They weren't trying to gut NJ?

Favors, Harris, another player and THREE draft picks?

The Nets were going to be gutted WORSE because as it is, Favors is a 3rd overall pick, they're going to have the 6th draft pick this season, and a lottery pick next season that is going to be higher than it would be with Melo, but a lottery pick regardless.

Chandler, Felton, Gallo.

Carmelo, Billups.

These are the principles

As the knicks are currently, they're a first round flameout. They have a top flight offensive option in Amare, and there's a big drop off offensively. The Knicks suck defensively with or without Anthony so let's focus on what he brings.

He gives the knicks that second big offensive punch. He plays well every night, and at worst he'll have an off night every 8-10 games. What the Knicks have now is Amare and whoever else decides to step up.

In the playoffs you can't win reliably in that manner.

the nets suck tho... harris is a fa and favors is up and down the picks r fine b.c the nets had the picks to give the 3rd player was a bench player and favors is a bench player... the nets would give up 1 starter 2 bench and 3 unknown players.

the nuggets want the knicks to give up 3 starters, 2 bench players and 2 picks for melo and a 35 yr old pg who doesnt want to be here

again seems like only Clit T and Agent gets it.

When gut your team when you don't have to???

that is the whole point. Denver either takes what the Knicks offer or they get him in the off season.

I mean are some of you nervous and actually think he is going to stay a nugget?? that isn't happening :lol:

You think he is going to say fuck it I want to be a Net.

Naw Proky is all pissed and pride now.

He wants nothing to do with Melo

The only option is the Knicks.

.

P
Melo has till June 30th to sign that extension. Teams can't deal with a player after the trade deadline and before July 1st. So if it came down to it and it was looking like pay will be cut - he will NOT take that chance.

Now, if all they do is reduce the number of years for a max contract from 6 to 5, and 5 to 4 then he'll wait because he won't really be losing money.

But, what we know is this. Chandler and Gallo were going regardless. Felton is a surprise, and Fields as well.

But this trade gives the Knicks an opportunity to make a future deal as Billups has a contract ending in 2012.

So the Knicks, what it looks like they'll have is

Mozgov/Turiaf
Amare
Melo
Fields/Shawne Williams
Billups

Then Toney Douglas, Mason, Randolph, Rautins, Walker on the bench. Walsh may also reach out to Earl Barron who was waived by Phoenix and bolster the front line. Azubuike is coming back too.

You have to look at the Knicks and see what else is going on in the east. This Knicks team is no better than 5th seed at their absolute best.

Miami has Bosh, Lebron, Wade
Boston Pierce, KG, Allen, Rondo
Chicago with Rose, Boozer, Noah

Then Atlanta and Orlando.

New York is not going to be getting much of anything done with Amare, Chandler, Gallo and Felton. Felton shouldn't be relied upon to be a scorer, Chandler and Gallo are third options at best. Fields is a great rookie, and if NY can keep him out of a trade it's good.

Regardless of what anyone thinks, Denver still has a lot of power with the upcoming CBA on the horizon. If the CBA was next year, NY would hold ALL the power.

As it is it's more split. Melo can scare teams off, but Denver can stall Melo and call his bluff. So NY doesn't have as much power as they would normally have.

If they don't make a real attempt, Carmelo could just as easily think that he may just stay. I doubt he turns down that money. He just has time.

the summer of lebron and the winter of melo will be another failure for the knicks

pay attention, melo has no idea what he really wants to do

the knicks will lose again.....yall stay losing :smh:

that makes no sense

First the CBA isn't going to allow the Bulls to sign Melo.

they have no cap space.

:lol::lol:

So Chicago isn't even a player

Also you are talking about a owner who has never went over the salary cap.

NEVER!!!!!!!!!

So even if he could he wouldn't.

If he didn't go over the cap with Jordan Pippen and others why would he now.

Also another key factor is this. Rose is due for a contract extension this summer. So again the CBA doesn't allow the Bulls to sign Melo.

Only the Nets and Knicks will have major cash off the books.

the Knicks got this.

huh?

melo, amare, and billups all create their own shots

they dont need someone to make them better

you double amare or melo and billups will hit the three

(his nickname is big shot for a reason)

plus you have offensive superstars so defenses cant cheat on amare like they do now

yall killing me acting like these role players are the answer

you need multiple superstars to win in this league

the knicks will fail again

I agree on all counts. A player of Carmelo's caliber doesn't just fall into your lap every day. You draft them, and even then teams go years of drafting crap players before they find a gem.

He's not the playmaker his contemporaries are - guys like Wade and Lebron, but neither is Kevin Durant, but you don't hear people harp about how Durant is not all around like Wade and Lebron. But dude is a lethal scorer. His defense can be better, but give me a great team defense over a great individual defender.

Replacing guys like Chandler, Felton, Gallo and Fields is MUCH easier than replacing a guy like Carmelo. Don't believe me? Speak to Cleveland fans. Ask them about the Hickson for Amare trade. Cleveland was iffy about Amare because they didn't want to let go of Hickson. Kerr says they weren't going to trade Amare, but I think that was just to keep his value higher.

