It wasn't a serious case, but I've been on a jury. You'd be surprised at how many people strictly look at the law and not factor in common sense shit especially since it's not them potentially going to jail even over a minor thing. Don't let the jury drag out the verdict. You'll have people found guilty or innocent just because people want to go home. Judges don't like allowing a hung jury. My father ( a lawyer) gave it a name but basically the judge stalls the jury out until they give a unanimous verdict.
For instance, if they can prove that Johnathan did technically hurt her finger, someone we'll say by the law he is guilty of assaulting her. Not factoring in the fact that her finger likely got hurt because he was trying to get away or get his items from back from her.
That's not even factoring in police officers being trusted just because they allegedly have experience and are trained. They've seen domestic abuse regularly so they know the signs. Some jury members will blindly accept the testimony of an officer even when in this instance the officers are likely biases given they questioned how he could afford his place.
Actually guilty of the crime or not, people thought Tory Lanes would get off too and he's in prison.
