So question from those that have seen it. Does the movie actually have any stakes or risk for Black Adam, or is this just a Rock/superhero version of John Wick were he's invincible and it just 2 hours of showing different ways he can beat people up or kill them?

Because I have no desire to spend 2 hours watching the rock beat people up and crack jokes. And would rather spend that time doing something else if that's all the movie is.

Also, if that's all the movie is, I already know everything about it and have saved 2 hours.
movie was 6/10

6/10. The action is worth paying to see on the big screen. The script was pretty bad, the acting was rather poor. Throwing up the rock symbol was hilarious. Fighting zombies with pipes and machetes was ridiculous and nobody had a gun, anywhere? Then they just disappear like endgame.

It seemed liked this was supposed to be Rated R, but the edits destroyed the flow of the movie. The winged character didn't pull off the pain at all.

This really coud have been A great movie.

And Marvel movies haven't been good since Endgame. How does a Thunder god get taken out by a taser? For me its the little things about Black Adam he doesn't walk in the movie.
He levitates over regular people like a god.

He is susceptible to eternium..also the goal is to get him to say his name so he can resort back to his human form.

As much as I hate DC.. This shit was fire to me.. Black Adam has always been my fave DC character, cause he has no fucks to give.. I only give it an 8/10 because there wasn't enough mofo's getting murked like the comics version.. I hope that when they do the next movie with Supes, that they keep it like the comics and cartoons.. Black Adam will beat the brakes off of Supes even if Supes isn't holding back..

that is completely your opinion.

and factually inaccurate on a couple of levels

based on box office or audience reaction or critical acclaim?

Far from Home, No Way Home, Shang Chi, Thor and Dr. Strange

Broke records. got great reviews, record streams and VOD

In some way shape or form hit at least ONE of those targets

and they ALL made money period

and the Spiderman is considered a classic

and Shang Chi got them a VERY valuable foothold in the Asian market.

All those movies

Even a Marvel "flop" is most studios annual goal.

Black Adam seems to have done the MAIN job

make peolep WANT to see a DC movie that was just fun.

Not extra dark or a complete departure from the main cinematic universe.
How is it factually inaccurate?

You sound like one of those people who says that because of record sales and audience reaction Vanilla Ice who had better record sales and or Eminem or Drake for that matter is a better MC than Ice Cube, Big Daddy Kane or Scarface all of those guys had better record sales. I wish someone would tell me Drake is better than Scarface.

I'm sure Nikki Minaj has better record sales than Queen Latifah but I'd still rather listen to Queen Latifah.

Here's the thing about Black Adam movie is it on the level of the Dark Knight or the Dark Knight Returns no but unlike the Marvel movies I didn't see any nut punches or diminishing of the male character like I did in Shang Chi, Thor and Dr. Strange.

As for Spider-Man its still a Sony property I don't particularly care for the Tom Holland (hey Mr. Stark can I suck your dick version) of the character Sony doesn't seem to do some of the things that Marvel does.

A few things I know I'm going to see in a Kevin Feige Marvel movie.
I know I'm not going to see a true comic book version of the character.
I know I'm going to see some female empowerment shit and some male weakening shit ie a nut punch Loki, Thor, Iron Man, Shang Chi, Guardians of the Galaxy, Black Panther, Captain Marvel.
I know I'm going to see a bunch of corny jokes.
I also know its a possibility I'm going to see some gay shit (the Eternals, Loki, Dr. Strange, Wakanda Forever)

:smh:except Spidey (Sony) - all lost money or broke even

domestic box office needs to exceed double the production budget

I am not going to accept that definition as law.

We ALL Know hollywood receipts are f*cked up

I've heard so many different ways to calculate something is a hit ot flop.

You REALLY want to go and do the math on every superhero movie released since endgame marvel or dc to see what is a TRUE SUCCESS or not?

How we gonna account for streaming?

And covid?

We adding VOD?

I hear what your saying but my overall point is...