Back to the Knicks, you're right about that second post. All three players create their own offense, and Billups can run the pick and roll with Amare. Felton is not a PG on the level of the top points in the NBA. He's not as creative with the ball, nor does he have the vision.

Also by making this trade, the Knicks will have yet another coveted expiring contract they can move. Dwight available? Trade. Deron, or Paul? It's there. The option, the opportunity is there.

It's not just about the money.

What I'm saying is, he has time. He has to the trade deadline to play his hand, and after that the advantage goes to Denver.

He can then either sign the extension by June 30th, or risk free agency.

So it's not that it's all about money, but that after the deadline his options are very slim.

I don't think there's anyone else in play. Not unless they want to take melo without an extension.

If he's not traded by the deadline he has two options and only two options.

Sign to a team under the new CBA which is looking to reduce max years and max pay, or sign the extension with Denver by June 30th.

He can literally take it all the way to June 30th.

If he's not signed by July 1st, there's only one place he's going - NY.

Denver is doing what they have to do - make absurd offers.

The Knicks made absurd offers to.

Now it's about both teams working towards the middle.

Knicks say, take Chandler, Curry a first and fuck off. Denver says Chandler/Fields, Gallo, Felton and a first.

The first will stay, now NY has to try to adjust this trade. They'll take Fields off the table and offer Rautins instead. Get the pick, and give 3 million also.

Can we just go ahead and skip the bullshit. This dude is going to the Knicks.

Lets go ahead and get it over with.

Let's just hope Denver is smarter than Cleveland and Toronto and at least trade dude.

http://www.sbnation.com/2010/8/3/1603761/carmelo-anthony-not-sign-extension-nuggets-2011-free-agent

Prepare for the Summer of Carmelo. Indeed, what LeBron was to 2010, Carmelo figures to be to 2011. At least, if a report from HoopsWorld's Alex Kennedy is to be believed. According to Kennedy, sources close to Anthony have indicated that the Nuggets star will eschew signing an extension with Denver in order to become a free agent next summer.

Given that Anthony has had a max offer on the table from the Nuggets for the past several weeks, it would hardly be surprising that he would not re-sign with Denver now; if he was going to, he likely already would have. Still, Anthony has at least the rest of the season to mull over the Nuggets' offer. The bigger issue is that there will likely be a new collective bargaining agreement (CBA) next summer (and possibly a lockout), that would presumably limit the size of contracts. By waiting to sign, Anthony could be forgoing a sizable chunk of change. Again according to Kennedy, Anthony isn't too worried about these risks, and prefers the freedom of free agency to the certainty of an extension.

If Anthony does reach free agency, he will be the undisputed prize among a class that will lack the depth of this past year's loaded crew. The Knicks, in particular, have made no secret of how much they covet the former Syracuse star. A final sign of which way Anthony may be leaning are reports that he has put his Denver home up for sale....

My opinion changed when Melo start saying he wants the extension and whereever he goes he is signing the extension that's when I said I knew Nets desperate would do anything to get him.

But I was wrong. I didn't think they would back out

Here is a professional explanation of why the knicks hold all the cards and why the nuggets asking for so much is just another sign of their overall weakness.

Link

To summarize from the very first trade proposal the Nuggets knew they we're powerless in this deal and they were playing NBA ESPN trade proposal with GM's around the league because Carmelo is a FA. Teams don't have to deal with them if they ask for too much. The only reason anyone is giving the Nuggets demands any play is because the CBA changes makes this off season unpredictable.

What I was showing in my post is how Melo is using this and that to get what he wants.

Watch if Melo isn't traded soon what will happen.

You will all of sudden hear about the bulls Nets and Lakers again.

Lakers are willing to take Melo because of their struggles.

The Bulls are working with a third team to get Melo.

The Nuggets and Nets have resume talks about Melo

is any of this true???

No all this of this will be bullshit from Team Melo.

To try to get the Knicks to force something and hurry up is all.

People actually thought the Lakers called Denver and that Denver would accept a injury prone big man who isn't even 24 and can't stay healthy???:lol::lol::lol::lol:

Yet they are asking for teams like the Nets and Knicks to gut their roster????

GTFOH.

That bullshit came from Team Melo trying to force the Knicks hands.

As for Chris Paul it's not happening.

One of the things that the Knicks and other teams are aware. The next CBA will put an end to 3 max contracts on the same team.

So it will just be Melo and Amare unless CP3 is willing to take a huge paycut.

Again the Knicks are playing this smart.

They will get him on their terms

Now what did I say????

Source: 'The Nets Are Out' Of Carmelo Talks

Feb 17, 2011 08:50 AM EST
King_Billy_njn_100715.jpg
Reports have surfaced that the Nuggets and Nets are talking again about a trade to send Carmelo Anthony to New Jersey.
But a source with knowledge of the situation tells Alan Hahn of Newsday that the Nets reemergence is not genuine.
"The Nets are out," the source said.
Hahn writes that the Knicks are not confident that Denver actually knows what it wants from a deal for Anthony and offers his opinion that it is "amateur hour" in the Nuggets' front office.
