As dumb as the rule may be, it's still the rule. Just about every sport has weed on its banned substance list so it's not like she got caught with a drug that was an ingredient, we can barely pronounce, buried deep in some syringe cocktail. She knew weed was a no no so she gotta take responsibility for that and eat that L. We gotta stop jumping right to blaming racism when she's the one guilty of breaking the rule.

Ppl get banned for shit that make them lethargic. I don't think the reason is solely about banning something that makes an athlete faster. Also WADA rational is that they banned some of these drugs in case ppl try to use it to mask other drugs.

Ah, you've hit the nail on the head... often other drugs are used as masking agent to hide performance enhancing drugs... she will now have to prove that the THC in her system isn't there to mask something else... I guess that will be done with the B sample and other tests and questioning.... if she is successful in proving that then it will just be a 1 month suspension....

.... I hope she's successful because even though I'm reaping for the Jamaican athletes to win at the Olympics I still want to see the best competition lined up in races.

And even then it's not like she didn't know weed was on the banned list. Malicious intent or not she gotta take this L and learn a hard lesson.

And they are pretty giddy about it for some strange reason.. The amount of hate our African and Caribbean brethren give us is unfortunate.

I truly wonder where some of you get your opinions from. A random Twitter person? Your neighbor? Delroy from work?

Has any government or an organized body of people come out against African Americans? You guys stay living in the mindfuck. THAT is unfortunate.

The amount of hate Caribbean and African people receive on THIS board is not indicative of general society. I have lived long enough to know better than to make the opinions of some the voice of all.

It's not unfortunate, it should be expected. Pan Africanism is a LIE. There is no "diaspora", just victims of WS worldwide. And most melenated people on Earth are colonized to protect the system of WS. We kick up the most dust from within and are it's biggest threat so it shouldn't seem bizarre to see different nationalities of melenated people from impoverished nations Voltron up against us (and not their oppressors), that's what they were literally colonized to do!!! Black America first is my motto.

To be honest bruh, nearly all the Jamaica sites I've been on since the news broke are in sympathy with Richardson.... yes, some are gloating over it but majority are hoping that she wins her appeal and get to compete in the Olympics.

.... we may not be reaping for her to win but we definitely want to see the best athletes line up to race in the Olympics....

.... so when we beat the best athletes on the track then there can be no excuses.

Exactly. Track & Field is huge in Jamaica and they appreciate the competition and rivalry with the US.

Some of y'all acting like the rule was just created this week right before she got tested. Fact of the matter is weed was already on the banned list and she knew it was on the banned list. Regardless of whether she was taking it to help cope, or cuz she's a weedhead, or cuz she was trying to use it to possibly mask taking a different drug, she still took it knowing the rule.

Listen here you little bitch.. I have better shit to do than concoct stories about people who literally dont exist and serve no added value as it pertains to my day to day life. You ignoring the very prevalent disdain held for us by those groups is head up your ass bullshit. You muthafuckas only response when we mention this shit is the gaslight us and accuse of creating this narrative as if we dont have better shit to do than consider you clowns.

And if you want state sponsored or governmental examples of the depraved hatred coming from those from impoverished shit holes we extend a hand to.....

This is a nobel prize winning prime minister spewing uninformed hate based trash void of historical context and data.

Now apologize or stfu.

It must be hard living your life to not care while simultaneously caring so much. The shallow pool that is your mind proves my point

Those who gloat over this don't love the sport because these things only tarnish the sport and ppl will still hang that dark cloud over track & field athletes. We know the sprints is really about 2 or 3 athletes, everybody else is just a filler. This is rather disappointing because a 5 yr wait only to see one of the favorite disqualified.

So it's legal for a transgender male to compete against naturally born females, but illegal to smoke weed to cope from the trauma of losing one's mother?

Backward ass rules, bruh.
Yes, she's wrong but their archaic rules are WRONG-ER.

She needs an entire new PR team, media prep person, stylist, mentor, management etc...

Young sister just flushed millions down the toilet that she will NEVER recoup. I really hope she gets it together.. shes young and just needs guidance and a better support system.
I hope she gets it together , too. It's easy to judge (and I'm not saying I don't get judgey; I have my moments), but she was going through a lot and under a lot of pressure. And mistakes happen, especially when you're young.

Honestly, she probably shouldn't have done that interview. For one, it seems clear that she was trying really hard not to directly admit that she took something (which would be a smart move). But minus that detail, there isn't really much else to say, and she just kinda wandered through the whole thing. An actual PR team/rep could have coached her have a specific line of explanation and to stick to it. Heck, even the interviewer was trying to get her on track with that (mind you, for the story's benefit, but still).

How she comes out of this will depend on whether or not people feel empathy for her. We already see folks that were ready (and waiting) to write her off, so she has to be careful how she presents herself.

You won't. The old man is clearly off his meds and seeks the narrative that supports his own biases, opinions and ignorance.
Ironically I remember seeing some of that same giddiness aimed at Jamaicans when Nesta Carter tested positive and were hoping Usain Bolt or Yohan Blake would also test positive by people on this board and other comment sections.

Archaic but not like it's not an established and known rule. Just like when you go for a new job and they do drug testing. You know in advance what their rules are and how they go about enforcing them. Can't cry foul cuz you get caught using 1 of the drugs that's on their prohibited list and be like "aww c'mon it was just weed"

Then your fucking eyes are closed. Peruse any comments section, blog, message board, or twitter.

He never sees it. His schtick has grown old and tired.

Sad situation.

However, she took responsibility. That's the win. Fuck it.

Also, Why y'all calling the girl out her name??

Some cats on this board dont like "hood rats" so they venting those feelings onto her. Until she starts cooning or pushing some BS agenda, I have no issue with this little girl, she still super young.

Yep. She, has to hold this L and deal with the fall out. It should be a learning lesson for all young black up and coming athletes.

Some folks out the hood you just don’t let them “be themselves” without some type of guidance. As black folks we have learned to code switch. This young lady was clearly never taught the game.

The only one I have read is BGOL and the Jamaicans on here are not saying anything different than the Black Americans with the exception of the Black Americans saying she looks like a man

That's a shame if true....weed thing sounds silly but then I remembered Jamaica's Asafa Powell...super fast sprinter who would kick everyone's ass at meets but would always falter at championship events...it became a sad running joke as Asafa's nerves were guaranteed to ensure he wasn't winning any gold medal...if that's why weed is banned, then I understand and hope Xanax is banned too....if weed is banned for some stupid legal reason, then that's fucked up

See this here sums up how most Jamaicans feel.... we wanted her to be there to get her beating....

I agree.
It's unfortunate this action has resulted in her possibly losing money, fame, and legacy.
She's taking accountability for her violation, but this rule need to be reduced from a ban-able offense to a reduction of points or clock time. Perhaps a 2-3 strikes policy might work best in this situation as well.

Side note: I hope all the transgender athletes competing win big followed by all women opposing and protesting the IOC.