You LIKING something is subjective

If you like it and it makes money then it's a hit

You hate it makes money the public is dumb

We been over thar.

Is there REALLY fool proof metric to gauge that?

So breaking records doesn't matter?

How do you measure social impact? (Which was my point with Shang Chi not actual Asian box office)

You can't just SAY every movie after end game sucked like that's a FACT.

you can say you personally ain't like them ok yeah

After that we can all play numbers

But we been over all this before.

Honestly I don't care about all that.

You know I watch ALL this sh*t period

This my thing. My childhood. Some of the best time of life was around comic shops conventions etc.

Most of these dudes don't appreciate how this stuff was impossible to imagine

It's a genre. EVERYTHING will not can not be a CLASSIC.

Every comic book was not good

Every cartoon was not good.

I am not not the official judge

A real actual creator writer director producer?

Now that's different they got skin in the game

We just fans.

This in reality is out my pay grade.

When discussions stop being fun.

I'm out.

When dudes on some I hate it and I'm going to scour the internet and yell at everyone who likes it?

Nah. That ain't it.

My best times on bgol have been debating with you and my brothers like the old days in the comic shop. Debating. Fun. It was never serious.

We never had someone in our circle wallowing in hate watching like a pig in sh*t.

And that's what I see a lot of dudes doing.

Saying you don't like or dislike something and then demanding they agree with that angry energy?

is not healthy fun debate.

It's like porn. I can't define exactly what that it is about that behavior

but I know that type is unhealthy.

went in with very low expectations and was pleasantly suprised
still feel like the Rock hasnt had a truly iconic role/performance and a movie that has lived up to his talents

nonetheless this was fun
visually it had a lot in common with Synderverse films and as advertised Black Adam was catching bodies. But unlike Synder films the hero was likeable and they tried to incorporate some humor and human characters that mattered. Some of it was cheesy and cliched. As a comic reader I saw the twist coming but it was effective. I liked Hawkman & Bronson as Dr Fate. Hawkman was basically a combination of Batman & Black Panther and was nice to see black ppl in charge.

my only complaint is that the cameo shouldve featured Shazam instead of Supes and their should've been more call outs to the Shazzam film (I know there were a few but it could fly over some casuals)

It wasn't jokey. The Rock plays this like he did Scorpion King. Very dark, and very straight laced.

here is the problem with comic book movies in general and dc comic book movies in particular.

if you make a comic book movie about comic book characters there is a good chance is it going to be a marginally good movie at best. this is dc's biggest issue.

if you make a genre movie i.e. coming age, spy series, revenge motive, etc and flesh out the character motives and actually have 3 arcs that tie together and make sense you will have a spectacular movie regardless of if it is a comic book movie or not. for instance the captain america trilogy is one of the strongest entries in the mcu. it was a coming of age war movie that morphed into an espionage series that just happened to include comic elements.

in addition to that i have always contended that any of these comic book or action thriller type movies are only as good as the antagonist.

black adam was okay. it had the bones to be a much better movie.

also, imo man of steel was one of the better entries in the dceu.

and it had an excellent antagonist.

the antagonist for black adam was an afterthought and keeping it real why do many of dc's villians look the same.

shit is annoying.

Read thru the reviews you cats posted.

It’s looking like a good 50/50 on it being a good/bad movie.

Looks to be more on how folks interpret it and what they were expecting. My impression is it falls under the category of “Good Entertainment”, for what it’s worth.

FYI.

DC is following Disney’s route on when to put theatrical debuts on its streaming platform.

They both are doing the 45 day streaming debut, so this flick is looking to debut on HBO MAX in early December.

I will be home Christmas weekend, I’ll wait for it on HBO MAX, sitting on the couch, wrapped in a blanket with a cold beer and snacks, cuddled next to my wife cuz she a fan of the Rock and getting a handjob from her while the flick is playing…..that was too much information for you cats.

HaHa!!!

