Peace Monk,

Great information to help put it all in perspective.

BROTHERS, on BGOL always have some history to provide.

Monk as point of clarification are saying BAM was:

1. 13 or 14 years old and to young to have had a real impact on the gang truce. Especially, the situation surrounding the murder of Black Benjy?

Or are you saying:

2. It was remarkable for a Kat only 13 or 14 years old to be able to stop the potential warfare and repercussions regarding Black Benjy's murder? Thereby bring about a treaty with the gangs and solidifying his legacy?

3. What are the 2 different people?
A. The person BAMBATTA was and who he became (good and bad)?
B. Or are you speaking on a whole another KAT?

Please bear with me BROTHER. I just want to be clear.

Hes saying Bambaataa was too young to have an impact back then as well as saying there was an older, different individual named Bam who was involved.

Yes there was another person named BAM who was well-known in BX back then, Bambatta was just a kid and had zero influence during that metting, You can actually see the final edit where Shannon added Bambatta interview to Rubble Kings for "branding" and the "ambiguous" to me words said by Bambatta. Zulu got that "fame" cause the the music and it wasn't Zulu back then it was the Black Spades, Bambatta however he did it had the name changed I guess as the OGs faded out, died or got locked up.

Think mathematics, he was a kid back then, the whole gang truce was beyond him AND Kool HERC who had just come to NYC if I remember correctly and wasn't gang affiliated in anyway nor old enough either. Zulu didn't get changed till the 80's so how that transition came about it UNKNOWN to the masses as is what happened to Bam and his peers. Also that was not the norm, changing gang name unless your gang was subsumed by another. To this day you still have Ball Busters, Chingalings, Filthy Mad Dogs and so on.

Zulu nation also did nothing to curb the systemic violence even after they gained "fame" in just THEIR hoods much less NYC. The Guardian Angels were the ones out there in them streets and on the trains when NO COPS wanted those transit assignments.

Nor was anyone dancing to HIP HOP in those days back in as there was no rap, it was freestyle, rock, disco music and first and FOREMOST SALSA and HUSTLE DANCING, that's what brought the various gangs together for socials, not RAP, there was no RAP and the majority of gangs were "HISPANIC" in NYC.

Bambatta had nothing to do with stopping anything back then and didn't stop anything on any remote scale that the Ghetto brothers did THROUGHOUT their gang lifespan and damn sure what would have been cataclysmic gang warfare had they decalred war for Black Benjy's murder.

Conspiracy my ass.

The Ghetto Brothers , Black and Yellow Benjy were the ONLY ones running around NYC mediating gang violence in 70's for the record since some of y'all running with hearsay bullshit. Zulu's were part of the group that killed and mutilated Black Benjy during a mediation and the Ghetto Brothers basically had the entire gang world of NYC and all their outer chapters ready to mobilize and go to war against the Zulu nation and the other latin gang involved which was pretty big at the time. Black benjy Moms asked them not to or this would be a whole different NYC if they had and the subsequent peace treaty meeting at Hoe Ave.

And by the way Bambatta was like 13-14 years old when this occurred, BAM was the man back then, TWO DIFFERENT people.

Cats need to watch Rubble Kings and read the book The Compound to get a sense of what was REALLY going on at the time.

Meet Benjy a number of times, seem him perform and just talked about those days with Fabel and many others including Coochies actor. He dying of cancer btw and yes his is one of the many stories but one of the most significant for NYC surviving its worst era ever.

You know what's even funnier? When Bams was asked about the coalition the Ghetto Brothers put together, he was like we were saying, "Bring it on!", but if you notice when Hollywood from the Savage Skulls was confronting the leader of the Black Spades about what was going on, dude wasn't yelling "Bring it on!"

BTW, thanks for the info you're dropping in here.

Peace Monk,

You shed some light on alot of things.

So, all this time they been promoting this false lie about BAMBATTA and his influence on the gang peace, unification and the ZULU NATION?

So, has BAMBATTA been passing himself off as the "ORIGINAL BAM", instrumental in the BLACK SPADES and the treaty?

Or is this a media creation?

Or not enough KATS left around who know the history and are willing to speak on it?

From what I remember, back in the early to mid 80s, the media was saying he was the leader of the Black Spades. I've read that account many times. His family used to say he was a member, but not the leader.

Always been like this, the more famous soundbite ones always revise the actual story and facts. Rock Steady current "icons" stay trying to fade out the original members of Rock Steady crew.

How about this, the ORIGINAL Black Panther movement started right here in NYC. BOOM!!!!

That's crazy cause I remember the mofo always coming to pick Gregory up and that mofo was a straight fruit but folk chalked it up to Bam just being sweet.. But I guess it shouldn't be a surprise cause most closeted mofos dabble with underaged children
What is your basis for this claim? I think its dumb and untrue. Closeted people are closeted because society shames their most basic preference in the gender of their partner, not because they usually have more shameful secret lives. This is wild speculation, as logical as claiming most closeted people are really axe-murderers.

There were folks claiming to be "Black Panthers" all over the country. Including the Lowdnes County Freedom Organization which used the Black Panther as it's symbol as early as 1965.
But as far as I know there was only one BLACK PANTHER PARTY FOR SELF DEFENSE and that was in Oakland

but if there's more information available make it be known

peace

Actually, you're right. A LOT of organizations used the black panther as a symbol, but I never knew of anyone calling themselves that. That being said, the NYC thing is news to me. I had an uncle from Queens that was involved, but I always assumed that he was part of the group we know from Oakland, and that's why asking about an NYC movement never occurred to me. That's what I love about this site. Not only do you learn some shit, but you're also provoked to think sometimes, and end up researching stuff on your own.

There were a lot of different organizations back then BEFORE panther concept. Many groups had street organizers with crazy beef with each other involving violence and gunplay. Nation of Islam, Malcolm's movement, Baraka/Leroy Jones, Yoruba Temple and others some involved in these movements came up with the concept organization which took on name the Black Panther Party in hopes of uniting these factions.

The revolution in Harlem.

Very very very very short version, I am not at liberty to tell others story especially if they intend to do so themselves.

Edit...

The Black Panther SYMBOL however was first used in "Lawrence or Lounce"? County Alabama which was 80+ percent black yet had lynchings of black folks almost daily and realized the passive resistance wasn't working and wanted armed resistance.

"During the days of SNCC"

Kwame Toure/Stoley Carmichael and some others heard this and went there to encourage many radical groups there and around the country to use the symbol and push political issues. It wasn't the same as Huey and the "Arm yourself and Harm Yourself" movement as anyone knows Cali and NYC where too different creatures then and still.
