Prince Autopsy Completed; Singer Reportedly Overdosed Days Before Death

The autopsy for Prince has been completed, but completed toxicology tests are likely to take weeks, according to the Midwest Medical Examiners Office. The office began the autopsy at 9 a.m. CDT and it was completed at 1 p.m. local time.

The body will be released to family later today, the office said in a statement that continued:

“As part of a complete exam, relevant information regarding Mr. Nelson’s medical and family history will be gathered. Anything which could be relevant to the investigation will be taken into consideration. Midwest Medical Examiners Office will not release information until the exam is complete and all results are obtained. Gathering the results will take several days and the results of a full toxicology scan could likely take weeks.”

Prince reportedly overdosed on Percocet just days before he was found dead on Thursday in Minnesota. He was using the drug to treat a hip problem tied to corrective surgery in 2010, according to TMZ.

Prince’s jet plane made an emergency landing in Moline, Ill., last Friday due to a medical emergency. His rep told Variety at the time that the singer was struggling with the flu.

But, according to the new report, Prince had to receive a “save shot,” an injection or nasal spray to treat drug overdoses, at the airport.

He was also seen pacing outside a Walgreen’s the day before his death.

Percocet is a highly-addictive painkiller that treats moderate to severe pain. It’s a combination of acetaminophen and oxycodone.

Authorities found Prince unresponsive in an elevator when they arrived Thursday morning, responding to a 911 call. First responders tried CPR, but were unable to revive the pop star and he was pronounced dead at 10:07 a.m.

Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding Prince’s death. His autopsy will be performed on Friday.

I'm sure someone else prob said this earlier but the lyrics to Let's Go Crazy just hit me : "Not gonna let the elevator bring us down"

And he met his end in an elevator.

Called the shots and lived life on his own terms!
I wonder if it was traveling up at the moment he left?

"Dearly beloved
We are gathered here today
To get through this thing called life

Electric word life
It means forever and that's a mighty long time
But I'm here to tell you
There's something else
The after world

A world of never ending happiness
You can always see the sun, day or night

So when you call up that shrink in Beverly Hills
You know the one, Dr. Everything'll Be Alright
Instead of asking him how much of your time is left
Ask him how much of your mind, baby

'Cause in this life
Things are much harder than in the after world
In this life
You're on your own

And if the elevator tries to bring you down
Go crazy, punch a higher floor1

If you don't like the world you're living in
Take a look around you
At least you got friends

You see I called my old lady
For a friendly word
She picked up the phone
Dropped it on the floor
(Ah, ah) is all I heard

Are we gonna let the elevator
Bring us down
Oh, no let's go!

Let's go crazy
Let's get nuts
Let's look for the purple banana
'Til they put us in the truck, let's go!

We're all excited
But we don't know why
Maybe it's 'cause
We're all gonna die

And when we do (When we do)
What's it all for (What's it all for)
You better live now
Before the grim reaper come knocking on your door

Tell me, are we gonna let the elevator bring us down
Oh, no let's go!

Let's go crazy
Let's get nuts
Look for the purple banana
'Til they put us in the truck, let's go!

C'mon baby
Let's get nuts
Yeah
Crazy

Let's go crazy

Are we gonna let the elevator bring us down
Oh, no let's go!
Go crazy

I said let's go crazy (Go crazy)
Let's go, let's go
Go
Let's go

Dr. Everything'll be alright
Will make everything go wrong
Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill
Hang tough children

He's coming
He's coming
Coming

Take me away!

According to LA Reid, the elevator symbolized the devil...

Prince’s Musical Family Tree, Visualized
Prince has a lot more than just albums to his name. He has an entire generation of musicians

The influence of Prince’s music cannot be overstated, but the late legend’s impact goes way, way, way, way beyond his own albums. Whether he was acting as mentor to Minnesota’s up and coming R&B talents in the ‘80s, writing songs for some of the best performers in the business, or acting as label boss, the music world wouldn’t have been the same had Prince not picked up a guitar.

Morris Day and The Time. Not only did he shape the outfit into a commercial success, but he also gave Time band members Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis a platform on which they’d build their reputation as one of the best pop production outfits to ever exist. But other Prince associates, such as Vanity, Alexander O’Neal, and Jesse Johnson would go on to find later success.