This shit was great. Action and pace was good. The story was ok but it wasn't bad enough to make the movie a bad movie. The violence in this movie was awesome and they kept to the no nonsense Adam like in the books.

You mean in the first Thor movie? He was stripped of his powers at the time. The Destoyer would have killed him too, had he not got his powers back for being "worthy".

Did anyone else pick up on Black Adam "destroying" the JL when he fought Hawkman in that kid's room?

Like, every poster, action figure, comic of every JL member was hit, sliced, punched, thrown into, broken or torn in one way or another and every single time there seemed to have been a slow motion effect applied to it so you had no choice but to see it...

The biggest most blatant example of this is when the door to the room closed, there's a picture of the Superman logo on a poster taped to the door and then BOOM a hand comes flying right thru that logo.

I give it a solid meh. There were a couple of good set pieces. Aldous Hodge is a good actor, the rock is not. I looked at my watch at least 4 times and paused it twice. To me that ain't a good movie. To top it off, I've seen this movie before about five times only it had five different titles.

These days people can't tell a good actor from a bagel.

:smh::smh::smh:

There are entire industries around reviewing movies. Hell there are posts in here reviewing the movie. What’s the last movie you went to see not knowing anything about it?

You’re just in your feelings because you like this movie.

The NY Times has been reviewing movies for a hundred years. The fuck you talking about “this generation?”

You ever heard of a site called rotten tomatoes? Lmao.

Niggas like a movie and now they’re against movie reviews and people using them.

And have the nerve to be vexed that someone asks for information before they drop $100 on seeing a movie and I didn’t even ask YOU.

I hate how this generation does online comment.

I just saw this movie tonight. I don’t know what you niggaz talking about saying it was just okay. The action was better than previous DC and Marvel movies. It had some funny scenes that didn’t overdo it. The plot was decent and the acting was decent. I would give it a 9/10.

This alone guarantees it’s a stream only flick.

I'm not a shazam fan and I haven't seen the movie yet.... I just been noticing that in the last 20 years or so audience movie viewing habits have shifted to the point where social media has destroyed movie magic and filmmaking :smh::smh::smh:

yall don't watch movies..you analyze them even before the script is written or one shot is filmed. Yall want scene by scene break downs the first day the shit comes out!

Leaked scripts
BTS vids of principle photography
Endless theories of storylines
And when ya'll dont get your way you harass the studio until they cave in and change shit

Here's the thing that really irks me about how this generation watches tv and movies...there's no magic and discovery and figuring things out or being presented with new information. Everything...damn near EVERYTHING in movies and tv shows have some sort of source material and/or revealed backstory that's known AND on top of that spoilers and near spoilers in articles and BTS footage is used to promote the thing so much so that you (not you specifically but you this generation) don't watch movies with the idea of magic and discovery...your just comparing whats happening on the screen to what you already know. And if things don't match up then it SUCKS!

Theres been articles and such saying theres a twist in a movie...guess what....just saying there's a twist...ruins the twist. What makes a twist great is that it's NOT EXPECTED... it's like telling a person that something going happen for them on their birthday...even if you don't reveal what that thing is...they know to expect something...and that ruins the surprise in and of itself. And many times the flick is STILL in the theaters. :smh: :smh: :smh:

If The Empire Strikes Back came out today...there would news articles with headlines like
  • 5 THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT DARTH VADER
  • THE TWIST ENDING TO EMPIRE STRIKES BACK EXPLAINED
  • WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT LUKE, LEIA AND THE FORCE
  • OBI-WAN AND YODA'S CONNECTION TO DARTH VADER

They do shit like this ALL the time now and its pisses me off. There's no fun in movie watching anymore everything has to be overly analyzed TWO WEEKS BEFORE AND TWO SECONDS after its come out. :smh::smh::smh:

Try DISCOVERING a movie.....watch it with NO expectations and find out whats its about as your watching it.... try that and see how it feels... I'm serious.

They used to call my generation instant gratification kids...hell THIS is instant gratification syndrome at its worst.
