The Strat is one of the most versatile guitar's that you can get. Even if you did want to play jazz on it, you can get those tones man. I didn't realize this for years because most of the jazz players that I saw didn't use solid body guitars. Had to change my attitude about Strats.. Using the neck pickup, adjusting tone settings and a softer attack can get the job done. A huge percentage of your tone is going to come from your fingers anyway. Right. I agree with what you said about the versatility of the Strat. Just can't get the tones of a Van Halen and smooth sounds of the Isley Brothers like that from my Ibanez. That sounds better for arpeggios generally. Like I said I should have done a bit more research 1st before buying. January can't get here fast enough so I can have it in my hands.