Functioning as the head of Paisley Park Records, Prince not only delivered albums from the likes of Mavis Staples, George Clinton, and, um, Carmen Electra, he also wrote and produced a significant amount of the material the label released from Sheila E, Madhouse, and The Time.

But Prince had the ability to work magic even when his involvement wasn’t immediately apparent. As a songwriter and producer, he cranked out songs for the likes of Madonna, Rick James, Patti LaBelle, The Bangles, and even Kenny Rogers. Not only capable of producing classics such as Sheila E’s “The Glamorous Life,” he proved just as versatile when he handed “Nothing Compares 2 U” over to Sinead O’Connor and it became a runaway hit.

And what is a family without a little drama? Although they never collaborated on record, the rivalry between Prince and Michael Jackson was so intense, it’s foolish to argue the two musical giants didn’t have an influence on each other. Need further proof? Just check this video.

Enough Said.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

A Fond Farewell! Prince’s Family Planning Public Memorial
His brother-in-law reveals details of the tribute.

As Prince‘s family deals with the heartbreak of losing the man they knew as Prince Rogers Nelson, RadarOnline.com has learned they’re also busy planning a massive memorial tribute for fans of the music icon called simply Prince.

Maurice Phillips, the husband of Prince’s sister Tyka Nelson, told Radar that a massive public musical memorial is “in the works.”

Meanwhile, Prince’s body has been transferred to a local funeral home for cremation, and the family is still coming to terms with what has happened.

“We’re just waiting for the toxicology tests to come in,” Phillips told Radar. An autopsy was completed this afternoon, but full toxicology results are not expected for several weeks.

Prince’s sister Tyka visited with fans at his Paisley Park home on Friday, telling onlookers that her brother cherished his legions of supporters.

But behind the scenes, Phillips said, “She’s holding up as best as she can … it’s really hard for her. Death isn’t easy for anybody.

And Phillips said he has his own personal plans to honor the memory of the “Purple Rain” singer, who was found dead April 21 at 57 in Paisley Park.

“He trusted me with his sister, so I’m not going to let him down,” Phillips said. “He was a good brother-in-law.”

A lot of folks are starting to weigh in on the subject of perhaps Prince being sick for a while and perhaps he knew he didn't have long subject. Got this from another site:

Welcome to the Freedom Galaxy

Along with his final eternal phase avatar and his final official photo, which were both big clues that he knew he was in his last days. The last avatar is that of a dead person with the eyes closed, third eye open, purplish color around the eyes, thin face, etc. The final setlists last song was "Welcome to the Freedom Galaxy." This was also a clue. I have closure. His career came full circle. He was not going to die in a hospital bed for weeks. He lived his final days exactlty as he wanted to. I can finally now celebrate him.

This is what I had written in my blog, about the 2nd Atlanta show on the 16th:

.

The appearance of Prince began similarly to the first show, so I knew what to expect when the artwork of Prince with the 3rd eye wide open appeared. It was still as breath-taking as the first time, seeing this fade away to all the incarnations of Prince over the years. I had a thought last night, that Prince has come full circle. When he began his career, he had an afro, just as he does now. It is all a cycle, and it seems that Prince is feeling this cycle. The honoring of his father, John L. Nelson, the writing of his memoirs, life cycles. Prince had worn his moon shirt, the waxing and waning of the moon. These incarnations of Prince through the years, reminded me of cycles, the changes we all go through as we mature, but we always come back home.

Wow...I just had to spend yesterday soaking it all up.... The sudden death of Prince is as unbelievable to me as it is to most others. I recall that it was a high school girlfriend named, Cynthia, who first introduced me to his music. Like most teen-aged boys in the hood trying to earn and maintain street cred, I thought being hyper-masculine was the measure of manhood. That meant avoiding all things that appeared remotely soft, except for girls--and Prince was very much viewed as soft. Yes, talented, but not a dude a young cat was idolizing or promoting. But, as is often the case, it takes a woman or a girl to coax a man to try or give further consideration to something or someone that seems a bit outside of the "man-code", like Prince.

Cynthia had tickets to see Prince at the, then, Civic Center in Baltimore. She begged me for weeks to go with her but I was like, "Prince? You're asking a man to go to a Prince concert? What I look like going to see that faggy (a pejorative for gays back in the day)?", and then we'd laugh. But Cynthia would say Prince wasn't a "faggy" and, even if he was, she'd be with me so I wouldn't look suspect. To make a long story short, Cynthia "persuaded" me to go in the most satisfying manner.

