Chappelle was on the DC circuit as a teen with his mom sitting in the back to take him home because he was too young to drive. He hit the NY circuit as a teen... did cac comedy festivals and was offered sitcom pilot after sitcom pilot and signed major studio deals shortly after that.. Def jam and headlining his own specials by mid 20s... Prodigy may sound corny to you but its an apt fucking description.

I actually was gonna say that. Tucker probably left because he knew he couldn't have a long career doing the same comedy routine/character. Money, talks, fifth element, Friday, def comedy jam, etc was the same character.
But he was a successful stand-up... I remember his Def Comedy Jam days, honestly don't remember the routines or quality decades later.
I agree he was a one trick pony as far as playing the same character in all his movies but I'm not sure I'd reduce him to that overall. (Not saying you're wrong but expressing skepticism.)

High pitch voice inflections and eye bugging facial expressions. Its literally what made him famous when he first hit the national stage on Def Jam. In retrospect his stand up is otherwise terrible. Movies were enjoyable tho.
