I got hooked on step counts 2 years ago. I slap on my watch as soon as I wake up. Since I'm in IT, there is no way I could get 20k steps in a day unless I'm at an amusement park. I hover around 8-10k per day. I try to get in around 3k steps before 7:30am. If I do another 2k at lunch time, I'm on pace for a good day.

Props to those who are working on their health.

I saw the writing on the wall. A lot of my family members had it some are gone some are still here. I'm on a plant based diet 5 to 6 days per week with 1 or 2 cheat days if I feel like it along with an intermittent fasting regiment (11am to 7pm). Personally, I've always preferred the structure on some levels. Bloodwork has been looking beautiful so I cant complain. Eat clean meaningful meals keep the crap to a minimum.

Here are a few stretching exercise videos. I suggest getting into stretching as well.

Good drop. The fam should also get a roller so they can roll their hamstrings and other muscles. After playing football from 9-25 and gaining about 30lbs afterwards my flexibility had become shot. Jogging, rolling, stretching, lifting weights and fasting knocked off the extra 30lbs and helps me maintain.

walking isnt exercise...that shit is regular everyday life you lazy muthafuckas!!!! Niggas trip me out with the pedometers tambout i took 1k steps. nigga so what, you are alive and that aint shit

I LOL when I read your post. You are absolutely right. Many of our lives are so sedentary and void of natural exercise. Some people walk 6 miles to work round trip and that's not even a long walk if you do it daily. Exercise should be natural activities built into our lives. It is strange how big of an epidemic this is for our people. My grandparents were always healthy and walked everywhere or rode the subway.

Props to everyone putting in work. Gave my mom props about 8 - 10 years back. She's in better health/shape now in her late-60s than she was 20+ years back in her 40s. Does plenty of walking in her city (lives about 10 mins on foot from downtown) ... dragonboats with a team & goes to her local YMCA for free weights & a cardio class. Told her flat-out she looked healthier/younger and she really appreciated that. Saw her this weekend when she was in town & she's keeping it up. Not as much gym time, but still excess walking & dragonboating. Luckily hasn't had any major injuries or aches/pains causing setbacks. Hope it continues that way. Has always eaten pretty well too ... so that probably helps. Gave up alcohol a few years ago and goes to AA. Felt she had a problem for awhile when she noticed how often she drank socially. Also gave up weed, haha. She took up smoking in her early-60s for awhile. Funny stuff. Her boyfriend still smokes. He gave up drinking too. Good dude - has a chill outlook on life. Hopefully good genes in his family too ... has a mom who is 99yo (he's visiting her out of province now) and still in good health. No major concerns.

Thanks Lexx. Props to you on involving your children as well. Yeah - mom`s always had a pretty good outlook on life as far as fitness goes. Talks the talk and walks the walk. I remember back in `94 ... she really got into the World Cup & helped found a local women`s soccer league and played in that for a few years. She`d always been around the game with us kids playing in leagues ... but just hadn`t gotten around to it herself, but the pros really inspired her that year and seeing how much us and our friends as kids were into it as well. It`s reassuring to know she`s in good health too ... as you hear about family and friends getting older. Have heard a number of stories about people in retirement breaking their legs or hips in falls, etc. By keeping up her health ... her mobility & durability has improved.

Thanks man. It's really important that we never become complacent about our health. I've always considered people to be very fragile creatures compared most other creatures on the planet. I haven't been walking much over the past few days due to the weather.

You're welcome. Very well said on your part about people being more fragile creatures than they often realize. Many are in the mindset that they're invincible ... which probably explains all the shitty driving out there and people jeopardizing those around them not realizing the domino effect on other drivers trying to be safe. Getting back to the health side of things ... yeah ... it's funny how the LITTLE shit and simple modifications or life hacks are helpful. Trying to limit one's daily stress ... leaving the house a bit earlier to allow for an easier commute so you aren't rushed and putting undue pressure on yourself to get to places/work on time ... buying more fruits & veggies so that you're more inclined to make more salads or smoothies at home ... you're not in a rush? Don't park next to the shopping mall entrance ... park further away so you get an extra few minutes of walking in (just because & for no other reason than that). Not someone who cares to talk on the phone? Take all your phone calls standing ... that way you can walk around ... stretch ... do calf raises, whatever. My late uncle (passed 21 years ago) was never much for phone calls, but he jokingly told everyone that he stood during his calls as he loved doing calf raises (he was an avid runner and cyclist). Said - "I minus whale get some exercise in, right?" Drink more water and tea. Cut down on the soda/juice/alcohol. You live in a condo or apartment, or you're on vacation? Take the stairs once in awhile instead of it always being the elevator. That last shit actually works pretty well ... was on holiday last year staying on the 4th floor. Took the stairs the entire week - added up to thousands of extra stairs climbed that week (especially when you're on holiday mode and eating/drinking more than normal). As you noted too ... walking ... easily one of the best forms of exercise out there. Same for swimming. Both are widely known for not putting major undue wear & tear on bones/ligaments, but allowing the body to get in motion and doing wonders for the heart/core/legs & glutes ... or the pecs/delts/back.