We went to the show and I was shocked to see the Civic Center packed with, like, 70% females mostly dressed partly in lingerie--some completely. Cynthia was watching me like a hawk but I have excellent peripheral vision. LOL. Anyway, the group "The Time" opened first and KILLED IT! Morris Day was my dude, anyway, and had all the young cats saying, "Yeees!" every chance we could. So, the Time finished and it was Princes's turn.

This nigga Prince comes out in thigh-high boots, a speedo, no shirt, and a long-tailed tuxedo coat. I was like, WTF? The dude started playing the bassline to "Sexy Dancer" and it was on. He jammed it for what seemed like 10 minutes and turned his back to the stage and said, "Ladies, y'all here to night? Are you here with your man? Is your man fine?" Then lifting his coat to expose his partially exposed buttocks said, "But does he have an ass like mine." The girls roared! I LOL because it was hilarious and some cool shit to say. Needless to say, Prince rocked that muthafucka all night and I had inadvertently seen the greatest live performance in my life, by one of the greatest artists of all time.

I've been a Prince fan ever since and he helped me learn game and pull a lot a fine chicks just by learning to be edgy with women. Hell, "Sexy Dancer" became my lifetime hype song whenever I was going out. In fact, the heavy breathing in that song taught me how to change up my fuck stroke. I would literally be fucking a chick and be like, huh-huh-huh-huh huuuh-huh-huuuh huh! LOL.

What a great artists and, as I am learning from many--especially Van Jones, even a greater Brother and real fighter for Black Economic Empowerment. Van Jones, even said, Prince supported Black Lives Matter but wanted it to become an economic force. I could fuck with them, myself, if that happened and was it truly about Black economics and not a front. Van Jones also said Prince was a big follower of John Henrik Clarke--mad respect for that. And, I wish, I could find the clip of Van Jones telling Don Lemon how Prince hired this Sister, who came from the labor movement, to finally kick Warner Brothers asses and get Prince his catalog back. Does anybody recall that Sister's name? It was a great story.

I gotta go, but man....Prince. SMH.... What a loss, but what a life! R.I.P. Brother...much respect.

The Latest: Minnesota Senator Wants State Color to Be Purple

http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment...-fans-flock-sites-prince-made-famous-38622162

The latest on the death of music superstar Prince (all times local):

3:20 p.m.

A state senator in Minnesota is pushing to make the official state color purple in honor of music superstar Prince.

Sen. Karin Housley tells the St. Paul Pioneer Press that she plans to introduce a bill Monday hoping to make the color Minnesota's.

Housley says she's a huge Prince fan and that seeing the world lit up in purple makes her proud. She says Prince was special and "he was ours."

Housley never met the musician but says she and former NHL hockey player Phil Housley, her fiance at the time, once waited for three hours outside of the Minneapolis club First Avenue. They wanted to catch a glimpse of Prince after a show.

She says Prince gave the couple a nod and that she was "in heaven" for the rest of her life.

———

1:45 p.m.

For the third straight day, Prince fans in Minnesota are flocking to sites made famous by the music superstar and hometown hero.

Hundreds have been mourning outside of Prince's Paisley Park estate in suburban Minneapolis, leaving purple flowers and balloons along the fence. The 57-year-old musician was found dead Thursday at the compound.

Fans are also leaving flowers and balloons beneath Prince's star at the Minneapolis club First Avenue, where he filmed "Purple Rain" and performed many times. First Avenue will host its third all-night dance party beginning Saturday night to honor the singer.

The Minnesota Historical Society has put Prince's outfit from "Purple Rain" on display in the lobby of the Minnesota History Center in St. Paul.

———

12:45 a.m.

Prince talked dirty in song but had a reputation for clean living. He also had an ability to put on shows that were electrifying in their athleticism.

But after his death at age 57 questions are swirling over whether the music superstar had been hiding serious health problems from his fans.

Prince's death followed a series of canceled shows and a reported emergency plane landing for medical treatment.

An autopsy was conducted Friday. Authorities said it could be weeks before the cause of death is released.

But Carver County Sheriff Jim Olson said Prince's body had no signs of violence when he was found unresponsive Thursday morning in an elevator at Paisley Park, his estate in suburban Minneapolis. Olson also said there was nothing to suggest it was suicide.
