Anyone On Here Play The Guitar/Bass?

The Strat is one of the most versatile guitar's that you can get. Even if you did want to play jazz on it, you can get those tones man. I didn't realize this for years because most of the jazz players that I saw didn't use solid body guitars. Had to change my attitude about Strats.. Using the neck pickup, adjusting tone settings and a softer attack can get the job done. A huge percentage of your tone is going to come from your fingers anyway. Check out Quinton Warren on his strat with with Jimmy Smith..

Right. I agree with what you said about the versatility of the Strat. Just can't get the tones of a Van Halen and smooth sounds of the Isley Brothers like that from my Ibanez. That sounds better for arpeggios generally. Like I said I should have done a bit more research 1st before buying. January can't get here fast enough so I can have it in my hands.

Me neither..

Love that strat, tho..

How's your playing coming along, @jackwalsh?
Great. On the bass I'm developing more speed. Currently working on speed techniques. On the guitar I'm working on the A minor scale and doing a scramble drill with in. Filling in different lines to make it sound different but in tune. Working on alternative picking as well with it. I'm realizing with alternative picking that doesn't mean every string has to be up down. When you get the hang of it you'll know when it's nessasary to go up down. Also, a few CCR songs like "Foutunate Son" and Bad Moon Rising" are helping me with chord changes. They use a lot of A, D, C G and F chords. Must know chord shapes.

Amy said something in an interview I read about the advantages of being self taught how to play a guitar. By being self taught she developed her own style. Often times when someone else is teaching you they want you to play like they play. That's why I had to break off from my uncle. Nigga wanted my style to be like his. Playing ONLY Jazz. I love Jazz, but I wanna play EVERYTHING. I don't wanna be put in a box and play one form of music. He steered me in the direction of what he wants to play and what he likes to hear. That's why I traded in my Roland 600 jazz amp for the Fender Mustang amp and why I'm trading in the George Benson for the Fender Stratocaster. The Stratocaster has more versatility that the Ibanez LB30. Once I did my research on my own I fully understand this.

So for now I'm just rocking wit the Stratocaster and my Fender American Professional P Bass.

Now, my next guitar will be my semi-hollowbody. I want a versatile collection. So I'm gonna go with the Gibson ES335. Same one B.B. King plays.

I ain't fuckin around Black. I want the best of the best so I don't have to worry about upgrading and trading in down the road. These instruments are timeless and can be kept forever with proper maintenance.

Nice gear, bruh!

Love how your Strat and Bass have matching sunbursts.

I'm with getting good gear and not having to upgrade...

When I got my Tele, I had only been playing a few months, and could've just gotten a beginner's guitar, but I knew I wanted one that I'd never need to replace...

Yeah, if you got the means just get the top of the line shit that fits what you wanna play and be done with it. Buying an instrument is an investment. They increase in value over time. If you don't have the money right away just save up towards it. The Sunburst sadowsky metroline J bass I'm gonna get is $3,780. And guess what..............that muthafucka will be mine!!!!!!!!! No exceptions. No excuses. I work hard taking care of others, I deserve top of the line equipment.

I'm pretty set on guitars...for now, but I want a real tube amp...I'm chasing tone now.

I have a Fender Performer, which has a tube channel, but that channel is the distortion one....kinda doesn't make sense to me.

I'd rather my clean channel is the tube one.

Its a great amp, but it only has 2 settings... loud, and LOUD AS HELL!

But, I got it for only a few dollars.

I actually paid a few dollars for...I believe a Fender Twin Reverb plug-in on my Amplitube...it sounds great, but I don't use it much.

What other stuff is new? You the one who put me up on Guitar Tab app.

Yeah that is weird with that amp you described. It's always best to start off clean if possible and add whatever sound your aiming for. I do need your help working with pedals. Which ones should I look at for a beginner. I definitely need a looper as well. Especially since I'm playing both bass and guitar.

Bruh, Im still experimenting with pedals, myself…

I’d say a must have is a wah wah…

tbh, I don’t keep it hooked up, cuz it runs off 9v battery and it goes through batteries like crazy, but it’s a staple of early 70s funk.

I play a lotta rock, so I want some crunch…the thing is a lotta amps have a distortion channel, so I don’t necessarily need a pedal for that.

I use a Digitech RP-100 processor, which has TONS of effects…it does more than I could ever need and you can modify the settings.

it has…I think, 45 preset effects and you can add another 45.

The cool thing about that processor, though, is it has modeling for some pretty diverse amps..

I use the Fender 65 Twin Reverb for R&B and jazzy kinda joints

Theres a Fender Tweed Deluxe mod…I use it for a lotta different sounds

Also featured are mods simulating Vox, Mesa Boogie, and Marshall amps..

So fr, Walsh. I could spend money on tons of different flangers and chorus and fuzz pedals, but haven’t graduated past a cheap processor..

PLUS...there’s also apps like AmpliTube. Its free and you can buy additional add on effects, pedals, and amps…

I like AmpliTube. It works great with iOS and again has more features than I take advantage of…

Best thing about all this is it’s either free or available really cheap used….you know me, bruh. I’m always on the look out for steals.

Man steals $8,000 guitar by stuffing it down his pants and walking out of the shop

Police in Toronto are looking for a man who stole an $8,000 guitar from a music shop last month.

The culprit was able to lift the Gibson Custom Shop 60th Anniversary ’59 Les Paul Standard...by stuffing it down his pants and walking right out the door.

Security footage showed the individual wrestling the guitar into his pants, exiting the shop, and hopping into a waiting getaway car. The shop didn't even discover the theft until a week later, at which point a police report was filed.

Man that's some wild shit. How the fuck you stuff a guitar in your pants and walk out like that? Especially a Semi-Hollowbody? Somebody working there had to be in on that shit.

Wood, your right. This song is a tad bit tricky. Though I got the intro. Question is, I'm trying to figure out where that 2 comes in on the A string.

Octave below the 4 on the G string.
Yeah, I played it over and over till I figured it out. Gotta slide quickly to get there though. I'm starting to get it. You have to play it about 10,000 times to get it down just right timing wise. A few more weeks and I will be ready to move onto the second part. James Jamerson's baselines are tricky as fuck. You don't think they are listening to them but you gotta have some speed to do them. Working on his baselines, Brothers Johnson's stomp and Kool and the Gangs baselines are helping me with technique, speed and stretching my fingers.
