Good post. :yes:His rant is weird (Prigozhin) and has lots of weird pause moments like this in it. :smh:

I wish Beau would have framed this better given that Prigozhin is battling not only the mainstream Russian military but also the much more hawkish elements of the FSB represented by Girkin. They even had this weird public beef with Girkin's manhood essentially being challenged:

"However, Mr Prigozhin's last public speech [Yevgeny Prigozhin, the founder of the Wagner Group PMC - ed.], in which a stream of the most blatant lies was uttered against me, completely rules out my participation in this PMC. I will not be able to serve under the leadership of a person who directly accused me of treason against Russia. Not to mention the dirty insults that accompanied these accusations. That's it," Girkin said.

He is also rumored to be trying to take control of a political party which I believe is insurance so he doesn't get his own Tatarsky moment:

Recall the killing of Tatarsky occurred at cafe owned or formerly owned by Prigozhin. He even gave Tatarsky a Wagner sledge hammer at his funeral. :smh:

Somebody (I think FSB) sent him a clear message with the Tatarsky killing and this rant is his way of dealing with the "establishment" russian military/FSB he is beefing with. He questions their masculinity/commitment just like he did with Girkin and even Zelensky back in February when it looked like Bakhmut's fall was imminent back in February

Just my view of things/opinions so it will be interesting to see if/when the truth emerges.

Multiple Russian Submarines Moving in 'Strange Routes,' U.K. Says

Russian submarines have been traveling on "strange routes" that deviate from those deemed typical by Western defense officials, according to British Defence Secretary Ben Wallace.

Wallace said the U.K. had been tracking Russian submarines "in the North Atlantic and in the Irish Sea and in the North Sea doing some strange routes that they normally wouldn't do," Wallace said Tuesday while speaking to the media during a visit to Washington, D.C. The British Defence Ministry confirmed the remarks to Newsweek on Wednesday.

Alarm bells have been ringing among NATO allies about Russia's underwater fleet, which one expert previously told Newsweek is "the critical challenge that the United States faces." There have been increasing indications of Russian submarines operating off U.S. and Mediterranean coasts, in what appear to be "Soviet-style submarine deployments" reminiscent of the Cold War.

Russian state media reported earlier this year that a new "division" of submarines carrying nuclear-capable Poseidon "super-torpedoes" would be created for the Pacific Fleet as early as next year. In recent years, Russia has looked to upgrade its submarine fleet and has about 58 vessels making up one of the world's largest underwater forces, according to the non-profit organization Nuclear Threat Initiative.

Last week, Russia began large-scale military drills of its Pacific Fleet, described by Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu as a "surprise inspection" in a Kremlin readout of a conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin. More than 25,000 troops, 89 aircraft and 12 submarines were involved in the exercises on April 14, he said.

Putin, in response to Shoigu's report, said the naval assets could be used "elsewhere" during the ongoing war in Ukraine, adding that the navy's development "remains relevant."

In May 2021, Wallace told British newspaper The Telegraph that Russian submarines surrounded the British coastline, branding Moscow as London's "number one adversary threat." At least seven Russian naval ships and a kilo-class submarine were seen around the U.K., including in the Irish Sea for the first time, in the year up to the report, according to the newspaper.

"We're regularly visited by nosy Russian ships, and we are regularly visited now by a number of Russian warships," Wallace added.

Earlier this week, Wallace met with U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, who lauded the AUKUS trilateral defense pact as one that "will break down barriers and usher in a new era of U.S.-U.K. defense cooperation." The tripartite security agreement between the U.S., U.K. and Australia, announced in September 2021, will furnish Canberra with nuclear-powered submarines, understood to be a move countering China's influence in the Indo-Pacific.

Newsweek has reached out to the Russian Defense Ministry via email for comment.

A fifth of Russian prisoners recruited to fight in Ukraine are HIV positive, with convicts promised anti-viral drugs if they agreed to fight

AA1a9ObW.img

Russian soldiers, captured during the Russia-Ukraine war, with their hands tied behind their back at a Ukrainian prison.

  • A fifth of recruits in Russian prisoner units are HIV positive, says Ukraine, per The New York TImes.
  • Prisoners were recruited to join the Wagner Group in Ukraine with promises of anti-viral medication.
  • Captured soldiers said they agreed because Russian prisons deprived them of effective HIV treatment.
About a fifth of recruits sent to fight in Ukraine from Russian prisons are HIV positive, according to estimates by Ukrainian authorities, with several captured Russian soldiers telling The New York Times they were promised life-saving anti-viral medications if they agreed to fight.

One detainee told The Times that he took the offer to fight in Ukraine because the Russian prison system deprived him of supplies of effective medications that he needed to survive.

