Dude had major talent, but like someone mentioned, he was trying to hard to be another Prince.

Was HE trying to be another Prince, or was the label trying to MAKE HIM another Prince. Like they tried to make Dru Hill another Jodeci telling them to steal K-Ci's riff (I'm sorry, I said that and thought of the Five Heartbeats)

Groove Theory

Xzibit.I thought that the Restless LP would have been when he blew up

Groove Theory...the dude Bryce became a VERY successful producer:yes:

And she was/is BEAUTIFUL.

I swear if they had allowed some real MCs on their records the would STILL be making records today...their beats and her vice were AMAZING!

If I had the skills
I would make a mixtape matching THEIR beats with Rappers like Jay, AZ, Rakim, TI etc.

SHIT...X should have been a superstar off Paparazzi alone.

Should have stayed with Dre and Em...

He had great albums and videos WAYYY ahead of their time:yes:

Didn't quite fail, but just didn't blow up as I woulda thought and hoped. Then got locked up but presently free and back on the independent scene now at least.

The Firm
Nas + Az + Foxy + Dre = A billion albums sold.....NOT.

AZ
A couple of verses on a Nas record gave birth to his whole career. This was the start of the "mafioso" rap era and thought dude would be huge. Personally, I think his "elmer fudd" pronounciation limited his appeal.

Shyne
This guy was the second coming of Biggie. It was erie hearing this guy spit. It was like he channeling the late great B.I.G. After the novelty wore off (which was very quickly), it was apparent that he just sounded like B.I.G. There were more things than just his voice that made B.I.G one of the best to do it. Going to jail didn't help Shyne either.

The hype behind dude made me think he was gonna blow.

Despite his songwriting success, dude never really made it as an artist, at least not as much as he really should.

Pap-lyrically of course but he wasn't a hip hop ARTIST. He cant switch up flows that greatly limits you and he cant really FLOW on a track...hate Nelly all you want but he can FLOW...he understands melody and cadence...

The Dream is such a great song writer and producer (ie Ryan Leslie) those types RARELY become mega-stars...but he has a very respectable string of hits, I usually judge superstardom on if a DJ in a club can play a STEADY string of your records and the entire club (thugs, hipsters, ladies, old heads, etc.) sing along dance along and drink along...

^^^ you dudes need your faces slapped off for calling DREAM a great songwriter

he has a lot of credits but so does tyler perry....

people accept songs that sound like a 9 year old wrote them now so he is getting a lot of work...but that doesn't make him talented :hmm:

look I aint saying the dude is Gamble /Huff BUT he is making songs that have caught the public ear...

POP music is NOT easy to create, I understand most of the music today is disposable and I agree, If I was making a list of the top 25 R&B producers he probably wouldn't be on it ...

BUT "UMBRELLA" was a MASSIVE CAREER DEFINING HIT...that is still played and will be played...

B.O.B. recorded Airplanes and Nothing on You...

now that shit cant mess with Exhibit C but I GUARANTEE for the next 10 years at wedding s and birthday parties they WILL play those songs...

The-Dream and his writing are overrated to me. Dream was hot for a minute because he was packaged with producers L.O.S. and Tricky Stewart.

Unfortunately he came out when there was a big SOUL Revival and got lost in the wave...so many sounded similar and there were just too many acts.

angie stone, jiill scott, india arie, dave hollister van hunt, anthony hamilton, etc.

Yeah you're right bruh... he got drowned out by the deluge of neo-soul acts. But this dude has something special and he's not easy to categorize.. he's still one of my favorite artists to this day. And his live performances... :itsawrap:

This chick is so fucking sexy to me.... dimepiece for real. :smh:

Co-sign Groove Theory and especially Amiel Larrieux...to this day she is fine as hell...had one of her solo CDs a few years back, and it wasn't too bad. I really expected more from that group, as they were hitting the scene right in that post-Brand New Heavies era when Neo-Soul was coming on strong. Speaking of Brand New Heavies, whatever happened to N'Dea Davenport?

Add to the list: City High, Kipper Jones and Mica Paris (remember her?)

This dude was supposed to be the next one in the game.. seriously heard a couple songs when I was in college and had all my boys buy his cd.. .we were bumping this shit hard and then his cousin (Lamar Odom) signed him to his "label" Rich Soil or something... I remember this guy was on the radio free styling with 50 cent right before 50 really blew up and he had 50 scared to grab the mic.

also he had a beef with Clue and Fab and Clue would never play his songs on the radio back when he was the main DJ doing it.

Kid was nice.

i do...

the MCs you named never had that "superstar" quality but were each very talented even gifted MCs...

I think Killer with the Outkast behind him had the most potential...
