Oh boy.
This rarely turns out well. For one thing, people don't respond well to complete, 180° changes in musical direction.
For another, Rap is a genre of Pop music, whether folks want to acknowledge it or not. And Pop music and Pop music artists don't age well. Hence the term Pop, as in popular. What happens is the majority of listeners who connect with you are fairly close in age to you so you're singing/rapping their experiences and feelings. As both you and your audience age you gain more wisdom (hopefully) and perspective and your outlook changes.
There are very, very few Pop musicians who have longevity. I'm not talking about the ones who keep doing shows of their old material, I'm talking about ones who consistently come up with new material in the Pop vein as they age.
Well, good luck to him. I'll probably give it a listen but I don't expect much.