Timur, 37, told the publication that in prison he was put on HIV medications that he feared were ineffective, and that he worried that he wouldn't survive on these treatments for the duration of his sentence. He was identified only by his first name in order to avoid retaliation if he returned to Russia.

Timur told the newspaper that in December he was offered an alternative — six months with the infamous Wagner Group fighting in Ukraine in exchange for a pardon and the promise of supplies of anti-virals.

"I understood I would have a quick death or a slow death," he said, referring to the high death toll among Wagner Group soldiers. "I chose a quick death."

While anti-viral treatments don't cure HIV, they can reduce viral loads, making people less susceptible to illness caused by a weakened immune system.

Another HIV-positive soldier who fought with the Wagner Group, identified only as Ruslan, told The Times that he joined the mercenary group in December, one year into an 11-year sentence for drug dealing.

He said that at the time he feared for his life because the medications he was receiving in a penal colony were not suppressing his HIV viral load. Last year he was bedridden with pneumonia, and later became sick while at a training camp for the Wagner Group, according to the newspaper.

Ruslan said he expected to die from an illness in prison as a result of ineffective treatment, so he was ultimately grateful to get an offer to fight in return for medication, according to the Times.

Still, it's a bleak exchange.

The Wagner Group is the main pro-Russian force currently fighting to capture the Ukrainian city of Bakhmut, a battle that US Gen. Mark Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, called a "slaughter-fest" for Russian forces.

Speaking at a press conference in February, John Kirby, the Coordinator for Strategic Communications at the National Security Council in the White House, said the group was treating its convict recruits as "cannon fodder."

Putin’s Nightmare Comes True: 2,000 Tanks Destroyed in Ukraine

AA16D1wV.img

Russian T-90 Tank

Russia has been forced to rely on antiquated weapons systems in Ukraine. This is because for 14 months, Moscow has suffered extreme losses in personnel, material and equipment, draining its stockpiles across the board. Perhaps the most staggering losses Moscow has suffered are of its main battle tanks. In February, the International Institute for Strategic Studies estimated that Russia was down 2,000 tanks — more than half of its operational fleet.

In the early months of the invasion, Moscow relied more heavily on its more modern MBTs, including the T-72B3, T-72B3M and T-80BV/U variants. Industry experts believe that nearly two-thirds of these top-of-the-line armored vehicles have been lost.

Without its premiere tanks in surplus, Moscow’s armored corps turned to the Soviet-era T-62.

Introducing the T-62 MBT

When footage began to circulate this summer of dozens of retired T-62s being delivered to Ukraine, the true state of Russia’s MBT arsenal came into sharp focus. The UK’s Defense Ministry was first to verify the incorporation of these aging armored vehicles in Ukraine, stating that “as a result of losses during hostilities, the Russian enemy was forced to withdraw from storage T-62 tanks to recruit reserve battalion tactical groups that are being formed to be sent to Ukraine. In addition, equipment that was damaged and restored at repair and renovation plant is used to replenish the loss of weapons and military equipment.”

The T-62 was introduced into service in the early 1960s and quickly became the standard tank for the USSR, as it replaced the T-55 MBT. Perhaps the most significant advancement the T-62 featured was the unique positioning of its main gun and machine gun, which were mounted coaxially.

The T-62s delivered to Ukraine do sport several enhancements from their predecessors. According to The Drive, the T-62s in Ukraine are fitted with a raised slat or cage armor to help defend against anti-tank missiles.

What Happened to Moscow’s More Advanced Tanks?

The Kremlin often boasted that its new and formidable T-80 MBTs could blow adversarial tanks out of the water. Yet the sheer number of these variants lost in Ukraine suggests otherwise. The influx of advanced Western weapons into Ukraine, including anti-tank weapons like the U.S. FGM-148 Javelin, British NLAW, and Swedish AT4, have certainly aided the country’s defensive efforts.

There are further problems for Russian tanks and their operators. According to an Oryx report, roughly 34% of the country’s tank losses were actually due to abandonment by crew members. Ill-equipped and unprepared for battle, many Russian troops simply left their MBTS behind.

Moscow also lacks the resources and funds to adequately maintain and upgrade its fleet of tanks. According to Newsweek, “the Russian army's ability to sustain their own equipment in the field is dismal. Tanks break down more under combat conditions, and we're seen lots of photographs of Russian tank 'dumps' found by Ukraine after advancing where disabled tanks sat unrepaired in the dozens. So not only are their combat losses very serious, they are unable to get tanks back into action that suffer mechanical breakdowns in the field.”

While both Moscow and Kyiv have provided different tank-loss estimations, they undoubtedly exaggerate numbers to support their respective propaganda efforts. Therefore, it is extremely challenging to garner exact equipment-loss estimates.
