the original power was Ghost, Tommy, and Angie in 1996.

Five seasons is enough to give us Kanan's back story, show Raquel, Marvin and Lou Lou's inevitable deaths and show how Kanan met Ghost and Tommy.

Some interesting change ups from usual rap record end credits in last couple weeks. Great songs. Last week 403 was obvious choice. This week there are hundreds of rap songs that would have fit the moment so a stranger choice. But again great song.

His mother I m ID'd him in the morgue. I was thinking it wasn’t him until his mom broke down when she saw his body. Anything is possible though.
Then why didn't the camera show his body at the morgue, so the rest of us can see it. That's why I don't believe it's his body of him being dead when they only showed the mother crying.

Why was she crying like she had a loss. You think it could've been he was so badly decomposed she just assumed it was him?

I don't believe famous is dead, they never really showed us the body. All we saw was somebody decomposed hands.

Assist – I think they gonna show "how" Famous died & "who" killed him next week, in order to finish his story arc.

If you remember the very 1st season of "Power" when it started back in 2014, we know Famous DOES die at some point... because Kanan eventually has a son and names him "Shawn" after his dead friend, Famous.

Back in Season 1 Shawn comes to visit 50 Cent in jail...

I sort of thought Kanan killed Fsmous I must’ve made that up in my head. Thendirection of the scenes with Kanan makes it seems like he knows more than he lets on….

Which btw when are we gonna get what leads to Kanan becoming grimey like he is?

Because I don't believe she can tell it's her son being decomposed and it could be a person that looks like him..

Yeah, it doesn't make sense, hopefully next week is when we finally see what happened to famous of him being killed or it being another unique situation.

I just feel like it's hard to believe when we all thought unique was dead but he wasn't..

They didn't quite shoot/edit the bus scene properly, imo.

I was kinda confused also. I had to watch this whole episode 2x twice for it to actually sink in.
(And ask some of my relatives for clarity. lol)

The conclusion was... ALL of the scenes involving Famous and his mom (even the morgue scene) was his MOM having Flashbacks while she was riding home on the bus, at the end of the episode.

She had just identified his corpse, so all she could do was cry & think about his entire life.
Very Heartbreaking.

The last scene had Famous & his mom sitting on the bed together in his bedroom... but that scene happened in the past.
But seeing him alive at the very end gives the audience the impression that he actually was not dead at all. Just in hiding.

So they needed to cut back to Mom, in the present (on the bus, finally reaching her destination & getting off) before moving on to the next scene.

What they should have done to make it "crystal clear" is what the Sopranos did when Silvio killed Adriana for snitching to the FBI.

The car scene.

Adriana was "daydreaming" about driving toward Baltimore with nothing but a small red suitcase in her front seat.... in an effort to escape "mob life" & put her entire past behind her... but she snaps out of it... AS REALITY SETS IN ... and the camera cuts to "what is really happening" as Silvio turns off-road & she ultimately meets her doom. :smh:

If they had shown Adriana driving toward Baltimore in a daydream/flashback... AFTER Silvio shot her in the woods... then it would make everyone question whether Silvio actually killed Adriana or not.

And that's what Raising Kanan did.

In their own way, they showed "Famous/Adriana was still alive after Silvio shot her" so to speak.
Hence all the confusion. :dunno:

I thought she was just having flash backs throughout the day, the kid found him, called the cops, cops called her, she ID'd him and had more flashbacks on her way home.

^^ Yes, Exactly. This could be true also.

Everyone has a slightly different interpretation of the "timeline" of how the events unfolded in this episode.

That's why I said they did not edit it correctly so that the timeline is "crystal clear" for everyone watching.

When Adriana got shot on the Sopranos... they edited it properly, so there was NO ambiguity about "when" things were happening in real-time, or in a daydream, or in a flashback, or whatever.

Everyone was on the same page, as far as how it all played out.

Raising Kanan could have done a better editing job with Famous' storyline, in this one episode.
That's all I'm saying.
