For those of you who aren't into running I suggest you take walks. People love to say you need to hit the gym but that shit ain't for everybody. Today I ran into two childhood friends I had not seen in 20 years. One of them was so sick I didn't recognize him. His brother had to point him out.

Dude had been diagnosed with diabetes since he was in his 30's and didn't take heed. Ultimately he paid the price and now has to go through dialysis. He's even lost his vision. Growing up he was always a fatty. Now he's lost so much weight he's no longer diabetic.

His older brother who was with him is still a fatty. I told him he better start walking at least. I try to walk at least 10000 steps a day. I suggest everyone give it a try. Our sedentary lifestyle is killing many of us.

Type 2 Diabetes is no fucking joke... my cousin had a stroke at 34 just last year. He's alive, but he's gonna need assistance for the rest of his life.

That shit terrifies me. Diabetes killed my maternal Grandma. She was one the few people in the world I really trusted and cared about. Since her passing I made sure to be careful about my sugar intake. It's really not hard to do if you keep in mind the bigger picture. I saw her go through having to do dialysis and then loose her leg after a relatively short time in the hospital.

Over the years with knowledge amassed from a lifetime of doing the knowledge I have stayed healthy by veering away from the diet of my family members. People will tell you diabetes is hereditary but they neglect to acknowledge so is our diet for the most part. We love to eat what we grew up eating and then some. So if generations of your family have been diagnosed with the same ailments then it's clearly time to change or modify your diet.

So far a few of my old friends and family members have died from health related issues. However, none of them shared by dieting plan. Most of them thought western medicine would protect them and they would age like fine wine. Unfortunately by the time they realized the folly in their delusions and eating habits it was too late.

walking is the best exercise, motherfuckers will walk the mall, local food festival ,walk to the corner store but ask to walk the track with you.....yeah

Yeah man. I had my 14 year old son walking with me sometimes. After seeing my old friend today I'll be having my 14 year old son walk with me everyday. He's a techno geek honors student who loves the internet and has no interest in sports. If I wanted to punish him I'd just have to send him outside. I have to get his ass out the house if it means walking with him.

Damn right fam. My pops had that shit since his 30's but was mostly under control with medication, so I never really worried about it. When he had to go on dialysis and eventually forced to retire early....man I woke up. Totally changed up my diet cutting out hella sweets, started exercising way more and just becoming more conscious of my lifestyle. Diabetes will slowly break down your body. Get most of my walking in on the weekends plus working out during the week.

one of my coworkers just hipped me to this app called sweatcoin that pays you for walking, deposits to your bank account. I haven't fucked with it yet, just putting it out there
What's the catch? Let us know when you try it.
Running and walking on the treadmill, along with a good diet helped me lose weight and get rid of diabetes. I was pre-diabetic at 220 lbs. Now it's gone and I'm at 180 with muscle.

Especially since I can't stand gyms.
Though with the weight loss, I would like to tone the body a bit.

My friend had a stroke and died in his 20s, which is what started me on researching health topics. Completely managable but people dont want to change their lifestyle.

Walking is exercise...youre probably not going to notice any muscle gains, but you will certainly lose weight. But positive things wont happen no matter how much exercise you do if you dont stop the real "bleeding".

Drink water, stop spiking your blood sugar and killing your pancreas with garbage food and get off you lazy ass to stay mobile and youre more than half way their. Diabetes is your body screaming at you that youre doing it wrong! Momz been successfully managing diabetes since she was diagnosed 40 years ago..Not even taking insulin.

15,000-25,000 a day bad kness back and all. I feel better and my pain has decreased since I started eating and walking more. I’m recovering from surgery now but soon as I’m healthy ill be back at it again. I’m not trying to die anytime soon. Wanna send 2ONE3 a post card from Florida in a couple years when I get there for good.

Damn you dudes walk a lot.

How much walking is 20,000 steps? The only time I'm touching 10,000+ is when I cut grass.

