Kevin Feige Confirms What We've Been Suspecting About Contessa Valentina Allegra De Fontaine
Marvel Studios/Disney
BY PAULI POISUO/JULY 16, 2021 2:59 PM EDT
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is full of smart folks, but until recently, Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) essentially held the monopoly for smart people who also seem to possess far more information than everyone else. "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier" changed all that — and we're not talking about the return of the oddly well-informed Zemo (Daniel Brühl). From the second Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) waltzes in to recruit John Walker (Wyatt Russell) for mysterious purposes, it's clear that her hard-to-walk stilettos are filled by a character with far more knowledge than anyone else around her. It doesn't exactly hurt that the comics version of the Contessa has deep connections to Fury, either.

The Contessa returns in the stinger of "Black Widow," pulling a similar stunt with Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), and the pair's general vibe is that they're already familiar with each other. Combined with Val's general air of Fury-level coolness and self-assurance, these scenes sure make it seem like she's up to something.

Now, Marvel Studios bigshot Kevin Feige himself has stepped in to discuss the good (?) Contessa ... and it turns out he's happy to confirm what we've been suspecting about Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine.

Kevin Feige says that the Contessa is building toward something, all right
Marvel Studios/Disney+
While Kevin Feige doesn't outright say that Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine is Phase 4's answer to Nick Fury — or perhaps his evil counterpart — he freely admits that big things are on the horizon. In an interview with D21 Inside Disney podcast (via Screen Rant), he shared some interesting information about the franchise's plans for the Contessa.

"She's doing something. Yes she is," Feige shared. "She seems to be in recruitment mode. Does Yelena already work for her? They seem to have a connection at that point. Yes."

This is something that many may have suspected, considering that you generally don't bring in a star of Julia Louis-Dreyfus' caliber without having bigger plans for her. Feige also confirmed that the MCU very much knows what they have — and that Louis-Dreyfus likes what they're planning.

"And the future is bright for the MCU because Julia is in it," he said. "We are gigantic fans of her at Marvel. [...] So the notion of bringing her into the world was always something, if we could find the right thing, was something we wanted to do. And when this role came about and the opportunity to have her in [Black] Widow, and [The] Falcon [and the Winter Soldier], and maybe in some other things coming up, she was totally on board and really into it. So it's an amazing addition to the world, and I look forward to people being surprised by just where she'll show up next."

Encouraging words, indeed. With the introduction of the Multiverse, the MCU is already plenty exciting — and now that Feige and the gang have the seemingly free-roaming Louis-Dreyfus at their disposal, there's no telling what's going to happen.

As "Plain" as Garner looks,
Even moreso now,
It's a shame She's never been regarded for Her Action potential.
Not all her film choices have been great.
But you can tell she still takes care of herself physically.

I always thought so too because she was so great on that series one of my favorites of all time.

But Elektra and peppermint? did not work.

But I think if JJ was behind a spy movie or series even adding her to Mission Impossible she would rock.

I never got to finish Alias....I missed the last three seasons of it.

It did not finish strong...

But was a classic exceptional series for most of its run worth finishing

 Alias was the truth.

Love the whole back story...

Jj Abrams a Spielberg worshipper

Creates Felicity wants to do a flip on that story where she is spy and he has to go to another network to develop it.

It's an instant hit. The main cast ends up getting major roles including Bradley Cooper and the writers room is insane

much like Buffy? that show redefined modern TV and movie storytelling with its writing.

Something Weird Is Up With The Falcon and the Winter Soldier on Disney+
By Savannah Salazar

So, is he asleep now or…? Photo: Marvel

Remember The Falcon and the Winter Soldier? Marvel’s second Disney+ streaming series is finally back in the public consciousness because keen-eyed fans on Reddit noticed that at least two scenes in the series have been altered to reduce the blood and violence onscreen. While Disney hasn’t said what prompted the changes, fans spotted it weeks after the arrival both of the (formerly on Netflix) MCU shows on Disney+ and of the streaming service’s new parental controls, making the tweaking of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier — a show that premiered on the platform just last year — all the more baffling. A source at Disney+ told us the incident was isolated and chalked this up to the wrong version of an episode being uploaded, but as of Wednesday afternoon, the edited version was still up on the site.

So what got chopped?

Two scenes with dramatic edits were spotted by Reddit and The Direct in episode three, “Power Broker.” (Surprisingly, the most brutal scene of the series, in which U.S. Agent murders a guy by repeatedly bashing the Captain America shield onto his head, has not been affected yet.)

The episode is fairly action heavy, as Falcon (Anthony Mackie), Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), Zemo (Daniel Brühl), and Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp) hunt down the titular Power Broker to bust an illegal Super Solider serum operation. The foursome end up finding a Hydra scientist, whom Zemo shoots in the chest at the episode’s 35:27 mark. In the original scene, you can see the scientist sprawled out on the floor with blood spattered across his chest and face, while now he looks like he’s just snoozing.

The second edit of the episode comes soon after, when Falcon, Bucky, Zemo, and Sharon make their escape. Despite Sharon’s literally stabbing a dude in the arm minutes before (which is still on Disney+), the edit comes where Bucky, originally, throws a pipe straight through an antagonist’s shoulder to pin her to the wall at the 37:46 mark. The scene now shows the pipe barely missing the antagonist, who dramatically pushes herself back. (The moment honestly looks pretty funny now, so props for this one.)

Thus far, those are the only changes to The Falcon and the Winter Soldier that have been found, but they also feel somewhat … superfluous? There’s seemingly no rhyme or reason to why Disney+ would censor these few scenes in a Marvel show that could easily be put behind its parental controls, especially when there’s now bed-breaking, bone-crushing, ass-kicking, Marvel action series on the service. And one can’t forget the newly premiered Moon Knight, the MCU’s attempt at grittier, edgier fare. In a recent interview with Empire, Marvel president Kevin Feige even said, “It’s been fun to work with Disney+ and see the boundaries shifting on what we’re able to do. There are moments [in the series] when Moon Knight is wailing on another character, and it is loud and brutal, and the knee-jerk reaction is, ‘We’re gonna pull back on this, right?’ No. We’re not pulling back.” If you say so, Kevin!

I want to know the REAL story behind why this happened its just so odd and seemingly unnecessary.

Or it'd a peak into a plan for Disney to air these series on basic cable or other platforms in edited form sooner than we think?

Cause apparently they have have family friendly edits of EVERYTHING

Feige Future vision

Sidebar....

Who in the hell is re watching these old shows looking for stuff like this anyway?

Now THAT is much more f**ked up.

It might have something to with them dealing with multi-verse and Kang timeline plot.

Last year they re-edited the after credit scene of WandaVision.

They probably getting ready to do something with Loki and Hawkeye here soon.
