Show is awesom! But best believe some fools out there will say this is unholy, and false. Mostly Fox news believers and close minded racists.

Which is exactly why they wanted to broadcast this type of show on the FOX network. No sense in trying to reach out to folks that are already or willing to be scientifically literate it's some of those other folks you wanna talk too.:yes:

I watched it instead of watching Walking Dead (I'll catch the 11:00 p.m. showing of Walking Dead). Anyway, it was just o.k. I felt that its target audience was young adults. It was kind of juvenile and I didn't really learn anything new from watching it. Also, I felt that the animation about that guy who the Catholic church killed was unnecessary.

I'll probably give it one more chance next Sunday. If it doesn't explain more, new, concepts about the Cosmos I'll quit watching it.

Good show I enjoyed it.

Keep in mind people, this show is pretty much gonna recap on what most of us science heads already know. So don't expect it to instantly cover new ground.

Because, some of those folks from the early promo likely had in there mind that this was more of a ploy to "covert them" as opposed to really talking about the Universe and our scientific place in it. Thus, going with that logical and assuming they dared to even give it a try by tuning in at the appropriate date and time. All bets were likely off, when low and behold Obama is greeting them and asking them to open their minds to whats up next.

In a more civilized society sure that would have been cool. But, in ours it likely created the opposite effect. Hell, I would argue they would have gotten a lot more positive traction if the intro was done by a "strong/known" republican head. Of-course, for that person it likely would have meant political suicide.

These were some of the thoughts I had when i first saw the premier earlier this week at the planetarium. But, keep in mind that this was:

1) An Introduction to the series! So, most of the newer material will come along as the episodes continue.

2) The series isn't meant to be a advance class, So they will do there best to keep it as informative and simple as possible.

I would imagine part of their goal is to give you just enough that it inspires you to want to learn more and accordingly take the necessary steps towards Fanning the Fire.

damn shame the leader of the free world can't open up a show about science without kowtowing to backwards racists being an issue. i get what you're saying, i just say to hell with those types.

something tells me people who have ideological oppositions to the pres weren't checking for "the new cosmos hosted by another black dude who's a skillion times smarter than me."

fuck em.

but point taken.

For all those asking why Obama at the opening?
Its Easy...

Prez will be working on his Legacy soon.

Kennedy will always be remembered for challenging us to go to the Moon.

Obama will Challenge us to go back to the Moon as a stepping stone towards Mars.

This program is a good way to get the politics and minds of the American People to get behind the new project. It has already begun to be assembled and tested.

Look up NASA's Orion and the SLS (Space Launch System) This is their replacement space craft to the Space Shuttle looking like a combo of the Saturn V with Shuttle style Solid Boosters designed to go long distances.

First Launch of the vehicle will be this fall from Kennedy Space Center, FL.

Took me right back to my childhood. When curiosity ruled over the experience of life's cynicism takes over.

Shit was dope. Thumbs up.

Curious to see where they go with it.

Amazing stuff. One of the coolest theories I've hear is that Dark-Matter and Energy are in reality other "universes" brushing up against ours the byproducts of the Multiverse...

^^ This ... Like sheets blowing in the wind while drying on the clothes line. Each Multiverse is on a sheet and as they billow and undulate they get closer and/or move away from each other. But at the same time there are countless universes on a single sheet as well.

I hope I don't get in trouble for saying so.

Its a shame that we have people who act like the church,today...I don't understand how people can be so anti-Science,but believe god created the stars and etc..

Hell, you have people who don't believe the Sun is a star....:smh:

You didn't get what it was for. It's not a dis on religion, it was pointing out what scientists do, proving or disproving in idea, even if everyone else thinks it's crazy. Anyone can come up with a theory that will change everything and you shouldn't let anyone take that ability away from you.

They are starting with the basic, but still very interesting facts...hopefully this will open some minds.

If we don't destroy this planet in the next few thousand years, I think technology will have evolved so much, that life is now like a sci fi movie.

All due respect, but to see a man who takes the screen name honouring Albert Camus (pronounced Cam - oo) cannot see what Cosmos is and can't allow his imagination to be taken in by the visuals alone, is baffling to me.

And the part about Giordano is probably the best part of the first show: They're getting at the core of the scientific method. Okay, maybe they did the animation because it's cheaper (or maybe not) and that made it cheesey, but that was important stuff.

yep.. Sagan was a major influence

jp2.py

You can search the loc.gov for all the letters they exchanged

To me, that was the most shocking part of the first show - I was stunned. I watched that three or four times to make sure I was seeing and hearing correctly. Carl Sagan kept his diary/work schedule, they're in his papers, someone went back and found the entry when he was to see some kid from The Bronx. Incredible. Now I see this. Incredible.