I go to the gym and walk to cool down and get like 5,000 steps according to my phone :dunno:

I was hoping someone would make a post on this. Especially in regards to Diabetes.

I was diagnosed with Type 2 a few months ago. I was losing major weight for the last few years. And I was thinking more it was due to changing my diet after being diagnosed with high cholesterol some years back. But I hardly laid off the sweets. After a visit at The Mom's one day, she nagged to take my blood on one of her glucose monitor. My sugar level was 518. I basically told her "YOU'RE NO DAMN DOCTOR! STOP WORRYING!".

So after going to an actual Doctor, I not only have to take meds for Diabetes, but my cholesterol (again) and high blood pressure. The only Positives out of this is that I went down three pants sizes, and I still look twenty+ years younger. But I had to stop fooling myself and start increasing my Greens intake again. And lay off all the Ice Cream and shit. Some of You know the company I work for (if you followed the Geoffrey Owens threads). So it's taken a lot of Will-Power and Force. Especially after some setbacks I've faced over the years. Food, especially Sugar is totally seductive and addictive.

Walking has been more an active part of my program again.
Especially since I can't stand gyms.
Though with the weight loss, I would like to tone the body a bit.

I'm glad to read you're on the path to better health. It does require a healthy balance of eating and exercise. You can parlay that walking into bicycle riding as well. Also swimming is great form of exercise that doesn't abuse your joints. Whatever you chose please stay the course towards better health.

walking isnt exercise...that shit is regular everyday life you lazy muthafuckas!!!! Niggas trip me out with the pedometers tambout i took 1k steps. nigga so what, you are alive and that aint shit

This is the type of negative shit that keeps many from doing so much as getting up and taking a walk because they think it won't make a difference.

I hope you have a speeding recovery.

I also knew someone who was a childhood friend that died at 27 from being a fatty. Ever since we were children he was a fatty. In fact he was the fat kid in the neighborhood and all through primary school. I stopped fucking with him when I saw some of the foul shit he was doing and how he was living but I won't get into that.

One day a friend of mine expressed concern about fatty and I said I'd I give him 6 months tops before he's dead. My friend was shocked I said that and he though it was cold and fucked up. I told my friend who's also friends with the fatty that there are consequences for such a love affair with sweets and snacks. The fat dude died two weeks following my statement.

Drinking water is definitely a great thing to do. I drink at least 6 glasses of water a day. More often I drink more water than that. Staying away from fried food and crap food in general is must. Exercise is key as well. That's why to those who don't think it will matter or know what they can do to make a difference I suggest at least start walking. Hopefully that walking will be the inspiration to other forms of exercise. However, walking alone isn't at all a bad thing.

I don't believe in just walking..but I sware..I got a bish or 2..that will walk yo ass til u drop..dont get that walking shit confused..brah

I don't believe in walking alone but it's way better than sitting around waiting for the circumstances that lead to joining a gym or work out plan seen on late night TV where everyone looks happy to be jumping around sweaty. I prefer to ride a bicycle rather than run. When I do run it's through the woods on softer ground. Still though just to get up and walk is not commonly done as much as folks used to.

I first noticed that in Florida. Damn near no one walked further than to the car and at malls or shopping centers. I had never seen so many fat people in my life. I'd walk for miles at a time everyday and folks would look at me like I was crazy when they heard how much I walked or where I walked to and from. The funny part was some of the people were from the islands like me and I know for a fact their asses knew walking in the sun long before they knew air conditioning and driving.

Interesting point. I just came back from an hour-and-a-half KnightRide. Since I live out here in the country, I get on my bike, put on an audiobook and ride around my neighborhood at night, sometimes at 2 or 3 in the morning, just because I can.

Often I don't see more than a half dozen cars. But, my basic Trek is about 9 miles give or take when I do it. I just got a membership at Planet Fitness last Wednesday and I've gone every weekday but today

Tonight I walk inside the golf course that's not too far from my house since they left the gate open

That's great man. Mixing it up makes exercising seem less like a chore. That bicycle riding is my favorite.
