Just opened an account today via loyal3 and another on Capitalone Investing. Only playing around with $1300 since I'm a novice, hoping I don't fuck up too bad trying to learn on the fly. It feels good to finally be getting involved though.

My boy does loyal3, from what he tells and and from what Ive seen its no fees whatsoever. I went in on some Walmart, Netflix and Intel shares.
Im hoping that my CAp1 funds are transferred into that Cap1 investing account by tomorrow, because I really want to go in on GBTC, Statoil, Avis, Ford, Skullcandy and Citi before the weekend. To start, Im trying to invest in companies I believe in/use,so we'll see how this goes..

....decided against splitting up the investments and going with Cap1 for the whole portfolio. I just wanted everything in one place, trade commssion be dammed.

Since I was initially gonna split between sites, the funds that I earmarked for Walmart, Netflix and Intel wont transfer over to my account until Monday and all 3 look like they made some gainzzzz today

HES
INTC
JBLU
SKUL
STO

...still tryna learn on the fly. Automatically reinvesting dividends and capital gains is the way to go, right?

I was gonna read up and research while I saved more dough, then try to jump in around Nov, but I said fuck it and just invested 1300 to start somewhere. You can always add more as you go.

I def dont know 100% what all the terms and jargon are. Bgol and investopedia are helping... plus Cap1 Investing and Bloomberg. .

Also..no minimum balance to start an account with Cap1 Investing, 7 bux a trade..

Happy with the mutual fund returns in the RRSP portfolio. Things were a bit shaky for a few years. Up & down, stable, up considerably, down considerably. Having been making gains in recent months. Got the monthly statement yesterday. It was up $2478.

Bumper cars...

Learning some lessons I am. I had my first scare last week when my GBTC stock was droppin down to the 70s (I bought it for $97). It ended up closing at $82.

I put a little more money in my account and plan on buying a few Sony shares this week. And a few more shares of Citi & INTC, so that my current line up will be:

GBTC
Stat Oil (Im goin balls deep in STO)
Sony
Citi
Hess
Intel
Walmart

Total investment as it stands right now is only about 2Gs. I know I'm doing it the opposite of "real big", but Im ok with that while I learn more about the do's and dont's. I'm trying to set up a small month to month investment budget so that I can play the game until I'm cruising at a comfortable speed mentally. With so little $$ invested at this point, ideally I'd like to focus on fewer companies, but I also want to see how different sectors are poppin off.

Keeping my eye on Airgain, Lenovo, Twitter, Taiwan Semiconductor, SolarCity, Verizon & Vitamin Shoppe.
Trying to learn more about REITs, ETFs and Mutual Funds & Bonds. < -- These are all more long term/stable, right?

I've always regretted not buying any Tesla stock a couple of years ago, but if it continues to drop to under $200, I'm gonna buy soon

all my individual stocks are doing ok with the exception of my oil equities..imperial oil and suncor at least i'm subscribed into their DRIPs

I have BABA (bought shares at $95.03 canadian now $132.92)
Sierra wireless (bought shares at $16.62, now $18.82..had a high of $25)
Crombie REIT (bought shares at $13.07 now $15.15)
Johnson and Johnson (bought shares at $102 now $120)
Enbridge going up

I may add Tesla, Hydro one, Medx (company that's developing skin cancer detection technology)

I have a question for the fam re: brokerage accounts vs IRAs. Right now I have the former open via CapitalOne Investing, but I’m wondering if the latter might be a better look for me.

With an IRA, can I invest the money in the same manner (traditional stocks like Walmart, Sony, etc./bonds/mutual funds) that I currently do with my brokerage account?

Also, I understand the funds in an IRA may be tax deductible. Does that apply to everyone or are there some strange conditions?

Finally, I’ve also heard that there is no penalty if you decide to withdraw funds from your IRA as a first time home buyer. Is that correct?

A little about my situation: Right now I have about $1800 in my brokerage account (ballin!), but want to be able to gradually add money month to month and continue to invest in stocks (prev. mentioned in this thread) as well as MFs, bonds, etc. The money that I have in this account is all basically “savings” in my mind that I don’t plan on touching – UNLESS its to use towards a down payment on a house 3-4 years down the line, or for retirement.

So do you think I should flip this brokerage account into an IRA? Thanks in advance for the advice and responses.

if you want the money for a house in 3-4 years
then it needs to be in a high interest saving account

with investments, you have to be prepared to lose up to 30% of that money in the time you have it invested...

My Citibank and GBTC stocks have been kickin ass lately. Finally got my finances in order to the point where I can put a little bit of dough in my investment account on a monthly basis ($100).

Tried my luck and bought a few shares of this cannabis stock today: Aurora Cannabis Inc. Any insight into how that market is doing?

Word. I check the IPO section in Cap1 investing every now and then. Do you remember what company it was?
