Yes, I want to listen to music and a diss song is not battle rap. Music even rap is more than lyrics.
People complained about Nas for years due to poor beat selection to the point of him trying to claim it was done purposely. Regardless of how you may feel, presentation matters as much as lyrics. Rap isn't poetry; it's music. The best product will balance both of those elements. If people really cared about lyrics as much as they claimed, Joe never creates the JBP. At large, people just started to fuck with Jcole and what was the main complaint prior to him being considered top 3 of his class? It wasn't thst Cole wasn't a lyricist.
What drives the lyrics for most rappers? They claim to sit back listen to the beat and then add their content after being inspired.on average, im not hearing to many artists say they wrote their lyrics and then found a beat. I'm not saying the lyrics aren't important. The beat sets the tone for the lyrics. I'm saying beats and maybe a strong hook adds value to the lyrics.
If I want to listen to battle rappers, I'd listen to battle rappers. Joe or Cam are not going to be battle rappers. In fact, from what we've seen of Joe in that format I'm taking Cam easily and I've never seen Cam do it. Not that I think Cam would be much better. The skill sets are different.
