I was not surprised by the identities of hooded justice and dr Manhattan.

In fact it would have been dope and actually more accurate to our current culture if the minuteman movie MADE hooded justice white gay
when he was actually a straight black father...
Hooded Justice is gay in the comic, he was seeing the white guy. He knew he was gay because when he gave him the card, they touched for a second. Watch the scene again and focus on the look the wife gives. Yes, I think she knew after that. The scene was uncalled for but you know the gays will complain if they don't get recognized in a show. Its like these producers are scared of facing some Twitter backlash from them. Shit, look at Batwoman... They covered all the basis: black and white gay women, interracial couple, Asian cast members, 2 black people quota....

but they changed so much for this adaptation I thought they would flip that too.

Why did you think they would change it?
To be fair, we can't cry foul when a straight character is written gay for "no reason" and expect a gay character to be written straight.
I'm happy to have a well written and produced show with strong black leads.
Cause they changed so much for this version. Obviously and for the better.
They were NOT beholden to canon.
Again its not even that he was gay cause like you said the sadistic and homosexual stuff was there...
But it felt kinda forced.
Making him NOT gay would not have negatively effected the emotional depth that resonated in the character.
But i understand why they decided to do it this way, it just didnt ring right to me.
Cause every thing else was so damn spot on perfect.

it was implied...but hooded justice could have been 3 different people in the book.
2 of the 3 werent gay.
They got this after watchmen type continuation comic series that kinda confirms it.
